Here's a track from a new collaborative project featuring musicians from two of the best garage rock acts out there right now: Black Lips and Gentleman Jesse and His Men. The Gaye Blades' first album is out now on Norton Records , and the track "Don't Get Married" alone makes picking it up worth it. The chord progression and vocal melodies call out to rock 'n' roll's golden age-you know, a time when guys like Chuck Berry reigned supreme. However, the recording style and personality is lo-fi, filthy, and new. The song's subject matter is [...]

Atlanta brethren Gentlemen Jesse Smith and Jared Swilley of The Black Keys split songwriting duties on The Gaye Blades debut LP, released last September. It's a classic affair that puts grimy pop and punk finishes over highly melodic 1950s-inspired rock 'n' roll. As far as I can tell, the album only exists on vinyl pressed via the good folks at Norton Records, but it's well worth the near bargin bin pricing at just ten bucks. Smith's sweet power-pop chops and Swilley's antagonistic streak lend a nice one-two punch to the flow of the record, which also includes a superb cover [...]

For many, MySpace has become nothing more than the Detroit of social networks—a slum of profiles with tacky animated GIFs sparkling across your screen, and a communication format veering toward the third world. For me, it's a jungle of great music, obscene genres and hidden talent. I find myself scouring the once great empire of the web in the early hours of the morning, seeking out interesting acts without having to leave my house. Little does Rupert Murdoch know that he is helping to fuel this intense desire for amazing but mostly unheard music. With that I give [...]
Introducing a romantic clash between psychedelic reverb and sleek '50s country, Wild Choir delivered a set so evil that the lights went out. Literally.

The funeral for B Jay Womack (1974-2009) will be held on Monday, July 6 near the Honeycreek Woodlands at the Monastery of the Holy Spirit in Conyers
This week's CL cover story, "The Life & Times of Bobby Ubangi: How Atlanta's garage rock mascot saved himself before dying," chronicles local music fixture B Jay Womack's battle with cancer. The video montage was created by We Fun director Matthew Robison and Zack Wilson. The following mp3s cover musical output from the Lids on up [...]
Part 2 of a journey to the Gulf of Mexico with garage/punk fixture Bobby Ubangi who was diagnosed with terminal cancer last year.
By Jason Jackowiak Hello again ladies and gents, it's time once again to gather 'round the old Victrola and lend an ear to some of the tastiest slabs of small wax currently littering the shelves of your favorite record emporium or web store. This week, we've got one of the stankiest comps of recent memory, as well as a pair of singles from bands that both contributed to the aforementioned compilation. So get your balloons out, it's time to start huffing. To kick things off this week, we've got [...]

[MP3] Jay Reatard - A Whisper to Me (demo 2008) [...]

" Jenkem is a hallucinogenic recreational drug composed of noxious gas formed from fermented human feces. In the early and mid-1990s, several reports stated that Jenkem was being used by Zambian street children. " Wiki C'est aussi le titre d'une compilation démente, sortie en 73 il y a quelques semaines sur Killer Diller Records! (NY, first release). 10 tracks, 10 groupes : LiveFastDie, Nice Face, Coconut Coolouts, Back C.C.s, Party Cannon, Gaye Blades, Nick Storella, Wizzard Sleeve, Clean Teens, Forks & Knives & Spoons.... No comment. C'est sale, ça sent le Jenkem et [...]
