Check out this cool edit of Trouble Funk from Sloppy Seconds and this nice short edit of Sardines. Being from the DC area means I got that Go-Go rhythm in my bones, and it was a sweet surprise to find some nice edits up here in Soundcloud. Now it's my turn to get busy on some Go-Go edits for my upcoming edits EP. Trouble Funk "Trouble Funk Express" Sloppy Seconds Extension by Sloppy Seconds MP3 [...]

How much more? - The Go-Go's This song, as with so much new wave, is of a tempo, a beat, a secure, sunny way of looking at the world (regardless of the sometimes crestfallen and desperate songmatter), infectious and communal, so perfect and so conducive to dancing. Dancing. I can picture the kids, their positions in relation to one another, their moves, the concentration of their eyes, their clothes, their shoes. I can see it all. Sometimes i wish i grew up in the [...]

One of the record stores at which I worked was immense - we stocked upwards of 90,000 CDs and had several different listening environments. (the classical room was an excellent place to hideout and - on at least one occasion for a co-worker - provide a nook for a nap) Most of the store was arranged in sections by genres that would be familiar to most folks who have spent time in a record store. (back when they existed) But, our store had one section, created at the discretion and insistence of [...]

Currently receiving repeat rotation at L'Amour Electronique HQ is this amazing French-Canadian porn soundtrack from 1969. I discovered Valérie recently over at Psyquébélique . It seems it is one of those "lost" soundtracks, and has never been officially released. Together with Otis Fodder and S.Ébastien at Patrimoine PQ , Simon Psyquébélique has ripped the soundtrack direct from the DVD, complete with sound-effects and snippets of dialogue, and with some sleek artwork based on the original movie poster. [...]

Some people seem to spring from their mama’s wombs with briefcase, toque or tuba in hand. For the rest of us, destiny doesn’t manifest itself so specifically. Take my favorite dairy purveyor, Douglas Quint. For 20 years, the man tirelessly (and thanklessly!) devoted himself to the grubby life of an itinerant musician, sans the street cred. A bassoonist trained at the hoity Manhattan School of Music and the toity Juilliard School, Douglas tooted away with the likes of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra and the woodwind quintet, Zephyros Winds. Until he [...]

Filed under: News , Exclusive , Book Club www.arnoldpix.com Jane Wiedlin is a lifelong fan of science fiction -- she's even appeared in ' Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home ' and ' Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure .' So, when artist Bill Morrison asked the Go-Gos guitarist and singer to collaborate on a comic book, she jumped at the opportunity. The result is ' Lady Robotika ,' a recently published sci-fi comic book starring Wiedlin [...]

Filed under: News , Exclusive , Politics as Usual www.arnoldpix.com Last week, California's Proposition 8, which bans same-sex marriage, was overturned by a federal judge . Jane Wiedlin , the Go-Go's rhythm guitarist/singer and an ordained minister who officiates weddings as Reverend Sister Go-Go, couldn't be happier about the news. "I was thrilled and relieved," she tells Spinner of her reaction. "Anyone who still feels justified denying rights to other humans, I need [...]
Filed under: Spinner Interview Bruce Glikas, FilmMagic Belinda Carlisle can look back on March 14, 2005 . It was on that date when, after locking herself in a hotel room in London on the eve of a tour, she concluded her three-day cocaine binge and promised she was quitting drugs. As she would later write in her recently published memoir, 'Lips Unsealed,' Carlisle had a vision that she would be discovered in her [...]

Love hurts, but it still makes the great world spin. That’s the message of Crazy for You , the debut album by Best Coast , a Los Angeles duo who kicked off their summer tour yesterday at the Pitchfork Music Festival . The record, which drops next week, opens with singer Bethany Cosentino's declaration “I wish he was my boyfriend” and ends with the repeated assertion “I hate sleeping alone.” In between, Crazy for You is filled with crushes and unrequited love, often to the point of obsession. Best [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Exclusive , Movies In her recent memoir 'Lips Unsealed,' Go-Go's singer Belinda Carlisle revealed a little-known fact from the band's history: Back in 1997, the group was in discussion with producers Ted and Amanda Demme on making a biographical movie about the famous girl band. Carlisle wrote that she pictured either Christina Ricci or Drew Barrymore portraying her in the film. However, the project was later shelved. So with the [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News As previously reported , Lilith Fair has been experiencing slow ticket sales. Now it seems that the situation has gotten so bad that the all-female music festival has officially canceled its shows in Nashville and Phoenix. Not only have dates been slashed, but some of the acts have also backed out of their sets. Norah Jones , who was scheduled to play five shows during tour's last leg in August, will no longer be performing, according to Canada's [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , New Music , Exclusive Unfortunately, the Go-Go's aren't getting the proper end to a 32-year career that they had expected. Their guitarist, Jane Wiedlin , was recently involved in a hiking accident that not only resulted in having her knee to be surgically repaired, but also the canceled the start of the band's Happily Ever After farewell tour. The disappointment could be heard in bassist Kathy Valentine's voice after the announcement about the tour was made. [...]

While traditional print media seems slowly to be going the way of the 8-track, we're happy to note that Spin Magazine is in the midst of celebrating its 25th Anniversary. As a way of celebrating the milestone, the influential music mag, which has seen its ups and downs over the years, has announced that they will be curating a series of live music shows that will take place from July 26 - 30 in the mag's hometown of New York City. The music marathon, which totals [...]

This week, the sometimes sweet, sometimes strange winds of music news blow some exciting tidings our way as well as an aggravating announcement. Both the upside and the downside of the happenings in the W/F spotlight this time concern artists who first came to fame in the '80s, one who's being excellently anthologized, and one whose swan song has been unpleasantly interrupted. Wail: Daniel Johnston Box Set Coming The early recordings that helped Daniel Johnston become a legend of "outsider music" have been gathered [...]
It's always sad when a great band decides to hang up their axes and call it a day. Even with a farewell tour, it's a sad sight to see any group leave the rock and roll arena. What's even more sad than that is when a band doesn't even get a chance to say goodbye. Such is the case now with The Go-Gos and their Happily Ever After – The Farewell Tour . Thanks to some extracurricular activity, guitarist Jane Wiedlin is sidelined with an injury . [...]

The summer concert season is upon us and the Hidden Track staff know that it’s virtually impossible for us to afford every show we want to hit, and still be able to pay our insanely expensive New York City rents. Luckily for us, there are a plethora of fantastic free concerts throughout the summer that don’t cost a dime. We decided to weed through all the listings and present to you our 3rd Annual NYC Free Summer Concert Picks. Let’s take a look… HT Recommends: She & [...]

Last fall, Levon Helm , the former drummer for The Band, was forced into vocal rest after doctors found a non-cancerous lesion on his vocal chords. While the docs kept us from hearing his iconic and instantly recognizable voice, that didn't keep the soon to be 70-year old from occupying his perch behind the drum kit during the frequent Rambles at his home recording studio known as The Barn and occasionally taking the show on the road. Now fully recovered and ready to sing again, Helm has lined up an lengthy summer tour that includes [...]
