About JEFF the Brotherhood : Jake and Jamin Orrall, aka JEFF The Brotherhood, are seen by many to be latter-day pioneers of the Nashville rock scene, but they see themselves as brothers who can't remember not playing music together for fun. Their family-owned, vinyl-centered record label, Infinity Cat Recordings, has been a pillar of support for Nashville bands since 2002 (with 60 releases to date) and was named "Nashville's Best Record Label 20103 by the Nashville Scene. But their first love has always been the Brotherhood known as JEFF. Known for their relentless touring [...]

Brooklyn's Sleigh Bells will be playing Forecastle on the opening day, so the bar is going to be set pretty high for the rest of the weekend. If you were at the sold-out Zanzabar show a while back, you know what I'm talking about. Since the Z bar show, they have released a new album (below), played SNL and countless other TV performances, and basically took over the indie airwaves. Call it experimental pop, or whatever, but the bottom line is that it hits hard and you can dance to it. Sounds like a [...]

Of all the bands playing at Forecastle X this year, we may be most excited about Beach House on Friday. We fell in love with the band after their release of Teen Dream , and just in time for this summer, Beach House has released the first track of their upcoming album, Bloom , out May 15th. Check out "Myth" below. It's just as hauntingly beautiful as their sophomore album, so I can't wait to hear the rest, then see it live in-person at Forecastle! [...]

Tweet Buy the album from Amazon - Vinyl / MP3 / CD This band popped up on my radar via the Saddle Creek Records Facebook page, where they've been teasing a video for the single "Muscle Relaxants" for weeks. It's not my favorite song on the record, but after watching all the teasers I'm kinda pissed that the video hasn't been released yet. "Departing" was released in [...]

It's easy to agree that 2010 has seen a myriad of awesome fashions and as we look forward into 2011, CS has enlisted the help of the 2010 IWFW "Runway to Fashion Week" winner, Theodore Elyett, to give us the 2011 Fashion Forecast! [...]

She & Him DAY 3: SUNDAY She & Him make music for an eternal springtime, when the temperature is warm enough to go riding with the top (or at least the windows) rolled down and the radio turned up. They occupy an alternate universe where the saddest of songs feel as warm as sun showers; the rain may be coming down, but somewhere nearby, everything looks bright. What began as a fascinating, no-strings attached collaboration evolved into a bona fide, touring band, and She & Him are here to stay. [...]

Spoon DAY 3: SUNDAY Brit Daniels has carefully crafted the indie-rock band Spoon's reliably alluring, taut rock-n-roll sound that has defined their career for nearly two decades. This year, they are celebrating the release of their latest record, Transference, which offers nothing less than the methodological brilliance that has come to be expected from Spoon. Manchester Orchestra DAY 1: Friday @ 8:00 - 9:00 on West Stage Manchester Orchestra is a five-part American rock band from Atlanta, Georgia led by vocalist Andy Hull, whose vocals rings pure and honest, gently sharing eloquent stories of hope, loss, and love. Andy provides an intelligent mouthpiece for his generation, providing the words that will surely be scrawled lovingly within the cover of spiral-notebooks across the nation. Their newest album, Mean Everything to Nothing , is an elaborate, collaborative project that confirms the evolution this young band [...]

Minus the Bear DAY 3: SUNDAY Minus the Bear is the Seattle-based band defined by their ability to produce a unique, indie influenced sound accented by rock-n-rock and sensual funk grooves. Their sound involves a mix of pele-esque guitar-taps and electronics, with a Don Cab-esque sophistication of composition. Their new record OMNI maintains this inimitable sound and vision that is guaranteed to gratify any live audience. "One of the things we wanted to do was capture more of the live energy. We feel like the live [...]

Drive-By Truckers DAY 1: FRIDAY Flaunting a mix of Southern pride, erudite lyrics, and a muscled three-guitar attack, Drive-By Truckers became one of the most well-respected alternative country-rock acts of the 2000s. Led by frontman Patterson Hood and comprising a rotating cast of Georgia and Alabama natives, the band celebrated the South while refusing to paint over its spotty past. History, folklore, politics, and character studies all shared equal space in the Truckers catalog. [...]

Grace Potter and the Nocturnals DAY 2: SATURDAY Grace Potter and the Nocturnals are a band that produce a timeless, organic brand of American rock & roll. Their 70s hard-rock sound, combined with bluesy grooves and soulful vocals, draw comparisons to the likes of Janis Joplin and The Band. Perhaps their greatest asset is the ability to transcend genres, and create a natural sense of dynamics and a palate containing all the useful colors, and these qualities allow them to stretch out onstage, to riveting effect. [...]

Cirque Berzerk (Los Angeles Circus) DAY 2: SATURDAY Cirque Bzerek "Los Angeles Circus" is an innovative, fiery, caberat extravaganza combining aerial acrobatics, clowning, and other traditional circus performances with punk rock and burlesque influences. Cirque Berzerk has been entertaining audiences since 2005, with their signature spin on contemporary circus theater. It's an event that's been described as a circus on acid: French burlesque meets Sweeney Todd meets Cirque du Soliel and P.T. Barnum's worst nightmare. Forecastle will be the first major festival in the country to host them, [...]

DEVO DAY 2: SATURDAY One of new wave's most innovative and successful bands, DEVO is back to sport their hazmat suits and signature "Energy Domes" for a new generation, DEVO is touring the country bringing back 1980s classics such as "Whip It" and "Secret Agent Man" as well as new music from their latest album, Something for Everybody that resonates the same venerated, funky style, that has made them a cultural sensation. [...]

I think I started my review of The Forecast's last album In The Shadow Of Two Gunmen in exactly the same way; Peoria is a blue-collar working-class town in central Illinois and where The Forecast calls home and the influence of their Midwestern roots is clearly evident in the music. Sometime between then and now The Forecast was dropped by Victory Records and signed on with Eyeball Records for this new self-titled album. There's no shortage of the energetic and catchy songs here but it all seems a little less dynamic and more slickly [...]

Holiday Shores and Twin Sister are going to be heading back our way after their SXSW romp and will be stopping into Louisville's Nachbar on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 10pm. You are probably going to be at the Nachbar anyway, but hey, you can't go wrong with a free show and especially this show. Holiday Shores and Twin Sister are two quickly rising bands that have been subject to a lot of buzz. If you saw the Holiday Shores play with the Evangelicals at Glassworks not too long ago, then you know what I'm talking about. [...]
