Inside Pop - The Rock Revolution is a CBS News special, broadcast in April 1967. The show was hosted by Leonard Bernstein and is probably one of the first examples of pop music being examined as a "serious" art form. The film features many scenes shot in Los Angeles in late 1966, including interviews with Frank Zappa and Graham Nash, as well as a now legendary Brian Wilson solo performance of "Surf's Up."
Paramount Pictures ha confirmado la participación de la banda británica y ganadora del Grammy en la película “WORLD WAR Z.”
Ludacris sums up Fast & Furious 6 rather perfectly when his character says, “we’re talking vehicular warfare.” Expecting anything less (or more) from a fifth sequel in an action franchise would be knuckle-headed. At this point, the Fast & Furious franchise has all but given up on the sense of wonder and emotional release the first [...] The post Film Review: Fast & Furious 6 appeared first on Spinning Platters .

One of my colleagues screened The Act of Killing at SXSW this past March and tried his best to share the experience with me; of course, no matter how he tried, I just didn't understand what he was trying to share with me. This is not due to his inability to explain the documentary, but rather, the documentary itself is not the type of doc we've ever seen. The Act of Killing , focused on the Indonesian massacre during the late '60s, took an experimental direction in its explanation of the near-genocide. The filmmakers not only interviewed some of [...]
It’s Friday morning, and you’re turning to your significant other saying, “Let’s go to the movies tonight…. What should we see?” You scroll through Fandango or skim through the Chronicle Datebook listings (okay, maybe that’s just me…) and ask, “What about this film about these two flawed people involved in a bitter custody fight over [...] The post Film Review: What Maisie Knew appeared first on Spinning Platters .
Today we wish Bob Dylan a very happy 72nd birthday with this presentation of a terrific 2012 doc called Bob Dylan and The Band - Down In The Flood.

Thoughts on Films Movie Review by Max Bowen In the 12th chapter of the Star Trek franchise, we boldly go…. to where we've already been before. This movie brings back the main villain from Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan , though the story is all new and while some aspects [...]
Naming a film Epic is asking for a lot, especially when it’s based on a children’s book of a different and less demanding title, “The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs” by William Joyce. Mirriam-Webster defines 'epic' as “extending beyond the usual or ordinary especially in size or scope.” To focus Epic on inherently [...] The post Film Review: Epic appeared first on Spinning Platters .

![[RH Review] Fast & Furious 6](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4967563_lg.jpg)
The Fast and the Furious franchise has been experiencing a bit of a rebirth since Fast & Furious was released in 2009. Directed by Justin Lin, Fast & Furious tied together to the first film of the franchise, The Fast and the Furious , and established a continuity for the next sequels to follow. 20112s Fast Five brought an injection to the franchise that Fast & Furious lacked, bringing in newcomer Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as a formidable opposite to franchise star Vin Diesel. With a tighter narrative that slowly moved away from the street racing it was [...]

One of the most ridiculous moments in "The Amazing Spider-Man," a film riddled with ridiculousness, is when Peter Parker, played by soft-spoken heartthrob Andrew Garfield, gets in trouble for dunking too hard . Instead of being encouraged to pursue his athletic prowess, the backboard shattering high schooler gets suspended. It may have been something to spur progress in the plot, but, then again, that film had something like five half-baked plots that never resolved. So who knows. Apparently Spider-Man is still into basketball, as he took a break in filming to play around with a couple kids in Chinatown, [...]
The conflict between robots and human emotions isn't new in fiction; decades of various art forms have touched on whether robots could ever have the capacity to understand free thought and emotions, with the capacity of love being a huge aspect. While sometimes the concept can grow long in the tooth in feature-length films, short films tend to be the perfect medium for the topic. Those who are familiar with my alter ego's film writing know exactly how much I love the short film form. So much more attention is given to every scene where each detail builds towards [...]
![[Trailer] Maniac](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4966948_lg.jpg)
Maniac screened at last year's Chicago International Film Festival, and I've been kicking myself since October for missing it. Starring Elijah Wood ( The Lord of the Rings ), the Franck Khalfoun-directed film is shot mostly in first-person, adding an extra layer of authenticity to the horror film. While most horror films are typically shot and narratively-focused on the victims, Maniac 's first-person twist seems like the kind of twist needed for a genre that's been over-saturated lately with zombies and serial killers. Don't get me wrong, though; Maniac is still about a serial killer, but coming from his [...]
![[Trailer] We’re the Millers](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4966802_lg.jpg)
The majority of comedy films tend to follow plot formulas involving a mild-mannered character stumbling across a problem that goes through a series of outlandish challenges to take care of the problem while discovering something new or life-changing about himself along the way. Broken down like that, it seems kind of plain, doesn't it? What writers and directors have been doing is elevating the absurdity surrounding these characters and their obstacles. Sometimes, it works out; most of the time, it doesn't. We're the Millers , based on the first trailer below, seems like it could go [...]
One of the most remarkable aspects of Fitzgerald’s 1925 novel The Great Gatsby is its prescience. With its focus on wealth and excess, it foreshadowed the Great Depression of the 1930s – themes that resonate with today’s economic climate, idolising of narcissistic wealth and celebrity-obsessed culture. It’s perhaps due to these parallels that Luhrmann has decided now is the time for a big screen adaptation of the novel. The Great Gatsby bares all the hallmarks of a Luhrmann film. Sweeping camera shots fly over cityscapes with dizzying effect; each frame [...]
![[Trailer] Iceman 3D](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4966640_lg.jpg)
A friend of mine turned to Twitter recently to share his praise about Dragon . With nothing to do, I decided to watch the film per his suggestion. Unbeknownst to me, the film starred Donnie Yen, most known for his roles in Ip Man and Ip Man 2 , two films fictionalizing the life of Wing Chun grandmaster (and Bruce Lee 's mentor), Yip Man. Since Ip Man was released in 2008, Yen has found himself becoming Hong Kong's "it" man, and with good reason. The upcoming Iceman 3D , a remake of 20082s [...]

People are doing traditional-style reviews all over the web, so we decided to try something different. In each “breakdown” we’ll take a look at what a film’s marketing lead us to believe, how the movie actually played, and then what we learned from it all. Read on! The Impression: 18 years ago Richard Linklater teamed up with Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy for a beloved little film called Before Sunrise . In 2004 the trio rejoined for the sequel, Before Sunset , and now [...]
