If you're only aware of their monster hits such as "Red Skies," "Saved by Zero" or "One Thing Leads to Another," I encourage you to check out their deep cuts as well as their more recent material such as 20122s "Beautiful Friction," which features the classic line up of The [...]
HD Video by G. On April 7, 2013, The Fixx played the Bell House in Brooklyn . The final encore was one of my favorite tracks from the 1980s, "Secret Separation." Towards the end of the song, lead singer Cy Curnin threw in a few lines from Tina Turner's classic "Better Be Good To Me" and if you'll recall, Cy makes a cameo in that music video. Enjoy "Secret Separation!" [...]

Photos by G. Cy Curnin and Jamie West-Oram of The Fixx One of my 1980s fanboy dreams came true on April 7, 2013 when I saw The Fixx perform at The Bell House in Brooklyn. The 80s new wave/rockers have a new album out called "Beautiful Friction," and the classic lineup has reunited for this tour. Over the course of the hour and a half set, a majority of tracks from the new album were played and if you haven't really followed The Fixx [...]

Debonair New Wave Londoners The Fixx once pouted of one thing leading to another, and in newly discovering Perth four-piece Braves just moments ago we're brought bang up to Sunny – an Aussie duo who just so happen to share a member in Sean. Though it's a discovery that's bittersweet in both name and nature, for Sunny acutely snare the sounds and blithe sensations of summer – that which is spent lolling about at Barcelona's exemplary Primavera Sound . And having made it to Dinosaur Jr. just last night, that's something which couldn't [...]

Watching T-Box on reality TV struggling to re-spark a solo career that should have happened a lifetime and a half ago might be a depressing sight to behold...but, at least, we got the old TLC hits to revisit to keep our mood up. One of those timeless smashes, mid-902s chart-topper "Creep", is re-awoken under the palms of Canadian production wiz Kaytranada , who swipes the a capella from the original's Jermaine Dupri-produced remix and injects the throwback mutual infidelity anthem with a darker sensuality thanks to a bassline-led, late night hip hop-soul bump (and slyly [...]

Sunday night, or "New Year's Eve eve": ► Ludacris and Kelly Rowland do a "pre-New Year's Eve" party at Club Nokia. ► The Aggrolites bring their "dirty reggae" to Saint Rocke in Hermosa Beach, where they'll be joined by the Expanders and the Delirians. ► The Fixx , now into their fourth decade and just having released their 10th album (and first in eight years) "Beautiful Friction," headline the Roxy Theatre, supported by Yellow Payges and Dance Hall Pimps. ► Day 2 of FMLY Fest [...]

Incoming: Reverend Horton Heat, Social Distortion, Jane Monheit, Jeffertitti's Nile, GRMLN, Donavon Frankenreiter, the Growlers, Fishbone, Erykah Badu, Father John Misty, Wanda Jackson, Peter Murphy, FMLY Fest, the Aggrolites, Wolfgang Gartner, Ludacris, the Fixx Above: So Many Wizards [ see of tops-in-L.A. albums list ] are one of about 50 artists playing this weekend's FMLY Fest at two downtown locations. The festival, thrown by the "D.I.T." (do-it-together) FMY collective , features music, visual art, workshops and more. That's So Many Wizards' video for "I [...]

"The more I see, the more I fall" Most people know The Fixx for their one big hit in the US, One Thing Leads To Another . While that track undeniably earns its "hit" status, it's never been one of my favorite 80's songs. I much prefer this track, which I first discovered as part of the soundtrack to the awesome 80's cult movie, Streets Of Fire . To me, it sounds nothing like One Thing . Instead, it's got a real aggressive, beat-heavy sound. When I heard it the first time, I [...]

The Fixx performed "Anyone Else", "Red Skies" and "One Thing Leads To Another" on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Watch it all below: ...
Kids, the 80s was a weird time. Boys were wearing makeup, girls had big hair and padded shoulders, everyone was putting powder up their nose, and computers, while a far cry from the dubstep phenomenon of today, were being used in recording for the first time. Bands like Joy Division, Depeche Mode, and New Order became popular for their somewhat melancholy take on life in England in the late 70s and early 80s. And they were hugely popular. The Fixx has a history spanning over 3 decades, and they return this week with their original lineup [...]
As my formative years in music came in the late 702s and early 802s, this era is important to me. Unlike many in my age group however, I didn't stop searching at that point. That said, this is a big part of my musical development. So I thought I'd find a few examples of what I liked from that period. I have hazy childhood memories of mid-level MTV hits from The Fixx. For some reason, I spent a lot of time wondering about that second "x" in the name. Seemed designed to make them appear extra intense, which I suppose New Wave often wants to be. Years later, I was surprised to find myself really enjoying the stainless steel pop of their Reach The Beach album. Worth checking out, although there is the headscratcher of why they bothered employing the world's most indistinct and boring drummer when cheaper machines were very much available. [...]

The Fixx back in the day With all the bands aping the '80s synth sound, here's a little bit of the real thing. Moody new wavers The Fixx will release their tenth studio album, Beautiful Friction , on July 17. It was made with the line-up that gave us hits "Red Skies," "One Thing Leads to Another," and "Saved by Zero." The band are playing a few shows this summer, including Sunday, June 10 at Knitting Factory and [...]

The Fixx "Anyone Else" - The Fixx The Fixx , the first band I ever saw live, is playing a show at the Knitting Factory Brooklyn on June 10, 2012 ( Buy Tickets ). According to Wikipedia , the current iteration of the band features the classic lineup with Jamie West-Oram on guitar, Rupert Greenall on keyboards, Adam Woods on drums and Dan K. Brown on bass. The Fixx even have a new album coming [...]

Rare daytime post! Art Of Noise Art Of Love (Extended Mix) Ambience Of Love Heart Of Love So how the hell didn't I know about this? In 1990, Art Of Noise released "The Ambient Collection." As its name suggests, it is a collection of Art Of Noise tunes reworked as a continuous ambient mix. That alone sounds pretty rad. What makes it even more rad (I'm totally bringing "rad" back, by the way) is that the [...]

I first posted this album eons ago, and it sounded like complete dogshit. In my ongoing effort to redeem myself for my ceramic needle USB-turntable early days, here it is again, re-recorded with decent equipment. Live Letters - Bands Featured Live at the 101 Club This is a very interesting record, and I wish I knew more about the people who made it. Apparently the 101 Club was a venue in South London in the early 80s, but I don't know for how [...]
Although SF Sketchfest begins this week, there is still plenty of music in the city this weekend, too! It's time to get your ear plugs warmed up - mostly cause it's really cold out - and get moving! Thursday, January 19th Katy B, The Good Natured, Takashi Miyaki at Rickshaw Stop (Popscene) This UK sensation [...]
The Fixx : The Fool [ purchase ] I'm not at all familiar with the Tarot or the various meanings of its cards. Let's just say everything I know about it I learned from Wikipedia , the blogger's friend. I know more about the British band The Fixx, though, 'cuz they're one of my favorite 80s New Wave groups. They've always shown more complexity in their melodies and lyrics than most bands of the time. This song is from their first album, [...]
