I can't believe that next week is Thanksgiving week. How did that happen? My favorite holiday tends to sneak up on me, and although I spend plenty of time thinking about what I want to make, I always seem to pull together my Thanksgiving menu ideas at the very last minute. While some food bloggers are devoted enough to prepare elaborate Thanksgiving meals weeks prior to the holiday so they can share them with their readers, every year as I eat my turkey, I exclaim, "we need Thanksgiving recipes on Turntable Kitchen!" And yet. I never seem to [...]

Comprehensive in their originality and relentless in their own direction of audio-handles, The Japanese Popstars do what only a few manage to accomplish expertly – and that is to remix a Daft Punk Original into a different and most optimum change of initial direction. TJPs’ ‘Steve Mcqueen’ re-rub is a powerhouse of familiar rollin’ riffs and 4/4 acid thrust which opens a heads down dancin’ vortex of smoky filled rooms and aluminium cladding walls that have sweat embedded in their DNA structure. ‘Pump Power’ is a MARRS endorsed world class teaser - finalized by a slight ‘Matter Of Time’ revival [...]

As fall days go, this one is just about perfect. The sun is sharply bright, the air is clear and it's chilly, around 45˚ chilly, not quite coat weather yet. When I went to get the papers early this morning, I could smell fall. I could smell the fallen leaves and the crispness of the air. Someone had a fire going. I noticed the yellow maple leaves had fallen on the grass in a pattern drawn from a painter's palette. I stood and took in my little bit more of my world then grabbed the papers and went inside to [...]

The Fall, "A Figure Walks"
I woke to a lovely day, warm and sunny. The birds were in full voice, and they drew me to the deck. I watched Gracie sniff the driveway already covered in yellow leaves and pine needles. On the outside branches of the oak tree the leaves have browned. Most will soon fall but some will hang on through the winter fluttering in the cold wind. It is the oak tree I can see best through the window in my den. It is a barometer of the changing seasons. Today is dump day, Gracie's favorite day. I haven't told [...]
Mornings this time of year are chilly but not yet cold. I could easily see Gracie's breath when she was sitting on the top back step surveying her yard. She looked more like a steam engine than a dog. When I went to get the paper, I saw my neighbor, and we chatted a bit. Both of us agreed winter is out least favorite season. When I was a kid, on mornings like today, we used to pretend we were smoking cigarettes and blowing out the smoke. We'd hold the pretend cigarettes in pretend cigarette holders between our [...]

I don't post too much fashion stuff, but this fall drop is too dope to pass up. Akomplice has been holding us down for a minute now, and continues to push the envelope with their socially driven tees. On Friday they will be dropping their Fall 2012 collection via their webstore. The new collection, as you can see above, is pretty extensive featuring hats, hoodies, tees, sweaters, and belts. My favorite is Grimace shitting out hamburgers. Get a closer look here.

We’ve got one EP of all but four songs to go by, and they’re all winners. HOORAY! As dark and disturbing as the tunes can get, there is also a shameless, exaggerated air to [...]

Sea Wolf: Old World Romance - With the release of their new album, Old World Romance , Seal Wolf created the perfect soundtrack to fall. The songs on this album capture the exact feeling of watching the leaves fall, the feeling of endings and beginnings, and the ever-present passage of time. Lead by Alex Brown Church, Lisa Fendelander on keyboards, Theodore Liscinski on bass, Joey Ficken on drums, Nathan Anderson on guitar, and Joyce Lee on cello, are Sea Wolf . Founded in Los Angeles, their indie-folk roots can be [...]

Director Daniel Kragh-Jacobsen did a fantastic job on Rhye's visual for "The Fall". The piano kind of just draws you in from the start. Replay accordingly.
I know Rhye's identity, but I'm not talking. The reason for the anonymity isn't mere self-conceit, it's savvy. Once the faces get revealed, the game will get real. They're slotted as soul, but you won't conflate them with their Innovative Leisure labelmate, Nick Waterhouse. This is pop music, so commercially viable that the recordings from their forthcoming full-length debut reportedly sparked a major label bidding war. Listening to "The Fall" it's easy to understand the clamor. This is commercial music, but unlike most stuff made for the migraine masses, there's an elegance and restraint. As the video infers, [...]

5 Songs is a weekly series where we point out the strange, the grand, and the unique connections between our favorite songs. Let’s get weird. Words by Chris Welcome to a special edition of 5 Songs . I wish these could be more frequent, but you know every time I write one, my strength wanes like Spawn’s cloak (that was today’s I Love the 90’s episode). Because of forces beyond my control, I welcome [...]

It's the mid 90s and Everything Must Go has just been released by the Manic Street Preachers . An album full of Spectorish bombast and tunes for van drivers to whistle, it's light years away from their previous album, the Richey Edwards-enhanced The Holy Bible , an album so difficult to digest in one sitting that Everything Must Go sounded like S Club 7 in comparison. And whilst the hardcore MSP fans point to The Holy Bible as 'the one', the million+ sales and ubiquity of Everything Must Go (despite [...]
The mysterious and gentle pop duo known as Rhye has recently dropped a new single titled "the Fall," and it's a light, danceable, and string-kissed piece of soft-spoken beauty. As moving as it is delicate. Get more music from Rhye on Innovative Leisure . / via /

Living in Los Angeles is a double edged sword. Most of the time you're too busy sifting through the city's pool of passion and culture that you start missing out on what's right in front of you. Lately I've had the pleasure of exploring the seedy streets of LA in a more kaleidoscopic way. This Mixtape was derived from those fresh new feelings along side the taste of fall and things that come with the season. I tried to create this atmospheric feeling of falling completely head over heels for the city, or a person, or whatever mixed in with [...]
Kitsuné never fails to fall for eccentric Scandinavians. This time, it is Danish singer/songwritter Rebecca Molina who make our hearts go boom. An enigmatic character who pens beautiful, highly lyrical and evocative synth pop... as the dreamlike melodies of "Fall Right" testify. Her track "Fall Right" is featured on our upcoming compilation Kistuné Maison 14! [...]

Rhye releases an official clip for their latest single "The Fall." The visual captures a variety of emotions with a couple that fit the track perfectly. Quite sure we've all been there before. EP is available now. Directed by Daniel Kragh-Jacobsen
