But the path between music and modeling is not a one-way street. It's just as [...]

Last week, from Wednesday until Sunday, Reykjavik, Iceland hosted its annual Airwaves festival. It's an urban festival and a hell of a party, with the city's invariably intimate venues acting in concert to present a slew of shows in a fashion akin to CMJ or SXSW. This year, Stereogum partnered with Iceland Airwaves to curate and present a show featuring the majestic Maryland beauties of Beach House , which meant we got to fly in, stay, and cover the duration of the festival. What follows is a sprawling recap of our week seeing bands and walking around the city. [...]
Watch Beck and hist band cover Serge Gainsbourg, with help from the Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and more.
It was a beautiful evening at the Hollywood Bowl for the KCRW-sponsored tribute to Serge Gainsbourg curated by Beck. The all star line up included Ed Droste (Grizzly Bear), Victoria Legrand (Beach House), Mike Patton (Faith No More), Sean Lennon & Charlotte Kemp Muhl (The Ghost Of A Saber Tooth Tiger), Zola Jesus, Lulu Gainsbourg, and up-and-coming rocker Joseph Gordon-Levitt all backed by Beck's Sea Change era band. After playing a number of classic Gainsbourg tunes, Jean Claude Vannier conducted a recreation of Gainsbourg's album Historie De Melody Nelson . C'était magnifique. Listen to Beck's [...]

Photos by G. Sean Lennon of The GOASTT and G The other night I saw The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger ( The GOASTT ) perform at Bowery Ballroom in New York. I enjoyed their set and found that there was no way I wasn't going to say hello to lead singers Sean Lennon and model Charlotte Kemp Muhl. As you can see from these pictures, both Sean and Charlotte (who are also boyfriend and girlfriend) were extremely cool. I resisted telling Sean that I [...]

Something I just couldn't get on board with during SXSW was getting up early. I was staying in a room with six other people and every single morning I would wake up and everyone would be gone by 11AM. Screw that! I stayed up until fucking 3AM! I need some God damn energy for the next day or else I'm dragging ass for rest of the day. Especially in this Texas heat. So I woke up at the crack of noon and made my way to devour some Waffle Tacos. It exactly [...]

Theophilus London @ Mohawk Theophilus London packed the downstairs room of the Mohawk as part of the Mog/Lexus Party. Theo did an A+ job at engaging not only a kinetic swath of fans but a room, perhaps not so familiar with his music. "Flying Overseas", "Why Even Try", "Strange Love", all the best examples of his unique Electro Hip Hop, hyped the crowd. His brief 30 minute set flew by, with multiple instances of girls-in-attendance brought on stage, numerous hilarious back-and-forths with the audience, and a few indie celeb-in-the-crowd shouts (TVOTR's Dave Sitek, for one). [...]
So we typically toss a video onto a post when highlighting a new band or a show preview or something and let you draw your own conclusion about it. Sometimes we throw a change-up... strike that - let’s call it a round up. Most of these videos are of bands we have previously talked about here on Draw Us Lines, so we won’t be telling you much about those bands themselves, just some musings that really aren’t worth a damn. If a picture is worth 1000 words, then a video must be worth a million. Hold on to your hats! [...]

Given the volume of music available for consideration on One Track Mind, we invariably have to pass on a lot of tasty morsels. [tweetmeme] In a desire to share even more great, free music with you, the Sunday Sampler offers a handful of tracks without the usual critical and biographical write-up. Less talk, more tunes. So in case you didn't know it, I know the folks in Oryx and Crake . Which is pretty cool since they are easily my favorite Atlanta band right now. What's even cooler for me is that they will share the stage at the EARL on January 15th with The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger. It will be a stripped down version of the band - only three of the usual nine band members - but still a cool show, right? But that should be cool for anybody, why is it so cool [...]
