Most people know Ok Go for their music videos. When the band showed up on the Sasquatch! Music Festival lineup a couple years ago, I couldn't contain my excitement, but a friend contested with (paraphrased) "but how great could their live show be when they can't implement their video gimmickry?" I then went on to explain that, um, Ok Go is first and foremost about the music, and anyone who doesn't realize that needs to listen to them. It wasn't until later I began listening to the band that I saw one [...]
I actually tweeted about this album yesterday, and the good people at Potholes In My Blog let me know it's available to be streamed in full via SoundCloud. Nice! Gigantic, Vol. 1 is the latest album from Philadelphia producer Small Professor. It's one of those LPs that features the production of one, but the mic skills of many. I'm usually on the fence with albums like this, because the skills and personalities of the MCs involved ends up varying so much. However, Small Professor does his best to keep things consistent and cohesive. [...]

Nickelodeon actor Ryan Rottman was arrested in Hollywood last night for DUI. Rottman, who starred in the TeenNick show ' Gigantic ,' is also famous for dating fellow 'Nick' star Victoria Justice . The whole incident began when Rottman was driving in Hollywood last night, the actor happened to jump the curb and to his misfortune the police saw it happen and pulled him over. The police smelled a strong odor of alcohol and after performing a field sobriety test, the cops arrested him on suspicion of DUI . [...]
After catching the Surfer Blood cover of "Gigantic" I wanted to see how the kids fared and went looking for a Pixies performance in an at least somewhat similar setup and just so happened up on this glorious bit of time-capsule gold at the top of the YouTube heap. Watch until the very end or fast forward to about the 3:10 mark for some uncomfortable host/guest interaction. Tweet

Acá el video: Surfer Blood covers The Pixies [...]
Surfer Blood recently took part in A.V. Club Undercover , the online series which sees band's perform a cover of one track off a list of 25 fan chosen songs. The latest episode of the series sees Surfer Blood cover The Pixies classic " Gigantic ". The band recruited their friend Sarah Baldwin for lead vocals on the track. Watch the cover above.

Is it bad luck comes in threes? Or just luck in general? Either way my string continues with # 2 as I ended up with a massive black-out concussion this week, so the majority of the week I hardly could move my head - let alone listen anything louder than a page of a book turn. That isn't to say these songs aren't good... just that I'm still on the red-eyed stupor tip, still braving the storm. Don't hate. Where the fuck is Fuzzy? I owe him one. Fingerbanger 1 : Para - Save Your [...]
Special Edition: Camobear RecordsToday I'm going to do something a little different. For the first time on MTIB you're getting an entire music label that isn't bad. Introduced to me by my buddy Jordan, the west coast's own Camobear records is bringin' it hard. I've actually already featured a Camobear artist on the site, The Chicharones made it into one of my previous posts with their track "Hi,
Brooklyn power trio Your Youth revealed their most excellent new video for the song "Diamond" yesterday on AOL Spinner. As the band's singer/guitarist AJ Wolosenko told Spinner, "the song was pretty much screaming for a 'party video,' but while we love that kind of s- to death, we didn't want ...
I can't tell whether it's the amazing TV host, the 80's quality footage, or The Pixies sounding right on point that makes these clips so amazing...
If you were feeling bummed about the end of summer upon us...STOP. Summer just got extended today with the release of Your Youth's debut EP Aloha [Gigantic]. These kids from Brooklyn have crafted the perfect summer jam. In their words, "It's basically about feeling dusted about crushing on someone for a night. The moment the [...]

Harlem Shakes Technicolor Health (2009, Gigantic) RIYL = The Shins, The Evangelicals, A bright, hook infused pop band with well written lyrics and the sweet, pure sound of hope. Dash it all, they've imploded and are no longer. But this remains: Technicolor Health , a perfect indie rock/pop album on par with the "life changing" stylings of a band like The Shins. My FG compatriots seem to think that Technicolor Health was killed by overly active blog hype, but I never noticed any of that. Maybe that's [...]
Yesterday Thrill Jockey announced that they are making the Tortoise track "Ice Ice Gravy" available for download for $1.00 from Fina- their online download service. To date, "Ice Ice Gravy" was only available in the U.S. as part of the iTunes version of Beacons of Ancestorship . Outside the U.S. it is available as a bonus track on the Japanese pressing of Beacons of Ancestorship as well as what appears to be a Japanese tour EP release in May titled Why Waste Time? According to Dan Bitney in [...]
Get 16 insanely talented New York writers and musicians around the same camp fire and you can bet some great stories will come out. On this particular evening at Matchless in Brooklyn, the stories were intentionally three minutes long, and generally about rock 'n' roll. The best thing about a reading like this one is that the language of the rock 'n' roll story; it's one that we are all familiar with, in a folk kind of way. Jens Cartensen spoke of an eyewitness account of tampon in Perry Farrell's ass, while Derek Evers told of [...]

The Miserable Rich are ones to watch in 2010. Here, NEN chattered to frontman James de Malplaquet in the noisiest pub corridor ever for an interview about their past, present and future... NEN: How did you guys meet? James: Mostly through a band called Shoreline. Actually, that's not true. I started doing a solo project called James Grape which was an electronic thing. Someone wanted to release it on a Brighton record label called Skint, and then I was asked to form a live band. I [...]

The Walkmen You & Me (Gigantic Music, 2008) I haven't really listened to much of The Walkmen since they broke onto the indie rock landscape earlier this decade, but somehow I was found by 2008's You & Me and it left me utterly smitten. The album lets off an air of nonchalant coolness that is pretty much unparalleled on this list. The husky bass, murky guitars, Leithauser's wale; You & Me is late night alcohol rock for the perfectly contented. -Thistle

Remember when I said that We All Have Hooks For Hands came and played in my apartment? Here are some photos (above & after the jump) taken by Cop Magnet and the band, way sweet videos coming soon! We All Have Hooks For Hands - Elvis "MF" Christ Unrelated, I just watched Gigantic on Cameron's instant Netflix account (thanks for the password, dude) and although the entire film was cute, warm, and full of heart-wrenching Zooey Deschanel moments I've gotta give huge props to the [...]
