Pitchfork's history of supporting good music is undeniable, and every year their festival in Chicago reflects that. This year's Pitchfork Music Festival was as exciting as ever, bringing together a diverse group of artists like Grimes, Purity Ring, Beach House, Danny Brown, Kendrcik Lamar, A$AP Rocky, Youth Lagoon, Willis Earl Beal, and countless others. Seeing the festival live was as good as expected, but if you missed it, here's a look at what went down. Start planning next year's trip to Chicago now. [...]

The latest in Adult Swim's series of 12 free MP3s over the course of the summer comes from Swedish microsample hypnotist The Field, aka Axel Willner. It's title is "Comenius Garden," named after the 17th Century Bohemian educationalist Johann Amos Comenius, and his symbolic and representational art gardens. As for the connection between these horticultural projects and hazed-out, thumping minimal techno/trance music, I cannot say, aside from it is all good, and you should grab it: Read More...

It's only been ten months since the last Field Day in Victoria Park (brought forward due to the Olympics for 2012) and Eat Your Own Ears big day out is still as diverse as the weather plays out today. I headed in just before 1pm, with no issue. I caught Com Truise as my first act of the day. Apart from the relentless spins of his full length Galactic Melt, I had no background of anything about Seth Haley. His early time on the Bleed stage did nothing to stop a healthy [...]

Enjoy. ♩ Unknown Mortal Orchestra - I'll Come Back 4 U

The highly justifiable 'Looping State Of Mind' record from Axel Willner's The Field will get the remix treatment and a release later this month in EP form on Kompakt. New versions for the understandably titled 'Looping Minds Remixe' will be crafted by Canadian duo Junior Boys - who return from an extended hiatus, Brooklyn's Blondes and the new side project of prolific German producer Wolfgang Voigt as Mohn . The record found itself on many 'top' electronic lists of 2011 for its steady and progressive manner and is still a constant [...]

Date : Saturday 2nd June Venue : Victoria Park, Hackney Eat Your Own Ears East London takeover starts, unusually, two months earlier this year with Field Day taking up the Saturday followed by the little-sister Apple Cart on the Sunday. Field Day embraces all things along the line of post punk/post rock/glitchy electronics. Generally a celebration of all the ranges of shows Eat Your Own Ears puts on throughout the year. Well done them. I'm looking forward to Double [...]

The latest edition of BBC Radio 12s Essential Mix series is quite an expansive affair. Composed by the American-Chilean minimalist DJ/producer Nicolas Jaar , this adventurous mix spans across a wide range of the musical spectrum. A quick skim of the tracklist will reveal that Jaar is very open-minded when it comes to music. Everything from hip-hop ( Jay-Z ) to film scores ( Jonny Greenwood ) to gospel ( Lashun Pace ) to folk ( Feist , Bill Callahan ) to Top 40 pop ( NSYNC !?) are present in the mix. On paper, Nico's set appears [...]

When it comes to the progressive ingenuity of yesteryear few records could even conceive of doing battle with Gloss Drop : an explorational work of avant-garde invention, it saw the streamlined New York outfit punch well above their weight. It is and was their opus, and it remains revolutionary. This time however, although it may again be Battles' name on Dross Glop (the droll epithet attached to this collection of radical overhauls) and even if their madcap freeform fingerprints may be smeared indelibly all over it they've handed the gloves over to [...]

Imagine laying on a beach late in March, when you start to enjoy the awakening nature around you. Staring at the horizon of the sea, your rosy cheeks are gently cut by a chilly wind and your mind flies away to somewhere else... The Edge of the Firelight , the first full-length record from Rough Fields , would be perfect for this atmosphere. James Birchall creates his music by using found objects, broken instruments, environmental sounds, sonic defects and thick, layered textures - to stunning effect. Antonella Azzollini talked with James about [...]
It's a point of fact right now that we've reached some sort of internet remix saturation point. It's like not a single song can exist without a selection of alternate interpretations. In the right hands, ... read more

Really nice track that TOKiMONSTA made a while back with vocalist Rucyl that they both 'decided that this track would be great to share', and you can even download it here . Was talking to J about Toki a few weeks back after she dropped the Darkest Dim video and we both agree she's on that classic Nujabes vibe. A real personal favourite thats for sure.First I've heard of Rucyl though, I'll be sure to find out a bit more. Her website seems to indicate shes real cool. [...]

I hadn't checked in with Ritmo Sportivo since before christmas, so apologies for the overdueness of the post. They are a mega-fresh label though, one I really respect similar to Project: Mooncircle; quite left field but definately in the realms of Hip Hop with mad soul, forward thinking, original. After 2 years in the game and after 12 different releases, Ritmo Sportivo collective proudly presents for you this free compilation. Initially started like community & platform for enthusiasts and black music lovers, at this moment we have grown up to the record label and team of [...]
