Covers by a variety of artists of each song on Elliott Smith's Either/Or.
Returning with their first album in five years, the Foxymorons present Bible Stories, a 10-song collection of alt-country-inflected indie rock that marks the duo's fourth release to date. Self-recorded during the freezing months of a recent Nashville winter and subsequently mixed by long-time collaborator Matt Pence (Centro-matic), the songs "revel in a certain scruffy, underdog status [...]
Legend has it that the Foxymorons were born in a Sunday-school classroom when David Dewese and Jerry James (who hail from Tennessee and Texas, respectively) found an abandoned drum kit and started playing. Now, 16 years later, the duo has released its fourth full-length, Bible Stories (Foxyphoton), which is a rather fitting name given the [...]

Well gang, I'm happy to say that these days our Friday Mixtape is really firing on all cylinders. The recent addition of our new Covers section (brought to you by Cover Me) has lifted the mix to a previously unthinkable level of awesomeness, and our other sections are feeding off that new energy. Alright, I might be exaggerating just a bit (I'm not sure if our sections can actively step up their game on their own), but I'm sincere when I say this tape is top notch. For our new formula, we kept the [...]

David Dewese and Jerry James are the Foxymorons Going on over a decade as a band, the Foxymorons are set to release their fourth long player next Tuesday. Their last record got positive reviews from All Music and Pitchfork and regular play on Morning Becomes Eclectic . The new record's already getting tons of spins on KEXP [...]

An oxymoron is a figure of speech, whereby two contrasting words are used to describe an effect or motive, e.g. "cruel to be kind". A fox is a four-legged animal, prone to climbing into apartment blocks through open windows and attacking young children; a moron is someone who has made some stupid life decisions. Whether The Foxymorons are referring to themselves as a duo who in semblance are a contradiction, or as baby-snatching idiots is unknown. I guess they don't mean the latter. If "oxymoron" suggests a conflict in style, the band's fourth studio album [...]
The Southern pop duo the Foxymorons return after five years with their latest long player, Bible Stories next week. Their gentle, pastoral pop ideally suits these waning days of summer, made all the more ironic given that these tunes were recorded during the cold winter months in frosty Nashville basement. Today we have the pleasure of premiering the video for the single "This Too Shall Pass". Foxymoron's David Dewese talks about the video's creation: "We...

You can make a valid argument that bouncy throwback pop heavily influenced by folk-pop artists from the 60s and 70s are not only a dime a dozen, but they all fit a fairly consistent mold. When it comes down to it, you'd be pretty much right - for the most part. But that doesn't really matter, because these bands tend to also be great more often than not. Foxymorons aren't your run-of-the-mill folk-pop group, and thus the mold is broken for them. They make their own mold and you can [...]
[ download ] [tweetmeme] At its core "Skinny Cow Blues" is a teenage pick up song that could have been plucked from Richard Linklater's classic Dazed and Confused . You can almost hear Matthew McConaughey's character saying, "You've got a nice last name / ask me to say it again / in the car." Instead it was written by David Dewese and Jerry James, two guys who call Texas and Nashville home, and for "Skinny Cow Blues," geography is destiny. With pacing that is reminiscent of Pavement's twangy " Gold Soundz [...]

The Texas/Tennessee duo The Foxymorons return after a 5 year break with new album Bible Stories set for release August 24th . Seems they recorded the album in a creaky basement during the freezing winter months in Nashville, Tennessee . If you're a fan of bands like Wilco or Pavement then these artists will be right up your alley. They sent along a free track from the album cleared for posting called "Skinny Cow Blues" and I am loving it! [...]

Here's an interview with David Dewese . David's a Nashville based singer-songwriter who I met about seven years ago through our mutual friend, Jerry James (his bandmate in the Foxymorons). David recently released his first solo record, Make the Best Of It and it's available via iTunes, Amazon and other online retailers. You can stream some tracks at his Myspace page. Even if you're not familiar with David's music, there's some great info on Nashville in the interview, so [...]
