Our tendency towards revisiting posts gone by through the lens of new releases and projects is especially apropos this weekend, given the continued recovery efforts in our little torndao-ravaged town. While the rest of us sift through the rubble, let's sift through the archives, taking account of some new and noteworthy works from artists featured previously here on Cover Lay Down. We first featured young started-out-bluegrass band the Farewell Drifters on the release of the hook-heavy Yellow Tag Mondays , their 2010 release; back then, they [...]
Take a look at the new video from The Farewell Drifters for their track, "We Go Together" which features on their newly released album Echo Boom which came out on Tuesday via Heart Squeeze Records/30 Tigers. The video is shot out in an old abandoned rock quarry near Ashland City, just outside Nashville and at the top you can see the results. If you like what you see/hear you may be in luck as they are setting off on a pretty large tour of the US. For full dates of said tour you can head on over [...]

As Kyle wrote yesterday, today is a big day for music releases. One of those is the album Echo Boom by the Farewell Drifters from Nashville, TN. I dig it, and think you should definitely consider getting your hands on this one if you're looking for some good music from some talented guys.

Brian Wright - House on Fire There are two kinds of albums that generally make their way into this space... ones that grab my attention immediately and ones that catch my ear slowly, over time and repeated listens. Brian Wright's House on Fire falls into the latter category. Even once I realized I liked his layered and complex mash of grainy Americana blues, I still wasn't quite sure what to do with it. Is WDVX ready for a song like the [...]

I spent the weekend in Cincinnati watching my Reds retake first place in the NL Central from the St. Louis Cardinals. I was at Saturday's game that featured two home runs from Reds catcher Ramon Hernandez, an outstanding pitching performance from Johnny Cueto, and a three RBI day for Brandon Phillips. It was a great day at the ball park. Now... None of that means anything to most of you other than to say that I was out of town this weekend and didn't have time to work up an in-depth album review of any kind. [...]

The breeze outside is gentle, and the temperature hovers in the low seventies. Our garden is overgrown with tall grasses, I can hear the kids calling breathlessly to each other from the woods behind the house, and the best damn 'grass festival in the Northeast is just two months away. Perfect for an afternoon on the porch with the laptop, a glass of lemonade, and a stack of new and upcoming releases from the broad borders of bluegrass. Nashville-based up-and-comers The Farewell [...]
