![[Mixtape] DJ Roc: "Midwest Murda"](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4008719_lg.jpg)
While the Midwest may be best known for churning out the likes of Kanye, Lupe and many artists of similar genre, Gangsta Rap is extremely relevant in every major portal in the Middle of the Map. As seen in recent years, Gary Indiana can definitely produce great rappers, and DJ Roc is a reason for anyone's success coming from Gary. Today we get "Midwest Murda" featuring a variety of bangers from YP, King Louie, Yung Bo & of course Str8 Slammin click. Lookout for an exclusive Gibbs freestyle as well. [...]

I probably should have said something about We'll Go Machete a couple years ago whenever their first EP was released. I at least hope I gave them some love on a mix way back when, because the more I listen to their debut album Strong Drunk Hands the more I regret remaining mum about them until now. Especially, when it comes right down to it, they sort of represent the period and sound in which this blog was originally based around anyway. Things have changed [...]
Axl did one. Vince did one. Even Corey did one. So, of course, I've gotta do one, right? 2011 has been a pretty decent year for hardcore so far, with solid releases from artists old and new. Unsurprisingly, then, my picks at this point in the year reflect that dynamic. I intentionally excluded EPs (Jello [...]

As we prepare for the 2011 Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago, we are bringing you previews of several of the bands playing that we are looking forward to seeing. In the days leading up to the festival on July 15th, you can stop by ENS and see a P4K centric preview for the bands. Enjoy a quick preview of the upcoming set from Battles. Yet another performance we are really excited to see this year at Pitchfork. WHO?: Battles are an experimental rock band from New York, who consistently [...]

Been enjoying The Gary's El Camino EP for a while and since I'm playing it this morning I thought I'd post up some links. The EP is their third release and was recorded by Steve Albini at his Electrical Audio studio in Chicago. The EP is available through Cedar Fever Records. Listen to the entire thing here to gather your own opinions, as you always should. http://thegary.com/ http://www.facebook.com/thegar yatx http://www.cedarfeverrecords.c om/

Austin's The Gary have always seemed to write songs with the working class at heart. And with that it's easy to label the bands music as bleak and with a general feeling of exhaustion akin to just throwing ones hands in the air and essentially giving up. Sure, there is plenty of that to be found in their off kilter brand of post-punk/indie-rock. It comes with the territory I'd imagine. However, what really tunes them in I believe is that they hold the small bits of optimism here and there [...]
The last time we heard about Austin, Texas, trio The Gary, we heard about my unnatural love of the words "juxtaposition" and "dichotomy." This time, we get to hear from the band itself. Band members Dave Norwood and Paul Warner were nice enough to answer a few of my questions. Instead of rambling on, here...
Austin, TX's The Gary have returned with a new release. The EP, El Camino, is the third record from the band. Much like NYC's Career Club, The Gary are a throwback to the early '80s arty post-punk, particularly the pre-reunion work of Mission Of Burma. That fact is driven home early with the deliberate screech of "Here In the Last Days". The band are at their best when they pick up the tempo.
Much like our experience during the first few months of last year, ongoing searches and listening for new music to send 2011 swimming along finds us sorting through a number of incredibly good EP releases to fawn over. For those who could use a healthy dose of past-minded garage rock n' roll, perfectly suited for conquering the new day, we have a serious treat to share this time around. The Gary,
It is really strange where I have been discovering music lately. Some of the greatest bands I have discovered lately have come courtesy of the fantastic Baseball Prospectus podcast Up and In. Every week, they use some indie band as the theme music for the episode. I have been introduced to bands like ShellShag, The...

As if I needed anymore convincing that some people should be sterilized... Amber Portwood , famous for her turn on MTV 's reality show Teen Mom , first gets her daughter taken away from her by authorities, now the National Enquirer uncovers her drug use. The now 20 year old mother, and I use that term VERY loosely, has had nothing but bad press following her appearances on the show. She's got a nasty temper as [...]

OK, I know I'm not the first person to blog about Saturday's Fader Fort on the last day of CMJ, and I'm not the first person to blog about Freddie Gibbs. I am the very first guy whose photo was actually blurred by the hard beats coming out of those QSC 153ers, as well as [...]
