Despite all their good work over the past nine years, for a lot of people The Futureheads will always be associated with feisty cover of 'Hounds Of Love', a great record but one that brought a slight whiff of novelty along with it. It's clearly not something that bothers them though, as Rant sees them dispense with their guitars, drums and everything and else to record entirely a capella. For those who like what they know it'll surely be a step to far, but for those with a more open mind their fifth album is a [...]

"Plain and simple, this is an a capella album, and it's quite some change for the group..." The Futureheads | Rant Since breaking through with their self-titled debut in 2004 The Futureheads have, without fail, been releasing an album every two years. By the time 2010's The Chaos just about limped into the UK Top 50 it was clear that it was time for a change. But what's a guitar band to do in a pop climate that, while not hostile, seems genuinely indifferent to guitar music. Well, for The Futureheads it [...]
This year's Camden Crawl just keeps growing! Yet more bands and even some comedians have been added to the already stellar lineup for the May Bank Holiday weekend extravaganza that takes over the music capital of London. Joining the likes of Death In Vegas , Rolo Tomassi and Alabama 3 , are the Scottish indie-rock titans Glasvegas , dancey post-punkers the Futureheads , and former Supergrass frontman Gaz Coombes will be performing a solo show. Also announced for the jam-packed weekend of [...]
At first thought, an a capella version of the Black Eyed Peas' 'Meet Me Halfway' performed by Sunderland's Futureheads is a disturbing, Frankenstein's monster-esque proposition; a genre-bending mashup simply crying out to be derided as the wrong song, played in the wrong way, by the wrong band. That it actually works as a piece, with its stark backdrop of layered minor chords, and plaintive yet square-jawed lead vocal, is nothing short of astonishing. Gone is the humdrum synth 'n' drumbox arrangement of the original; instead we have four men's voices and dark [...]

Here's some more new music from The Futurehead's forthcoming a cappella album, Rant . Not long ago we slapped their track Robot on to your screen, now we've got the band's version of the Black Eyed Peas' Meet Me Halfway . The song is going to be released as a double A-side, along with a cover of Sparks' The Number 1 Song in Heaven . Rant is out on April 2.
To be released in conjunction with their new a cappella album 'Rant', The Futureheads have announced that double A-side 'Meet Me Halfway/The No.1 Song In Heaven' will also be released, seeing the band transform The Black Eyed Peas' single and the 1970s Sparks track into harmonious four-part a capellas.
The Futureheads have announced that their new record Rant, which is set for release on April 2nd, will be a completely a capella affair. For those of you who aren't hot on the Italian language, this means that the record will contain absolutely no instrumentation. No guitars, no drums, no bass, only gruff sweet Northern vocals. If you, like us, can't quite grasp the concept then wrap you ears around this, the first taster from the album; The band have also announced a full UK tour, kicking off in [...]

The Futureheads will be returning to the gig scene soon, with a UK tour scheduled for April. The tour will be very special, as the Sunderland band promises acoustic and a cappella performances you won't want to miss. The general sale begins on Tuesday the 21st of February, but an exclusive fan presale will be held on Monday the 20th. Details on this presale and their next album 'Rant' are available on the band's official Web site. You can listen to a new recording of an old classic of theirs, an a cappella [...]

Frank Yang Just so we're clear, I am not stalking Veronica Falls . It's pure coincidence that I've seen the London-based band three times in the past year in three different countries - America , Canada , and Iceland - on two different continents. Really. Okay, it's not as though I was running into them on the street while they were playing - their self-titled debut was one of my favourites of last year (and barely missed my year-end list) so when the opportunity to see them live [...]

Are The Futureheads a modern version of The Flying Pickets? Well, they're releasing cappella music at a time of Tory induced austerity and record unemployment, but unfortunately the lack of a bald guy and some Teddy Boy threads set them apart. Their music does too. However, the Sunderland band do share a love of vocal dexterity with the 80s act, so much so that they've recorded an album of instrument free tracks for you. It's called Rant , it's out on April 2 and features re-arranged versions selection of the band's songs, including this one – Robot .

The Futureheads have always marched to the beat of their own drum. Well, with their new album there's no drum at all. That's because Rant , out April 2nd in the UK, is an a capella record. The band have planned an a capella and acoustic tour of the UK in support of the record, but nothing seems to be in the works for North America yet. Here's the track list: Continue reading »

Echotape , a band that came together under a shared disillusionment that the vast majority of artists that presented themselves as "alternative" were, in fact, devoid of any discernible purpose or ambition beyond commercial or egotistic self-nourishment, have a four track EP scheduled for release later this year. Their first released track is called "Came Into My Blood" and it combines dream-like melodies, an upbeat rhythm similar to the Horrors , and passionate vocals. For their debut album, they have worked with legendary producer Youth (of Killing [...]

MM and I went to see a film this week with a friend of ours, Gooner Ian. We were the only three in the cinema until the last minute when a couple gate-crashed the party. (Didn't they realise?! We didn't!) Anyway, no-one could deny the commanding central performance or even a highly credible supporting cast, but it just wasn't what it promised to be. It lacked depth (in this case political) and was without the cultural reference points that spark a whole raft of memories. Sadly, it just sort of faded away from consciousness. It's a metaphor that [...]

Sometimes I get spoiled by living in Los Angeles. Whether it's walking down the street and bumping into a celebrity or knowing about a "hot" band before they make it seems completely normal. Sure the latter part of that statement will probably ostracize me from some of my readers, but it's true. Although it seems pretentious and snobbish, it feels weird constantly saying, "I have been listening to this band for X amount of years before anyone knew who they were." After a while you become accustomed to this feeling and jaded since a lot of breakthrough bands [...]

A little while back I brought you news of MiniBoone , a group with history in art-rock, using repetitive verses and frenetic imagery to win over fans. This newest single is very similar, at least in the beginning of the tune, sort of like old school Futureheads . But, as the song progresses it's reigned in a bit, organized into a fairly traditional pop spin. You'll definitely find yourself lost in this track, especially as the vocals begin to warm a bit. You can find this track and several others [...]
Αχ!
The Eversons are highlights in the fusion of past and present that is art-punk, a genre most recently propelled by names like Art Brut and The Rakes. Both groups debuted in 2005 with a thickly accented, spontaneously wry vocal wit backed by tremolo-heavy riffs and mechanical rhythms in a style akin to bands like Gang [...]
