Some cerebral and subtle techno coming from Russian producer Unbalance on this new song, which is the title track to his latest EP on Mutex Recordings. It's a bit formulaic, but "Fluid" still features some really nice builds and breaks. The stuttering synths are nice touch, too; adding a classy polyrhythm over the 4/4 beat. Enjoy! / via /

OH YEAH I'm a couple of days late but on Monday night, Diplo and the boys from Mad Decent threw a banger at Fluid nightclub in Philadelphia. It was my first time at the venue and seeing Mad Decent live but it did not dissapoint. The crowd was awesome, banging beats, beautiful people and one of the best mondays I've had in a while. I got to shake hands with DJ Sega which was pretty dope. I included a link to his best of 2010 mix which will give you about twenty minutes of wu-tang action. [...]

If you're in Philadelphia tomorrow, be sure to catch the legendary Morgan Geist at Fluid, courtesy of The Magic Message. Click here for more info about the party. Here's a little about Morgan for those who don't know... This New Jersey native was initially inspired by England's take on the sound of Detroit, but eventually tracked techno back to its Motor City innovators. When he began listening to music, however, it was the sound of early-'80s synth heroes like Devo, Severed Heads and New Order alongside early hip-hop, jazz [...]

It is general consensus that grunge has been dead for some time now; the advent of so-called "post grunge" being the primary evidence, alongside Chris Cornell's collaboration with Timbaland and the oft-noted deaths of Kurt Cobain and - for all of those old school purists - Andrew Wood. All things considered, the scene that was spawned from something of an anti-scene in the '80s is about as dead as some claim punk has been since post '94. The fans of grunge still hearken back, even as they age and opt to put trash in the can instead of kicking it. [...]
In a moment of cutting journalistic integrity, Angora Holly Polo suddenly spewed forth factual information from said music fest so as to enlighten the general truthiness of the universe. Here are twelve things, prioritized by coolness, which probably happened at the Westword Music Festival this last Saturday: 12.) Ethan, lead singer of Gangcharger, kept getting electrocuted in the mouth during his set at Sutra. Somehow the mic kept sneakily sending jolts of electricity into his face while he continued to rock in legendary fashion, without Angora Holly Polo's even observing the [...]

The Golden Triangle sounds like a mystic land of enigma from which no one returns, but it's actually the area of Denver that the 15th annual Westword Music Showcase will overrun Saturday with 85+ ace bands, both local and national. On Saturday, come peruse ten stages of goodness with me; we'll see local bands worth vigorously loving like Everything Absent or Distorted , Young Coyotes and Houses , as well as influential Denver punk pioneers [...]
I've been waiting to see The Fluid again since seeing them at SP20 last summer. They're better than ever after a 15 year hiatus, and on Friday treated those of us lucky enough to be at Neumo's to a great rowdy set. read more

This past Saturday saw not one but two band practices with different (as the kids say) projects. Considering my lack of musical ability, the concept of lil' ol' me participating with two different r 'n' r concerns is astounding and something I am truly thankful for. It sure beat shoveling snow! The first of these musical behemoths is the imminent return of the legendary old skool punk DIRTY PILLOWS ! Yep, we put the band back together and will be playing this Wednesday, January 28 [...]
"The show is the show." -- Tom, issuing an important reminder amidst conflicting priorities "The H-Man. Looks like I'm going to have to train him!" -- Spike, booking Tom's protégée for an appointment in the dungeon "She doesn't hate men, she's just an idiot." -- Spike, refusing to support Katie Couric as Barack Obama's Vice-Presidential running mate "What is this, Meatballs ? Suddenly I'm Morty? Next day I'll find myself asleep out on a bed in the middle of the lake. I'm not Morty." [...]

In Denver, Colorado in 1985, two ex-members of the punk band Frantix formed the band Madhouse with friends. The Frantix are mostly known for their 1983 single "My Dad's a Fucking Alcoholic," a song which made it on to a few Killed By Death type of comps. In July of 1985, John Robinson, who had moved to Denver from Texas, joined the band as their singer. The new band decided to call themselves The Fluid and played their first show a few weeks later. The venue was the German House and it had 400 people packed in to see [...]

I love this first photo of Mark Arm last Thursday hanging from the rafters of the Sunset Tavern after he had pushed through the audience and climbed the bar and was singing over the crowd. And my favorite bartender Holly looks totally not worried at all in the background on both photos as Mark screams and knocks over drinks. [...]
