There I was, all set to blog about Top Chef last night and how Lorraine Bracco has massive cans, which made me miss the love of my life Gail Simmons even more than having Anthony Bourdain there instead of Gail. Oh Gail, I miss your fucking rack so much. Please return to my television set next week. I need some new masturbation fodder! There I was, all set to blog about Top Chef last night, and then someone else on Facebook mentioned how sad they were that the White Stripes have called [...]
What are we going to see at this screening that no one has ever seen before? I have some things I've never shown before—for example, Suburban Lawns. They were from the Western Front festival. You have to understand that some of these don't have the best audio quality because in those days we were working with [...]
Joe Rees' Target Video filmed hundreds of hours of video footage of about every punk band that pushed through San Francisco as the '70s turned into the '80s, including such ultimate artifacts as the Cramps live at the Napa State mental hospital and Crime live at San Quentin . He will present never-before-seen clips of punk bands from all over America tonight at Cinefamily . This interview by Chris Ziegler.
These songs are all from a book that you *must* pick up if you are a lover of old eclectic music. Lost in the Grooves was published in 2005 and edited by Kim Cooper and David Smay, from Scram and Bubblegum Music Is the Naked Truth magazines, respectively. Cooper and Smay are both recreational crate-diggers and what I love about the book is its infectious non-snooty treasure hunt approach to reviewing. Each pick "too quirky, distinctive or demented to [...]
From the pages of Mystery in Space #5 (December 1951-January 1952) comes this prescient glimpse into mankind's glorious future...as made possible by the unmatched killing power of the S-64 Disintegrator Gun: ...and by "Earth," we mean "America." Thus S'less'thar, revered shaman and a cephalapod of peace, passed from this world. The rest of the I'lloni tribe had little time to mourn his passing, as they sooned joined him in radioactive oblivion. A [...]

1985's Return Of The Living Dead impressed me, mostly for two reasons: it was a smartass zombie flick released when smartass horror films were rare and eerie things, and it had a great soundtrack. During the 80s, both major and minor corporations were still reluctant to touch anything that remotely resembled 'punk rock,' even with the largest safety pin. Still, Return Of The Living Dead , a film presumably marketed to the same teenaged audience listening to stale Foreigner and Bob Seger records (keep in mind, this was before Bon Jovi hit it [...]
Does it matter if it's a first press or not? To some it does. This is the first press which you can tell by the labels being white instead of yellow as on the second press, pressed up in the... Punk | Powerpop | Mod | Hard Core
I watched the latest episode of Showtime's Masters of Horror anthology series last night, and what promised to be an interesting premise ended up only confirming that the show has lost its way and whatever uneven charm the first season of the show promised. There have been a couple decent episodes this season. John Landis did a fine job with the darkly comic serial killer story, "Family," and Joe Dante's "The Screwfly Solution" was a interesting failure buoyed by the strength of its disturbing premise, a mysterious plague that induces violent behavior towards women. It also [...]
Wow, if you've come around here lately you've probably noticed a slow site if it even loaded at all. Server problems have plagued me for a few days, postponing any actual entries to the site. Thanks for hanging in there. My new stylus arrived today so side two from the Delinquents album will be appearing soon for those who wanted the rest. I was going to post this the other day but couldn't, and seeing as it's almost 12:30am and I'm getting up in 5 or so hours this will be a [...]
