Did Get Up Kids singer Matt Pryor know that Something to Write Home About would go on to be such an important album? Anybody who says that they were making an "important" album is either an idiot or an asshole. You're just trying to make a good record. How it's interpreted throughout history is not up to you at all. It's completely up to everyone else. I don't know that what we did is important. I've been told by lots of people that they like it and [...]
![Review: Matt Pryor, May Day [2012]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4040996_lg.jpg)
It's a wonder that May Day even exists. There's the time factor: Matt Pryor's most well-known band, the Get Up Kids, recently reunited and released an album last year (one of GTI's Top 30 albums of 2011 ). He's got his long running "side" project the New Amsterdams, as well as that band's alter-ego, the kid-friendly Terrible Twos, and his time spent playing acoustic shows for the "Where's the Band?" tour with the frontmen of Saves the Day, Bayside, the Early November, Thrice, and Into It Over It. And amid all of that activity, Pryor is no [...]

No sooner had Matt Pryor finished a victory lap behind the Get Up Kids' comeback album, last year's "There Are Rules," than he released his second solo album. "May Day" is a folksy tour through the heart and mind of the beloved Kansan, revealing him as somebody who still believes in the game of love but who's been around enough to know the outcomes. As with the rest of his estimable catalog with TGUK, the New Amsterdams and his kids' music incarnation the Terrible Twos, there's no shortage of hooks on "May Day." Or smart couplets. Or sticky [...]

Matt Pryor May Day Nightshoes Syndicate Records [2012] Fire Note Says: The Get Up Kid, Matt Pryor, once again ventures out with a solid acoustic driven solo set which shines around every corner! Album Review: The Get Up Kids frontman Matt Pryor returns here with his sophomore solo outing titled May Day that is another exciting success story from a Kickstarter campaign. Having your record [...]
Matt Pryor , beloved frontman of The Get Up Kids and The New Amsterdams, has made his second solo album precisely what it should be. Written and recorded at home between GUK gigs over the course of a month (May, get it?), May Day is a simple, transcendent exercise in songwriting. Opener "Don't Let the Bastards Get You Down" has the title of a pop-punk nightmare but a quiet soul, setting the tone for this cozy album. Kindhearted and warm under the glow of acoustic guitar, the song puts Pryor's distinctive voice center stage to charming [...]

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars I'll admit that there's definitely a soft spot in my heart for Matt Pryor , though I was less than enthralled with his last effort with former band The Get Up Kids . Yet, despite that misstep, he's always had a great ability to craft songs with lyrics that somehow find attachment to my heart. Love him or hate him, you can't deny that he's been warming his way into our hearts from the get-go, and [...]

I've been thinking a lot about the list-making process. Someone recently asked me: What is the purpose of making a list? My initial reaction - because it's fun - is actually somewhat shallow. Is it really? Yeah, probably...somewhat...maybe? But if so, still: Why? In listening to me think out loud about this, my wife commented that she doesn't make lists for fun. Why, then? "To keep myself sane. To make sure I don't forget things I need to do." In other words: To make order out of chaos. To provide structure to an unstructured world. As [...]
Getup Kids frontman Matt Pryor funded his sophomore album, May Day , on Kickstarter. After months of work on the album it will finally see the light of day on January 24th 2012 courtesy of Pryor's own label Nightshoes Syndicate. "Polish The Broken Glass" is from the upcoming album and is one of those classic late night soulful sing along songs. Pryor is set to hit the road in support of the album starting on January 19th at the Sherman Theater in Stroudsburg, PA with dates going into mid-February. [...]

The Get Up Kids have confirmed that their new single 'Rally Round The Fool' (out October 10th) will be backed by 'Past Is Past', which you can hear above. If you like it, make sure you get the single when it's released, as you won't find it anywhere else! The band will play Leeds Cockpit 2 on October 4th, and the Underworld in London on October 5th.
The good ol days of TGUK - not sure I will ever get tired of hearing this.
For the past two summers, The Onion 's A.V. Club has been doing some amazing stuff with their A.V. Undercover series . By having buzzing indie artists come into their offices and choose a song to cover from an ever-shrinking list, the Club has managed to capture on film such glories as Titus Andronicus putting their touch on They Might Be Giants' "Birdhouse In Your Soul" followed a few weeks later by TMBG and the A.V. Club staff performing the best damn rendition ever of Chumbawama's only smash [...]
The Get Up Kids cover "Girls And Boys" by Blur Came into this expecting to hate on it pretty hard, given that it's 902s emo stalwarts The Get Up Kids covering Blur and all, but it's really not terrible. Musically, it holds up, and, if I'm forced to gripe, my only concern is that the vocals lack any of Damon Albarn's panache. But, again, surprisingly not terrible.
The Get Up Kids are the latest band to take part in the A.V. Club 's ' Undercover Series ', the online series which sees band's perform a cover of one track off a list of 25 fan chosen songs. The band perfumed a cover of Blur 's " Girls and Boys " off their 1994 album ' Parklife '. Check out the cover above.

The Get Up Kids go undercover and pay homage to Blur with 'Girls and Boys'
The Get Up Kids put forth a solid cover of Blur's "Girls and Boys" for AV Club's undercover series . While your there make sure to check out The Mountain Goat's cover of Jawbreaker.
For a band that's been around since the Clinton Administration's first term, resuscitated Midwestern emo guys the Get Up Kids certainly are taking a DIY approach these days. The new video for "Rally 'Round the Fool" — like the first three made for songs off their first album since 2004, "There Are Rules" — was made by Pat Vamos ( Upright Citizens Brigade ) using found footage. Not that the Get Up Kids' army of fans are going to need any slick, megabucks videos; with "There Are Rules," they got what they wanted — bright, prickly and often [...]

Series: Cluster 1 HANGOUT with Blake Sennett - Hilarity ensues when CoS/Cluster 12s Dan Caffrey takes The Elected frontman/former Rilo Kiley guitarist to Chicago's legendary eccentric novelty store, Uncle Fun. Music Videos: Lykke Li – "Sadness is a Blessing" - An entire restaurant watches in silence as Lykke Li proceeds to get hammered, and then sings. Even actor Stellan Skarsgard looks confused in this one. The Get Up Kids – "Rally Round the Fool" - Lots of salvaged footage that will make you [...]
