DJ W!LD introduces on his new imprint two underground house music icons, his partner in crime since years Chris Carrier, and the altruist legend Jay Haze, both remixing the flawless Bizaz, a soulfull and erotic echo to the mid 90s deep house sound.
The ambition of Pretty Escape is admirable, it but also reveals a gap between what the band is and what they seem to want to be. Norwegian five-piece Deleted Waveform Gatherings has created a new album as unruly as the band's name. Pretty Escape is a 20-song, 73-minute pop record: an overall epic collection of music. Luckily, though, like the band's previous three albums, the album may be as long as their name, but the sound isn't nearly as difficult. The band, and frontman/songwriter Oyvind Holm, adroitly crafts sweet melodies, dripping with just enough haze to warm [...]
Ever since I began writing for The Ripple Effect I've come across a wide variety of music artists, some good and some shockingly good. However, the one negative aspect is receiving requests from friends of friends and boyfriend's sisters' cousins' uncles twice removed making requests for me to listen to their demos and CDs. Well, maybe it hasn't been that ridiculous, but it's not too far off. I mean a lot of people have come out of the woodwork asking for my help. Although I respect and encourage them asking me politely, I feel weird trying to remain [...]

Charlie Sheen hosted the festivities at last night's Gathering of the Juggalos and unlike Tila Tequila , who was almost murdered when she was bombed with human feces, Charlie came out unscathed. However, he did get lots of boos and things thrown at him. While the crowd lived up to their reputation, Sheen handled it all, even catching a couple of the projectiles. "Damn! I should have worn my f*cking goggles," he says at [...]

The Revenge turned his hand to The Gathering's 'In My System', converting it into a bass heavy yet user friendly disco house stomp-fest. I'm loving this sound at the moment. One thing I've noticed is the key part of all of these tracks are the drops after the breakdown. The beginning of the track sets the scene - but the drop after the breakdown propels it into a dance floor bomb. More to come from The Revenge soon! The Gathering - [...]
Trance Gathering started as outlet for a few friends to communicate the latest and greatest in trance and progressive. This gathering of friends soon grew to a few hundred friends that contribute by sharing all types of electronic music. Trance Gathering is currently located on Facebook and gives you your daily dose of trance and [...]

Rarely has there been such a gaping disparity between how little a band promise on paper and their actual earth-battering prowess. Essentially, Arbouretum specialise in strictly un-ironic psychedelic boogie. Imagine riff-repeater chiefs Endless Boogie without the knowing smirk, or Gandalf-metal practitioners Dead Meadow with a vastly superior singer, and you're not far off the Baltimore quartet's signature sound. All of which might sound distinctly off-putting; stoner-rock taken to the ludicrous extremes where the heavy-lidded musicians have lost all sense of just how daft their single-minded devotion to heroically extended fretboard explorations and lyrics dabbling in various mythical/mystical [...]
Arbouretum has traded in their folk-ridden tunes for a heavier, fuzzier sound. Creating a vintage 70s flashback, the Baltimore-based clan has taken on a deeper voice and heavier tone in their newest release, The Gathering , from Thrill Jockey. Inspired by "The Red Book" by Carl Jung, Arbouretum's newest release takes lyricism to a whole new level. The group prides itself on creating something unique without the common structured flow of a song. Seeming almost as lengthy poems, each song tells an in-depth story that can only be recognized after continuous listening. In the opening song [...]

Label: Thrill Jockey Release date: 21/02/11 Link: Myspace Buy: Amazon I have to admit, listening to this album was nostalgic. It reminded me of those days, years ago when I was still in grade school and I was really into much heavier rock. Does anyone remember those great Scream soundtracks that were released? Well I sure picked one up and I guess it reminded me of my childhood and the many different kinds of [...]

Hmmm ... how would one describe Arbouretum? The chugging guitars and beats, accompanied by front-man Dave Heumann's extensive and somewhat self-indulgent soloing in opening track 'The White Bird' might indicate a touch of stoner rock. The constant referral to myth and mystic journeys calls to mind an affinity with hobbit metal. 'The Gathering' sits in both categories but truly belongs to neither, instead calling to mind a feel of 70s Black Sabbath had they been absorbing peyote and fantasy fiction. But rather than exhibit the highs and lows Sabbath were able to produce, 'The Gathering' trudges along like [...]

Baltimore's garage-psychedelia crew Arbouretum has been around for a few years and three prior albums, but I'll admit it here — I'd never heard more than their name before their newest album, The Gathering , dropped in my lap. And there are few better ways to make a boring workday less awful than a total surprise. Let's just say The Gathering made 2 p.m. Tuesday in an office in 2011 feel like 2 a.m. Saturday in a basement in 1978 — the record [...]
Since I just finished my Top 20 of 2010 , it has me looking towards 2011 and the releases that are rumored, speculated or actually announced. Here are some releases I'm looking forward to (in no particular order). The Second Dawes Album (May 2011) - I wrote an article about this release and speculation about what tracks are going to be on it . The first Dawes album- North Hills was released in 2009 and has had [...]

Now is a funny time of year; especially this particular year with the awkward falling of public holidays..yes it was Boxing day the other day but yesterday was the holiday - sucked in if you had to work the actual day. Everyone is either MIA, confused or both. The streets scream ghost town...does anyone even work anymore? In keeping with the madness/laziness, a random selection - old, new or otherwise. You've already heard about this whole insane Tila Tequila shit at Insane Clown Posse's Gathering Of The Juggalos festival. I know you have, it's everywhere. But from the get-go it was mostly word-of-mouth and despite my interest in the whole thing I didn't want to post anything about it just yet. The reason why is my buddy Igor from DrivenByBoredom and The Village Voice was right fucking there
It's my favorite time of the year! It's time for the Gathering Of The Juggalos, which means a new infomercial. If you remember last year's then you know why I'm excited. While the 2010 version probably won't get spoofed by SNL, it's still pretty awesome. Link:2010 Gathering Of The Juggalos THIS IS REAL. The Gathering is a huge festival organized by Insane Clown Posse that happens out in the

The Gathering - In My System (Jef K Remix) [See post to listen to audio] As a way to come down after coming home from Roskilde, here's a track that has been scouted for as hotly as anything this season. Ever since people eventually returned from Villalobos' Fabric set, the rumors about a certain system (some even went for sister ) track were in the air. This lead to the usual spectacle of distorted Youtube videos and a whole lot of guesswork, before The Gathering stepped forward as the creators [...]
