Last weekend was my grandmother's Celebration of Life. It would have been her 92nd birthday. We all had margaritas (it was also Cinco de Mayo; I had three) and told funny stories about her life. It was a blast, a good closure and celebration to a woman who meant a lot to a lot of people. Upon returning on Monday, I took a trip out to Anacortes and The Business, picking up the new Cloud Nothings LP, Attack On Memory , which served as inspiration for tonight's show. [...]

I've been feeling really nostalgic lately about my Emo days in high school and college so I thought the hottest Austin emo band Mineral would be a solid choice for our From the Closet. Mineral were only around for about 4 years and only put out two full LPs, both of which superb additions to the then trendy Emo genre. After their break up in 1998, Chris Simpson went on to form The Gloria Record and now fronts the Austin folk-pop band Zookeeper . The song I've got for you is "& Serenading" which appears [...]

Even though the band is no more, that doesn't mean I can't rejoice at having a copy of Ides Of Space's long lost sophomore LP - Sleeping Fractures . Ides Of Space was an Australian 5 piece who toured the U.S. on their debut release with The Gloria Record and Her Space Holiday . The album was released recently after the dissolution of the band by Better Looking Records, a follow up to 2001's There Are No New Clouds , which had only been released in Japan. Their debut LP [...]

Oh my god, I haven't gotten dressed in three days. Three days! I feel somewhat uninspired, too, although that's because of more than just being sick. But being sick doesn't help, that's for certain. Anyway, there's not much to report. Well, I take that back, there's lots to report--I just don't have the energy or wherewithal to do it! Hopefully in the next couple of days I'll feel recharged. Have a great weekend, everyone. The Marches -- [...]

The Gloria Record The Gloria Record EP (Crank) Price: S$2.95 It's really nice to buy back something you lost. Like this EP from The Gloria Record. It's not like I like it much to begin with but there's a sense of dignity that comes from reclaiming what you've lost. Like the other day I was proud to reclaim back that sexy cashier from the supermarket I lost. Sure, she slapped me when I offered her money to 'be mine' again but I only see that as her effort [...]

A lot of bloggers post Holiday/Christmas mixes around this time, but since I've already been down that road before and over the weekend my hometown got about 8 inches of snow, I've decided to make a mix that evokes that wintry feeling. All of the songs on this mix in some way remind me of winter, snow on the ground, icicles, chestnuts roasting by an open fire, all that good stuff. For some reason that translates to distant guitar, synths, reverberation, bells, songs with "snow" in the title, all of which play a part in this mix. I [...]

After months of speculation it has happened: The Ultramod Compound was demolished. Apparently it happened sometime over the past weekend. I got a call from my former roommate Tony Evans ( Garbage Island ) Tuesday afternoon telling me about it. I ran shows there from 1996-2003 and then the other guys in the house continued the theme but with more local bands and fewer touring bands. Previous to my living there the guys in Ceiling Fan (R.I.P) had started the phenomenon by throwing [...]

I was born in Omaha In my mother's tired arms After all our fight was gone I bet it felt good just to lie there Drinking the warm lights And breathing through the tubes As our lovers filled the room with conversation I was named to bear you like A float in a parade My piano fingers tugging at the chord [...]
