Photo by Brandon Belcher God's Balls covered the stage with massive amps, visceral feedback and corn starch blood last Wednesday. Without much delay, the band, comprised of the Earl's line cooks, proceeded to pound ear-grinding powerviolence deep into every existing orifice of every soul listening. The lead singer in his bare black underwear was mashing his body into invisible hordes of hate. I felt like I was witnessing a herd of cattle crossing a pasture of claymores. God's Balls were short, sweet and deadly. No more than a 15-minute set and [...]

Faun And A Pan Flute , a super group jam-packed full of ATL all-stars, released a new two track single this week. It's one of their strongest recordings so far, matching the high level of their already beastly live performances. Give it a listen and then go see them tonight (April 18) at The Earl. sunset dolphin boat ride '98 by faun and a pan flute Faun and a Pan Flute Facebook [...]

Here's a photo of a prepubescent Geoff Barrow thwacking a drumkit that practically engulfs his wiry frame. Whodathunk at the time whoever took said photo (and evidently neglected to employ the camera's redeye reduction feature) that the above kiddo would go on to establish one of Britain's most persistently progressive labels in the imperial guise of Invada and propel perhaps the country's bestest band ? Irregardless, Invada this week released its 2012 sampler and here are our highlights... First up: new one from the [...]

I finally sat down with Faun and a Pan Flute 's latest record, I'm not Prostitute , and I'm really starting to dig it. At first listen, it's mathy and seemingly ambling elements are a bit disorienting, but the more I listen, the more fond I grow of this particular flavour of psych-pop. You can grab the five songs for whatever price you want from Primitive Patterns : Faun and a Pan Flute : "peach is got it / getting a hair cut at 100MPH" [...]

Seriously, guys, what's up with the band name? Faun and a Pan Flute ? That's some straight Renaissance fair type shit right there. If you were opening a crystal shop, I'd be all about it; as it is, I'm not feeling it. But no matter. You've got this EP, I'm Not Prostitute that just came out last Friday, and there's this jam on it called "Vladimir Seizes Lucky's Hat" that has some real inspired moments. Yeah, it's a little disorienting at first, the way that the guitars keep tumbling out of the speakers and the drums and [...]

We recently were made aware of a Nu-Gaze band out of Bristol, The Fauns. The band released their self titled debut album in 2009 on Lazer Ghost Recordings. They are currently embarking on a Scandinavian tour and recording new songs for their follow up album. Give a listen below to a track off their debut album Road Meets The Sky . The Fauns; Road Meets The Sky

I've been super excited since I heard that Deep Space Recordings was planning to release The Fauns debut LP on vinyl. Well, today is the day! Their double LP version is now available in a lovely gatefold sleeve. I've loved this band ever since I heard their song "Lovestruck" (check out the video below), which has a very classic "Brittle Stars" type sound going on. Of course we picked up some copies for the Shelflife shop, so order one below. [...]

I recently read an excellent article extolling the virtues of one of my favorite bands, Lush. The author made the argument that girl-next-door vocals coupled with devastating guitars are indeed not a hokey juxtaposition, but rather create an emotionally devastating effect. That's certainly true with Lush, but even moreso with Bristol upstart The Fauns . Their eponymous record is particularly powerful because their approach to dream pop, as opposed to Lush, is decidedly somber. You don't notice this immediately though, as the entirety of The Fauns provokes a sort of intangible uplifting quality. This is [...]
Dude... last week was shit. We found out that our largest (and rather legendary) independent music retailer, ear X-tacy, might be closing their doors. We also found out that our Six Flags will definitely be closing its doors (miss you wave pool). And to top it all off, I've been trying to quit smoking. Fuck, it's a horrible experience that I don't recommend! If you're a non-smoker, don't start. If you already do, keep the smoke stack churnin' because quitting is psychologically destructive and sucks major dick. I've been having dreams reminiscent of the last five minutes of Eraserhead and [...]

Friday 7th August - The Croft, Bristol Somebody had just been stabbed as we turned the corner to the Croft, a swarm of police littering the curb-side as a wide eyed Deej assured us it wasn't fatal. Inside Charlie was sound checking, looked up from bowing that battered tin and asked if it was loud enough; a resounding yeah came back… [...]
