As our weekly Peel session rendez-vous enthusiastically enters it's second year of existence the thought came to my mind that the band that defined the post punk spirit of the sessions has been until now absent. So now is a good a time as any to remedy this situation, it also comes about because I'm actively trawling through my Fall collection as in a few weeks I shall find myself confronted by the maverick wordsmith genius, Mark E Smith fronting the latest line up of his garage monsters the Fall in Barcelona. Hard as it may seem to believe this [...]

Von Südenfed = Mouse on Mars meets Mark E. Smith to create Tromatic Reflexxions , out soon on Domino . Me = speechless-smiley-012.gif. Of the two sneak-preview traxx, "Flooded" takes it by a mile; the more rock-oriented "The Rhinohead" probably doesn't stack up against recent Fall, but hey, recent Fall's been pretty great. (Haven't even heard Reformation Post TLC yet, bastards are hard to keep up with.) Makes me want to pull out Infotainment Scan ... Von Südenfed - [...]

I'm tired. I have a strange, disorienting cold type thing in my head. And I generally feel a bit rough. So I fiigure that's a good enough coincidence or reason as any to post this song. Labelled as the 'rough' mix, it's a slightly different version to the opening track from The Fall 's current album 'Reformation Post TLC' . Which as you'd expect from Mark E Smith and his ever changing band is the usual mix of charming, strangely compelling, utterly unsettling and largely idiosyncratic ramblings and musings held together by [...]

by David Klein the Fall - Two Librans Although the world is teeming with "2" songs, I had a hard time pulling the trigger here. "Two of Us" by the Beatles, "It Takes Two" by Rob Base, "Just the Two of Us" by Bill Withers—and songs you love to hate, like "Two Tribes" by Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Blur's "Song 2." There's that blasted U2 again, with "Two Hearts" (Beat As One), the Boss weighs in with "Two Hearts Are Better [...]
This morning I attended an alleged press conference in Manhattan, where LCD Soundsystem 's James Murphy was to "be officially responding to allegations of the assumed LCD Soundsystem backlash". Obviously meant to be a bit of a goof, the event turned out to be more fun than your average press junket roundtable. The event started with Murphy joking that DFA's been preparing for any backlash by compiling embarassing data in advance on perceived possible backlashers for use in case it's needed. Truth of the matter is, there's very little backlash going on, despite Murphy pointing out that [...]
Believe it or not, I sometimes find it hard to actually shop for new music. Since signing up for eMusic 's monthly download plan, I've often kind of found myself at a loss to choose music to get. I've asked fellow blogger for advice on the Elbo.ws forum , checked out other playlists on Last.fm and am constantly searching through Hype Machine 's listings for anything interesting. This month I went to my old [...]

It's kind of a blah week as far as new releases go. I've already covered the most interesting release ( Klaxons' Myths of the Near Future ,) and the rest are just fair to middling. Releases from UK dominate the landscaep: The Fall , Kaiser Chiefs , and the debut from Freddy Mercury fan Mika . One bright spot, however, is a release from Portland's Small Sails . Playlist: New Releases 03.27.07 ------------------------------ ---------------- Album: [...]

Right, Song, by Toad is off to the pub do drink himself into an alcoholic coma. Think of me when you tuck into your Saturday cornflakes, as I will probably be waking up in a gutter somewhere in the seedier parts of town, in a pool of my own effluent, with a partially shaved head and a liver like the contents of a camel's arse. Here are some bloody good tunes for ya. And this week's bender for the weekend is indeed a particularly fine selection if I do say so myself. If you can't [...]

This will be a quick entry since I'm having a busy night. Well it's Sonic Youth covering the Fall and it's awesome. "My New House." One of my favorites off of This Nation's Saving Grace which is generally considered the best Fall album out of their 80 thousand releases. Sonic Youth's version draws out the song a bit and makes it noisier, as expected. Yeah, think Sonic Youth + The Fall. That's what you'll get. The cover comes from a late 80's Peel session where Sonic Youth played entirely Fall covers, as they were John Peels favorite band [...]

He may look 65, but today is Fall frontman Mark E. Smith's 50th birthday. Is there a more important figure in rock who has been around this long that is still making relevant music? I don't think so. In my...
Normally I would say that it's rare that I would have this week's Graboid on a Friday, but lately it seems it's slowly falling later into the week. I mean to have this up yesterday morning, but I happened to wake up feeling really ill and basically just stayed in bed most of the day. I promise next week that i'll have it up on it's intended day, Wednesday. Keep an eye out for it, and if I don't well you can send me some nasty haikus. All I can say about [...]
The Fall - Theme From Sparta FC It's time for more Fall. Being strictly honest, it's always time for more Fall. But I've got to be careful with my stash, you know? There's only 30-odd years of recordings to choose from, and I don't want to deplete my reserves. Plus, if I give you all the good stuff straight away, you'd just listen to it constantly, and never come back here to read me again. Oh yes, you would. Enough unamusing paranoia. Theme From Sparta [...]
Is there anything more perverted than The Fall covering the Beatles? Maybe the Stooges covering the Beatles? Or Pere Ubu covering the Beatles? People having sex with mincemeat? Yes, there are many perversions. Still, I think this is a little bit pretty twisted. So does Mark E. Smith like or hate the Beatles? I, honestly, do not know; I seemed to remember having once seen an interview where he talked about them, but couldn't manage to find it when I searched Google. Although a member at the unofficial Fall site's forum seems to think he hated them [...]

Speaking of The Fall, you should have heard that they have a new album out. Reformation! Post-TLC is already out in the UK, not yet out in the US (the US version is going to be different from the UK). For all of you out there who have no idea who The Fall are, imagine a weird mix of krautrock, rockabilly and post-punk plus a guy called Mark E. Smith, mostly in a very bad mood and making a sort of drunken appearance, more speaking than singing the often mixed-up, insanely poetic lyrics. [...]
