Photo by Michael Piantigini.] Twenty aught-eleven was one of those star-aligning years that gifted me with tons of music I like - This year's list is admittedly pretty heavy on my wheelhouse veterans, but how lucky to still get such strong stuff from bands like Buffalo Tom , Five Eight , and the friggin' Feelies ! Having taken to heart The Long Winters ' John Roderick's admonitions on top 10 lists (and let's hope he gets that [...]

There is no scientific methodology to picking the best of album of 2011. Every year it does not seem like any good music is on the horizon then the music that matters start to tickle our ears. We go with the gut check versus a pedantic drivel as our motto around here. Sometime music is able to surprise you on first listen -sometimes second but if it does nothing after third pass we just move on along. Other times you respect a few words someone else says and you suddenly see the light. These are the various reasons we [...]
We go back in time for this lost gem. Its sounds are vaguely recognizable as pop, but as the kind of pop somehow reconfigured from secondhand rumors, hazy and jagged reminiscences. Songs constructed from the rusty shards from the broken down chassis that litter the front lawn of alt-rock's trailer home.

Big Dipper North East rock was never so eloquently defined than by the alternative music vehicle known as Big Dipper . I meant this to be a follow-up post on the music from City Gardens Riot on the Dance Floor post but needless to say when a group makes a melodic dent like these guys did it's worth one of my retro-posts because a lot of the submissions I'm getting just don't rank. This is though one of those bands I trekked down to Trenton to see opening up [...]
The title of The Feelies new album—Here Before—says it all. Or does it? Situated somewhere between Crazy Rhythm's nervousness and The Good Earth's pastoral soundscapes, Here Before is a grab bag of mild anxiety, resignation and transcendence. Call it The Feelies in a suburban mode, but the kind of suburbia David Lynch showed us in his epic film Blue Velvet. Like characters in an Updike novel, surrounded by mortality and issues with their septic tanks, the band that can soundly lay claim to their rightful title as the godfathers of "college [...]

![[Interview] The Feelies](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3584862_lg.jpg)
Tweet By Conor Devlin I first heard The Feelies sometime in 1988 when their version of the Velvet Underground's 'What Goes On' came on Irish radio on a summer afternoon. There was a sense of fun there that didn't exist on the original and, true to form, I went to the record store that weekend and bought three albums, one new and two used: 'Crazy Rhythms' (Stiff, 1980), 'The Good Earth' (Coyote, 1986) and 'Only Life' [...]

Nice weather is right around the corner. Know how I know? 'Cause so many bands are loading up their tour buses and vans and hitting the road. To which I say woo hoo! Some are doing club shows, others are gearing up larger venues including festivals (Hello Coachella and Sasquatch!), and there's something for everyone. Hopefully this list will inspire you to get off your couch and check out some of these bands live. We all need a little rock n' roll to make us feel good. If you have additions to the list [...]

No doubt The Feelies are one of the greatest and most influential acts to survive the 1980s. Having inspired acts from the '80s rebels R.E.M. to '90s indie pride Pavement , The Feelies have paved the way for some of the best college rock and indie rock artists of all time. Since their official reunion back in 2008, they've released four albums including Crazy Rhythms , which has been voted 49 of the top 100 albums of the 1980s by Rolling Stone [...]

Last Friday night, Celebrate Brooklyn began a summer of music and art at Brooklyn's Prospect Park Bandshell with a show from the magical and mysterious Andrew Bird . For the most part, the evening was a huge success. The music was great, the accommodations were great, the sound was even great. That is, if you made it into the amphitheater. If you plan on seeing any music at Prospect Park this summer, I highly suggest you read the following list of suggestions. They will [...]
