If you haven't heard of this oddly punctuated band yet, you're either someone who doesn't listen to the radio/watch TV or you are oblivious. Fun.'s music has been featured in two super bowl commercials in the last two years... it's hard to miss these guys. Yet, the true calamity in all of this is the neglect of their first album, Aim and Ignite . Largely written as a Format project, Fun's debut is a dazzling display of progressive pop... I'm not sure it's rock. But, it's definitely progressive, so I'm calling it progressive pop (think [...]

We've been through one of the busiest weeks we've ever recorded in Sodwee.com's history. And only because we premiered the 'real' version of 'Get Lucky' in France. Long before any official radio or official source. We also produced a translated version of the Track by Track published on French website Nouvel Obs for international readers. And This has been seens by thousands already. We published this before any english source, obviously. We're are proud, of the accomplished work and the subsequent all-nighters we had to go throught to pull off this feat. And we're proud so many of you guys [...]

In honor of Josh Ritter ’s lovely yet heartwrenching new album , inspired by the tragic disintegration of his marriage, I’ve compiled a mix of some of my favorite breakup songs. To keep this at a reasonable number, I’ve limited it to songs from the last 15 years (apologies to Bob Dylan , Nilsson , Sam Cooke , Love , and The Cure , among others). Click here to download the mix / listen on Spotify . 01. Stars - Your Ex-Lover Is Dead [...]

nevver : The rise and fall of music delivery formats

Bands: fun. , Andrew McMahon Location: Boston, Massachusetts’s The Orpheum Date: February 1, 2013 All pictures by Avery Fiftal for Lost In The Sound You may know fun. simply as the band that sings "We Are Young" or maybe you know them as the band that had 3 songs in the Billboard Top 100 in 2012 and who had their second full album, Some Nights, recently go platinum, but this band [...]

Once upon a time, in the golden days of our youth, there was the Emo phenomenon. Remember those days? The days of eyeliner, sadness and men wearing women’s jeans (ok, that still happens). The days when the only songs lining our brick-like iPods expressed the deep emotional and existential angst we were experiencing. Those days were awesome. We decided to get nostalgic and relive our emo-kid past with a 20 Fave list. We laid some ground rules for the list to make sure it didn’t become the 20 Weezer , Fugazi and Cursive songs list [...]
There once was a band called the Format. For a time they were my favorite band... they introduced me to Harry Nilsson, & I guess Cat Stevens, too. At some point, I guess Sam wanted to go back to Phoenix & raise a family, so he did. And so Nate started Fun. with some guys they had toured with. And while Fun. has been out scoring Grammy noms & playing halftime shows, Sam has been quietly recording singles & scoring indie flicks. Then last year he released his first solo EP, NONA. It's all songs about his daughter, & it's [...]
For the sake of formatting, if you’d be interested in checking out ‘ My 5 Favourite EPs Of 2012 ’ list you’ll need to pop over to HI54LOFI.COM (and then you can read a bit and listen to a track from each… and then hopefully you’ll agree with me and pick up whichever ones you don’t already have). 5 Favourite Albums tomorrow and then I promise to not make too many more lists. Oh yes… happy new year as well.

Calling all drum & bass and jungle heads, the one and only Blu Mar Ten are digging through the vaults and pulling out some classic mixes from 1992 and 1997. Apparently they found a whole bunch of mixes and are in the process of ripping the cassettes to MP3. Given the years these mixes were done the sound quality isn’t great as they were all recorded on belt drive decks through a mixer with no EQ and committed to cassette on a shabby home stereo…But what the hell, it’s 100% authentic ‘90s sound through and through. DJ Hype, Ed Rush, Nico, [...]

MA3 - Bite It - Formation [1996] MA1 is a name made famous by legendary rave promoters World Dance, Fantazia and Helter Skelter. If you grew up within the original rave scene and didn’t own one of these jackets you were either a social outcast, a lover of death metal or that strange genre Brit Pop . For those who could afford a selection of these jackets, the MA2 was the gentleman's raving jacket with a collar to turn [...]

Women. You know what the age old saying is - can't live with them, can't live...uh...without them? The second part might be up for debate but that's for a later discussion. What I can assure you is that I don't have binders full of them like our good friend Mittens, but I've got a playlist that sure is. This week's list is a tribute to the female race with 8 songs dedicated to everything about them. If you think you've got a playlist worthy of making the site, shoot us an email. We're always looking to get our [...]

Neil Young is unhappy thathis high-quality music is being squished into mp3 format and played back on crappy speakers. He's got a plan though: He's going to persuade people to buy a new player and a new format . This will be high-quality music. What could go wrong? Obviously, if you're punting a high-quality music player, it's going to have to be a high-end product all the way through. So this player, Pono, is going to be a thing of great beauty, right? Um... okay, [...]
In an act of unpredictable pop collaboration, Pink and fun. frontman Nate Reuss have joined forces to bring us “Just Give Me a Reason.” Pink tones down her usual adrenaline-soaked vocals for a softer sounding duet with Mr. Reuss. The song tells the story of a pair falling out of love, but hope for the troubled couple resonates as the chorus rings out over and over that the two are optimistic that they’ll “learn to love again.” Being a Nate Ruess fan from the good ol' days of The Format (RIP), I confess that [...]

Nice eclectic mix with many indie cuts and hiphop mashups by Totescity from Las Vegas. This will get you off your feet and feeling good, will put you right in that mood to go clubbing tonight. Don't blame us tomorrow if you feel rough. Continue Reading No related posts.

The downside to writing about new music everyday is that the whole process can feel rather daunting from time to time. Hours upon hours spent shuffling through hundreds of songs looking for one more diamond in the rough, it's a perpetual never ending cycle and it saddens me how numb things begin to sound with so many bands doing similar things, every couple of months though some song will come along reminding me what it is that keeps me in love with music and why I began doing this so many years ago, " The Match " from The [...]
