Frank Yang The demise - for this year, at least - of Toronto's Virgin Festival had one positive side effect, in that the corporate title sponsor found themselves with some budget to spend on a music event and nowhere to throw it... and so they threw it at NXNE . This not only gave the festival the means to land a bona fide, big time headliner to build things around, but they were able to present said act for free on a big stage in the heart of the city. No question, [...]

a look at The Gin Riots, they are one of the hottest bands coming out of the UK. The London band is riding some solid buzz with their new single "The Polka' and for good reason. The song has a lot of energy, and demonstrates what this band can do. The band named themselves after the longest and hardest drinking session in living memory. They describe themselves on their myspace as a disparate bunch of boys who came together make music to get drunk to. Sounds like a good band to me! They made some decent buzz at [...]

I've been following this band on twitter for awhile now, and it's damn time to get them over here on Love Shack, Baby! The Gin Riots have released a single, The Polka and it's a right catchy little number. People are comparing them to all sorts of New Wave, punk and post-punk bands. You know I hate saying this band is like band x and a bit of band y! So, just listen to this and tell me what YOU think. They claim to make music to drink to, ha! [...]
THE PLAYLIST THAT BRINGS INNER PEACE... Welcome one and all, to the fourth installment of the playlist that brings more inner peace than a bag full of Buddha shaped kittens. Every minute of every hour of every day, in the offices, workshops and even the corridors of Zen Avenue, Winston's legion of intensively trained "indie monkeys" scour the indieweb for sizzling new talent. Leaving their

There are songs that make you feel better, others that help you relax, some can even channel your anger.. but there are always those songs like "Polka" that almost justify starting your own riot, not in the heavy grindy rock "Lets break stuff up" sense, but more on the lines of getting drunk with your best friends and throw a party! " The song well represents the up-beat punkish nature of The Gin Riots , who are named after the 1729 riots caused by overly upset and drunk Londoners that broke into a Gin Factory to leave [...]

by Miguel Banuelos As February is traditionally all about love, we figured this month we would focus on three things we love: Lily Allen, SXSW and old movies. On with the show… Let's start with the fact that we are so happy to have Lily Allen back, both musically and personally. She's an all-time AEC fave, and with last week's release of It's Not Me, It's You , she's cemented her status with us. Miss Allen played her first stateside show last [...]

If the Libertines and Arctic Monkeys bred, South London's The Gin Riots would be the offspring. The band write clever little catchy tunes which sit well with some cracking drums and bass guitar. I have yet to catch them live, but I'm reliably informed that they deliver a tight fun set. Lyrically they deliver a fitting social commentary on 2007 life and love in the UK. I hope you enjoy them...I definitely feel they are one of the better bands I have come across recently. MP3 : The Gin Riots - "El Torro" [...]
