It was back in July that I told you the man called Peasant had just finished recording his Paper Garden debut record, On the Ground . Well it us finally here, and even more beautiful then I could have imagined. Damien DeRose is from Doylestown, PA, and he has the ability allow all of his experience, passion, and heart to slowly and softly drift through speakers and into open minds. Listen to : Those Days ( mp3 ) As a young boy I [...]
a faulty chromosome Genre: Indie / Shoegaze / New Wave From: Austin, Texas United States Press releases are usually a mind numbing bio of the band and a collection of enthusisatic press comments. However sometimes, rarely, the press release is so wll written and so unbelievably accurate that it puts the feeble warblings of the Devil's usual prose to shame. On those [...]

A few weeks ago I posted the good news the The Feelies Crazy Rhythms was going to be reissued by a label called Water Records on February 5th. My friend Dan noted in the comments that the reissue never materialized on that date, and the release is no longer listed at Amazon. I've done a little homework to see what's going on here. In short, I fear the worst. A few e-commerce sites have the reissue listed as delayed until mid-March. I hope that's the case. But I should point out that the website of the distributor/manufacturer for [...]

I'm in the middle of writing a paper and studying for finals, but I'll be damned if I'm not going to meet my deadline here. Get ready for it, y'all, because I'm just going to be puking music all over you tonight. Thanks to everyone who offered kind words, donations and bids on my Ebay auctions. I'm going to try and post a few more things next week after my tests are over. My auctions went incredibly well. . . just over $400 for about 18 items. That should definitely help. Anyway, enough about me. [...]

I know absolutely nothing about The Feelies except I have a 123 record with the song "Paint It Black" on it and it's fantastic. Here's a little info I got about them from Wikipedia: The Feelies were a rock band from Haledon, New Jersey. They formed in 1976 and disbanded in 1992. They frequently played at Maxwell's, a live music venue and bar restaurant in Hoboken in the 1980s. Their first album, Crazy Rhythms (Stiff Records, 1980) was cited by R.E.M. as a major influence. The Feelies rarely worked with outside producers and created [...]

Dorks playing and inventing jangle-pop faster than a teenager pops a boner! The Feelies formed in Hoboken, New Jersey in 1976. Their happy go-lucky single "Fa Ci-La" (download it below!) was released on Rough Trade. This post has: 2 MP3's

Was there ever a time when the Velvet Underground was unappreciated? Of course. Certainly during the period when they actually existed. I'm sure that, outside New York, Los Angeles and Boston, they were booed as much, if not more, than they were applauded. I personally remember having to lock the door of the dj booth in college when I played "Sister Ray," because the program director wanted to come in and turn it off. But somewhere along the line, the boos turned into cheers, Lou Reed had a hit single, a million bands claimed the Velvets as an influence, a [...]

MP3 : The Feelies - Extracts From "Crazy Rhythms" (4:52) To promote their release of the first Feelies album, "Crazy Rhythms," in 1980, Stiff Records issues this flexidisc of an extended medley crafted from excerpts of a few of the album's key tracks. Shortly thereafter the "Stars On 45" phenomenon began. Coincidence, or idea thievery? We think not. - Contributed by: Phil X Milstein Images : Cover Sleeve With Label , Label
Hey, um, yeah, Republican folk...how's that 'deck of 52' search comin'? You guys still workin' on that? I think you missed a couple, right behind Ron & Nicole's real killer.

The weekly Throwback Thursday usually hits on Thursday but with vacation and business travel my schedule has been a little crazy. So, now that I'm settled back at SVB world headquarters, I figured I'd bust out Throwback Thursday v.4 - and this time around we focus on 1980 Truth is, 1980 actually began in 1977/78. Corporate rock ruled. Disco was dead. The Clash, The Heads and punk kept us honest and hopeful. Prince was on his way to breaking out. Kurtis Blow (above) rocked us with "The Breaks," Rush scored a [...]

I spent a fair amount of my college career (when I wasn’t drinking beer) with my nose buried in various fanzines and music mags. It was the early nineties and the “alterna-boom†had just exploded, with many veteran musicians of the punk, post-punk scene gaining both a bit of acclaim and notoriety for the first time that resulted in many feature spreads and interviews. It was usually through these bits of required reading that the names of lesser-known, American groups were dropped in an effort to “spread the good-will†amongst the scene. [...]

This week SVB opens up the vaults for some of the lost classics - the buried treasures of music. Today it's The Feelies, 5ive Style and Moose.
