Earthworm – The Statics I saw these guys the other night and loved it. This was always guaranteed to be the case, seeing as they're headed by the legendary Patrick Clayton (affectionately known as the K-man), but I was doubly impressed when they turned up and played some great music. This song is a REALLY old demo off their myspace, but it still gives a good idea of what to expect. The Taste In My Mouth – Shapes and Sizes I don't know what it is about this [...]

I'm not kidding, but last Saturday I managed to get every single passenger on a double-decker bus to sing along to the Go-Betweens' "Lee Remick". Yes, alright...every single passenger really means Simon and myself, and the track itself has been posted here before, but it's such a stunning song it deserves a second post, especially with its newly uncovered partner. The Go-Betweens :: Lee Remick [mp3] Phil Wilson :: Lee Remick [mp3] Yes, that's Mr. Phil Wilson from the June Brides, and his cover just happens to [...]
Stage Setting The Go-Betweens, Wait Until June. Hall and Oates, Wait For Me. The Banana Splits, Wait Till Tomorrow. Well, I'm still in the process of slowly assembling the first of this summer's theme posts, which should be ready to go up sometime next week. Or so I told my foreman. Still lots of logistical decisions to make--where to put the dancing bears? the quartet of camels? the

So, this is goodbye, at least for a fair bit. I'm taking tomorrow for myself, and then I'll spend the next handful of days with my family before flying to London on Thursday. If there aren't any major complications with that part, I'll be tucked in my new home on Friday...but I expect that Simon and I will have some, um, catching up to do over the weekend. Business should resume as normal week after next and thanks again from both of us for all the well-wishes. Since I'll have a fairly lengthy absence, I'm giving you my [...]

Enik offers up five songs sure to brighten your corners. Featured artists: Neil Finn, The Go-Betweens, Ben Kweller, Ted Leo & The Pharmacists, and Ride.

Well, we haven't run out of ideas yet. But we're starting to. Surprisingly, Lee Remick has been the subject of more than one song by indie bands (or not so surprisingly, really, given the fetishization of actresses from a certain era in that world. See also: Julie Christie). Almost three songs were written about her (one is a cover, which half-counts). In an attempt to quell the babbling we're wont to slip into, we shall say no more. Enjoy: The Go-Betweens - Lee Remick The song that came first. [...]

As we close the year, it is time to remember those we lost. Grant McLennan of The Go-Betweens left us too soon on May 6th 2006, but his music legacy will remain forever and 16 Lovers Lane one of my all-time favourite records. MP3: Bye Bye Pride (Live in London June 2004) Buy: 16 Lovers Lane

In this post I'll re-post some of the songs I've mentioned before in the blog or simply some of the stuff I've found that I find interesting, but have no time to write about. None of the songs are hosted by Myspace, which quickly is turning into a crappy service! IT WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED IF YOU'D CHECK OUT THE REST OF THIS BLOG, ONCE YOU'VE DOWNLOADED THE SONGS YOU WANT..... + Aberdeen City - God Is Going To Get Sick Of Me + [...]

Been Gone, So much to Tell You! Two things before I begin, THIS will never stop amusing the hell out of me. His 60-year-old man chest, the whinnying horses, the gunshots... qu'est-ce que sexy? And this lil funny thing from Eugene Mirman is comic gold . He has a new Sunday night show at Union Hall ! Oh Eugene, you're keeping it real in Brooklyn. How I do heart you! ///////// [...]

The tragic death of Go-Betweens co-founder Grant McLennan sent tragic soundwaves throughout the music industry. It was especially tragic in McLennan's native country, Australia. His unexpected heart attack at the age of 48 touched many musicians personally. Prior to his death, McLennan had been collaborating with Steve Kilbey, who was the frontman for The Church, another successful Australian band who have been very consistent in releasing solid albums since 1980. Their style of enjoyably catchy jangle-pop have often put them in the same category as McLennan's Go-Betweens. After setting off some musical sparks, McLennan and Kilbey decided to collaborate and [...]

A quickie today: The Go-Betweens were one of those college-rock-y bands you used to see here and there on MTV’s “120 Minutes†ten minutes before 2 a.m. The Australian band was led by songwriters Robert Forster and Grant McLennan, and released a stream of albums until they broke up in 1989, only to reform in 2000. Unfortunately, McLennan died fairly recently. Back in the 80s, I’d see a video of theirs every so often, but nothing really grabbed me until I saw “Right Here,†a cute song with an equally cute (and sometimes disturbing!) video. [...]
The long and short of it is that I've made you a summer mix tape. I woke up all excited for a nice summer day of tennis and bbq and things like that. Then the sun went away, the grey came in and the rain started. There will be no tennis today. There will be no bbq today. And so I find myself with some extra time on my hands. And that's the story of the radnauseum summer mix tape.... mix mp3 collection... whatever. Plus... to make things [...]
