Well, this should be fun. The Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival has proved to be quite the epic annual event. For its 2010 edition, the festival organizers have decided to make the lineup announcement equally epic, so for the next 24 hours or so we'll be glued to our computer screens waiting to see who will be hitting Manchester, Tennessee from June 10-13. As previously mentioned, the lineup announcement will work something like this. Unlike previous announcements, the 2010 bill will not be unveiled all at once, but rather throughout the day, with the goal being [...]

The rock music scene is home to an immeasurable number of bands and artists, the vast majority of which are not household names. In "Rocking Under the Radar," I attempt to highlight one of these under-the-radar acts by applying a very basic investigative method. If you want a quick synopsis of a band or artist you may not know about, this is the place to look. Artist: Frank Turner Where Is He From? London, England When Did He Start? He formally started his career as a solo artist in 2005. Who Is He? Born in Bahrain, but brought up in [...]

The last we heard of The Gaslight Anthem , they were paying tribute to The Beatles. But now the band is hard at work on its new album, American Slang , the follow-up to 2008's The '59 Sound , and the Jersey rockers are going for something unlike they've ever done before: a bit of reality. In an interview with Express Night Out (via DyingScene.com ), lead singer Brian Fallon had a lot to say about a variety of topics. But more interesting than growing up in New Jersey [...]

Brian Fallon of the Gaslight Anthem has confirmed that their third album will be called American Slang , and is due to be released on June 15th. "We're calling the record 'American Slang'; that's the best description of us," said Fallon. "It's kind of like this offhanded backstory that no one gets to see. It's not popular stories — we came from regular things, not extremely bad, not extremely good. ... None of us were, like, really, really broke. I never feel like any of us had it worse than anyone else." Fallon says [...]

In a recent interview with Express Night Out Brian Fallon (singer of TGA) revealed that the group would be titling their yet-to-be recorded new full-length American Slang. The group is set to head into the studio with producer Ted Hutt, who maned the boards for their last record The '59 Sound as well this month. A brief explanation of the title from Brian's interview can be found below. "It's kind of like this offhanded backstory that no one gets to see. It's not popular stories — we came from regular [...]

I couldn't get a few songs by the Tallest Man on Earth out of my head in 2009 I'm not going to make a best-of 2009 list (thought I did post one other best of 2009 list ). I have about 2/3 of the year covered well but the rest of the year's releases I haven't covered as well. I still listen to music obsessively, though and so I can make this list without fear of inadequate preparation. As always with song obsessions, I don't really choose the songs, they choose me. I wish I [...]

Friday Five : \ˈfrī-(ˌ)dā,-dē ˈfīv\ : On the sixth day of every week I hit the shuffle button on my iTunes and share my five and drop a little knowledge and insight for each track. Sometimes there is a playlist involved, sometimes there isn’t. Sometimes we have guest, but most of the time it’s just me. The rest is up to you, our friends and readers! Fire up your media player of choice and share the first five random track of your shuffle in the comments. Editors Note : For the first [...]

Second part of my review of the year, my favourite ten gigs of the past year. It was so difficult this year to pick just ten! So honourable mentions to the following who didn't make it:- In particularly Doves at Coventry Kasbah, it was good to have them back; The Joy Formidable at Derby Royal, always excellent and getting better all the time; That Petrol Emotion back after 15 years away and still sounding good at the Rescue Rooms and even to Marilyn Manson who impressed me recently at the Nottingham Arena. Also regrettably [...]

If your name is Roger Daltrey or Pete Townsend, it's looking like 2010 is going to be a heck of year for you. As we previously reported, The Who will serve as the halftime entertainment at Super Bowl XLIV in Miami, FL on February 7. Then, come March, the seminal classic rock act will be honored via a tribute concert at New York City's Carnegie Hall. The concert, the sixth in the series presented by Knitting Factory founder/City Winery owner Michael Dorf, will feature [...]
Historical Context Fidel Castro resigns, leaving Mick Jagger as the longest running and leatheriest megalomaniac around. Bill Gates steps down from Microsoft to concentrate on philanthropy, proving that it’s the company rather than the man that may be evil. Iceland goes bankrupt. Sigur Ros cry. Some other guy is elected president of the USA. 2008 was also the International Year of the Potato and the International Year of Sanitation, apparently. Was there honestly nothing better we could celebrate? Also, after a couple of bum years in music, 2008 gave us many great albums. [...]
Confirmations, rumors, and lineups! With each festival’s announcement just around the corner, the Festival Outlook has certainly been heating up lately, so much so that if you blink too often, you’ll probably miss something. We feel (and appreciate) your pain… and that’s why we put together a quick roundup of all the latest happenings. Download Festival: AC/DC and Metallica? It's quite possible those could be the two acts headlining next summer's Download Festival , set to take place from June 11-13 in Leicestershire, England. [...]

Each year before posting our top albums of the year, we post albums we missed the previous year. It's typically an embarrassing admission of indie music oversight and this year is no different. I'm ashamed to call myself a music blogger after looking at this list. 1. Henry Clay People - For Cheap Or For Free ( Buy at Amazon for $7.99 ) This is one that we honestly thought was on our list. It wasn't until a couple of weeks after that we realized that [...]
