The Gaslight Anthem at Deluna Festival 2012 ( more by Dana (distortion) Yavin ) As mentioned , The Gaslight Anthem are going on a tour this year which hits the NYC area for shows in NJ this May and a Long Island show in June, but didn't previously include anything actually in NYC. That's changed now because the band have just announced two big summer shows happening at Pier 26 @ Hudson River Park on July 26 and 28 . The first [...]

Tom Doyle is a good boy (when he's not provoking bands into threatening to headbutt him or writing letters about pop music , that is). He recycles. He cleans the dishes after he's finished eating. And he took his mum out to go see The Gaslight Anthem when they came and played the fancy Troxy here in London. Six things we learnt when Tom Doyle's Mum when to see The Gaslight Anthem play in London: [...]

Throughout the early part of the aughts Devendra Banhart was best known as the face of the of "freak-folk" movement, thanks in part to the fact that he looked as if he had stepped straight out of the Haight circa 1967. Earlier this month the talented singer-songwriter released his eighth studio album and debut for Nonesuch Records - Mala . The 14-track effort features Banhart's familiar mix of wispy folk and Tropicalia sounds, with bits of synth-y dance beats. Banhart will kick off an extensive world tour in support of the [...]

Tickets to those [...]

‘Folk Punk’ is one of those catch all terms that’s been bandied around quite a lot in recent years and, personally, I find to be a little lazy and uninspired. More often than not it’s used to pigeonhole artists and records that contain an acoustic guitar and some semblance of punk rock ethics in place of more appropriate terms. In the case of Dave Hughes & The Renegade Folk Punk Band, however, this shoe fits and they wear it very well. Mixing modern punk, rock & roll and traditional folk, ‘In Death Do We Part?’ sees the band [...]
While my fellow bloggers and all-around music loving nerds are spending spring break in good 'ol Austin, Texas for South By Southwest this week, some of us left behind in the cold, slushy weather are likely seething with jealousy. To warm us over and giving us something to look forward to, the good people at Osheaga released (after a [...]
The Gaslight Anthem w/ Matrimony, Cory Branan Marathon Music Works; Nashville, TN Mar. 6, 2013 Review by Philip Obenschain (@pobenschain). Photos by Ellice Evins. It's clear that The Gaslight Anthem have an affinity for Nashville. Perhaps it's because the band spent a month here last year, recording their career-defining major label debut album, Handwritten, at Blackbird [...]

Arnaud Potier As It's been kind of funny to see the incredulity that has that has met the announcement of Phoenix as a top-billed act as the Summer's festival lineups are rolled out in the US and Europe, with people scoffing "since when are Phoenix festival headliners?". The answer, of course, being "since they began headlining festivals" - which is to say this year, following the massive success of 20092s Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix and in anticipation of the April 23 release of Bankrupt! . [...]

THIS WEEK'S BEST BET: Alt-J w/ Hundred Waters Wednesday, March 6 Masquerade - 695 North Avenue NE in Atlanta 30308 SOLD OUT! The annual music migration to Austin and SXSW has begun which means there's a crazy amount of quality live music in town this week. It's insane, really. Which kind of makes me feel like an asshole for highlighting a sold out Alt-J show for my top pick considering, well, unless you already have a ticket you're sort of shit out of luck. [...]

Well, it took a bit longer than expected (losing your job in November and having a baby in January will disrupt the blog-writing process a bit), but Given and Taken in Ink's list for best albums of 2012 is finally here. This year, a handful of bands came out of nowhere and blew me away. I knew right away that debut albums from Drew Smith and The Rest would stand among the best releases of the year. They are joined by 28 other great albums, by artists well-known and obscure. I'm pleased that GTI's 2012 list is a [...]

The Gaslight Anthem are heading to Australia this March for a handful of shows. The band released Handwritten last year. In other Gaslight Anthem related news, frontman, Brian Fallon , has just unveiled plans to write, record, and release a solo record sometime this year. While no definite date has been given as to when we might possibly see the record Fallon at the very least did state that his solo effort would ideally be released before The Gaslight Anthem write and record their next album.
