A few nights back at the 40 Watt, after playing their LP Edible Orchids in its entirety, the band played a second set of more recent material, which was equally strong. The songs above are from the aformentioned LP. Enjoy!

Release Date: 11.16.07 The Ginger Envelope, affiliated with a variety of notable Athens bands (Dark Meat, Venice is Sinking), have carved a welcome niche in the Athens music scene with their debut full-length, Edible Orchids . Matt Stoessel (who has also worked with Centro-matic, Summer Hymns, and Don Chambers' GOAT) shines on pedal steel, complimented beautifully by Patrick Carey's distinctly effortless vocal delivery. The opening tracks, "Care Take Her" and "Failsafe," are instantly inviting, leading into an album pleasantly reminiscent of the shimmery pop of Masters of the Hemisphere or the folk-tinged melodies [...]

Over the years, my idea of a "headphone album" has changed considerably. In high school, I was looking for Redman to explode out of my yellow, tinny, Sony headphones. I'd play it as loud as poosible, letting everyone know I was "down." I gradually moved into punk rock, but essentially the draw was the same. Now, I'm old and tired. Instead of volume, I look for records that use subtle flourishes and instrumentation that moves at a pace more like my own. When I first tried to listen to the new Ginger Envelope record - Edible [...]

If you are anything like me, you are constantly on the lookout for some good music. I read music magazine, music blogs, and head to my local indie store. Of course, there are those circle of friends that are always trying to beat me to the punch to find the next best thing. Well, I believe that the following songs are worth talking about. Take a listen and see if you agree. Kate Walsh Your Song Don't Break My Heart [...]
Arcade Fire discuss the bitter taste of success (The Guardian) The audience thronging Randall's Island, meanwhile, is conspicuously light on the kind of whey-faced indie-kid blogger whose early support earned Arcade Fire that most noughties of labels, the Internet Phenomenon. Instead, there are baseball caps and shorts and Gap casual wear in profusion: this is very much a mainstream American rock crowd. Oink Founder: We're just like Google (The Daily Telegraph) "I haven't done [...]

This week has been insanely busy, and I can't wait for Sunday since it will be my first day off in the last few weeks. I think I'll do nothing but lay on the couch and watch football all day and into the night. Also, I'll eat a lot. You should do the same regardless if you've had any time off in lately. Similar to me, my inbox has been working overtime and because of that it's got more music in it than I know what to do with, so here's an EP. [...]
