Over the course of the legendary Syl Johnson's over 50 year career, the Chicago soul singer has amassed a voluminous catalog of some of the soulfulest tunes around. That catalog is getting the Numero Group treatment in the form of the box set, Syl Johnson: Complete Mythology , a four CD, six LP collection that spans the entirety of Johnson's storied career. To celebrate this release Johnson will take the stage at the Old Town School of Folk Music on November 27 and for the first time [...]
A nice overview of a very fertile 18-year period of Jamaican musical history, and a good documentation of the Federal label's contribution to that history. Jamaica - Music - Business and Economy - Canada - Caribbean

United in their school days by an adoration of The Stooges, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Jack White , York, England based garage-rock quartet The Federals comprise scuzzy, fuzzed up guitars, sweeping art-rock drones and an underlying punk ethos that (rather than resulting in unpleasant audible barrages), greets listeners with snarling, yet alluringly melodic blues vocals and song writing that would make many bands their elder jealous. Fronted by the engaging, born-for-this Jim Feakes , The Federals have already had much recognition from established media with [...]
The Federals have made all four songs from their self-titled EP available as free, 100% legal mp3s on Last.fm. Their sound is hyper British garage rock similar to The Vines, The Strokes, and other "The" bands. The Federals - Free EP Download (click for download page) The Federals MySpace

I have not experienced the feelings of truly being wowed by a band for a while. It's nearly 5 AM but I have not gone to bed because I have spent the last hour digging up all the information that I can on The Federals . They are one of the best young bands that I have heard so far this year, and I am blown away. I noticed them thanks to Tim from The Blue Walrus . They are the British band that the NME should be pushing. These guys are miles better than most of the [...]

After a year in which folk and electropop ruled the roost it is about time that growling, thrashy rock and roll stuck its head above the pulpit again - and The Federals are here to do just that. Swaggering their way from York, and naming their influences as The Stooges, the White Stripes and BRMC - this four piece provide the snarling vocals, destroyed guitars, and moshable rhythms that should make you stand up and take notice. Violent, unruly and just what the music world needs at the moment - a great big fuck you to [...]

It's been a while since we had time to compile the best songs that have crossed our path recently. You'll find that we've added links to purchase some of the songs through iTunes. When that wasn't possible, we've given you the link to the band's myspace page. We're going to pass on describing the songs this time. Go in with an open mind and know that we're challenging you with the best music we could find. Grand Analog Electric City (Feat. Shad) [...]

So I pulled out this E.P. from our inbox over a week ago now and ever since it's been burning a hole in my itunes (and my ears). I first posted about The Federals here a couple of months back. Since then I've been in regular contact with their manager who has been supplying us with some tasty exclusives. And this E.P. is no exception. The first track, 'Get Out' is on the previous post, so I'm gonna concentrate on the other 3 tunes in the E.P. Supplying you guys with only one of them is a tough [...]

The manager of The Federals sent me this cheeky little 320kps bootleg of Dizzee Rascals 'Fix Up'. It was a pleasant surprise - often bootlegs can be a bit tedious but this is quite a good effort. Whilst it's undoubtedly electro, it takes a slightly techy route that'll get the dancefloor warmed up nicely. It's not a banger, more of a plodder. See what you think... Mr Ellington - Fix up '09 (Dizzee Rascal Edit) You heard it here first... [...]
My new favorite rock n' roll band. Emerging from York, The Federals bring a vitality, urgency & immediacy to the music scene. Fast & furious, these 4 angry youths are putting the rage... ** This is a content summary only. Visit the website for downloads, videos, & more! **

PLANT MUSIC just released TITTSWORTH 's latest single, "Drunk As F*ck" featuring remixes by DJ Craze, Top Billin', Stretch Armstrong, and METERHEAD. To be expected, this track has its sights on becoming the party tune of the summer. METERHEAD bounce their disco blend pretty close to that target and TOP BILLIN' get things a bit more sweaty after a complete bass workout. MP3: Tittsworth feat. The Federation - Drunk As Fuck (METERHEAD [...]

This one caught me by surprise. Stresmatic, the dude from The Federation who threatened to put a hole in your head the size of a Susan B. Anthony, is rapping over a strumming guitar about having a fridge full of Mad Dog 20/20 and "a little fried bologna, two syrup sandwiches and pizza by Tony." The first leak off his upcoming solo project under the name 1st Place, "Be'N Broke Sucks" wins with humor and relatability. Always slick with the pen Stres covers the frantic lows, humility, dreaming and scheming everyone endures [...]

Our livers are aching and our feet hurt from 5 days at WMC in Miami and now we're back in grey, rainy Sweden.
