CL got it right. It is a cluster in town this weekend. Why didn't I plan to get out of town? Maybe cuz there might be something worth seeing here tonight. Three local bands at three local joints. We're pleased to co-sponsor a free show featuring two of Atlanta's finest "unknown" singer-songwriters: Alex Brenner and Kim Ware. You might know Alex as the author of many of our record reviews, but when he's not writing for us or fighting crime, he writes and performs as Swing Set. He's been working on [...]
The ides of March is supposed to the fifteenth (which is why our book club is reading Fool this month). However, the crazy stuff seems to be happening to us on the 5th. First, we were supposed to go out and see Orange Twin Record's Madeline at the 529 and that show was [...]
![The Good Graces: Bring On The Tambourines! [Album Review]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2287190_lg.jpg)
For some of us out there, The Good Graces might be the greatest fucking band in the world! For every flannel wearing, soul searching, obsessive coffee drinking fool (myself included), Kim Ware and company have created a "bomb" tribute to happy times during misery. That, and more specifically, the 1990's. It's getting to that time in our lives where the end of the last millennium needs to have a properly built sense of nostalgia amongst the middle aged and dying. And Bring On The Tambourines! is a beautiful [...]

The Good Graces was formed in early 2007 when Kim Ware, founder of Eskimo Kiss Records, picked up a $90 guitar from Atlanta's late great Lakewood Antiques Market and started fiddling around with some simple chords and melodies. It wasn't long before those simple chords and melodies turned into catchy, heartfelt indiepop tunes. Having been through a tumultous divorce just three years prior, failed relationships were on her mind. She began exploring themes of heartache and hope, while both relecting on the past and looking forward to a happy future. The songs came very easily, so much that many of [...]

Our mail bag has overflowed with new tunes this month. Out of procrastination excuses and with the e-mail piling up, we took a deep breath, steadied our nerves and went postal. To our surprise there's some really good stuff in there. A few of these artists we already knew about, but many are flying below the radar. From now one, we'll make it a regular feature to share the mailbag goods. Check out the tracks below and let us know who you like, so can get more material on them in the future. [...]

I had an mp3 drop into my mailbox from a little band out of Atlanta, GA called The Good Graces. "Bad Driver" reminded me of the small quirky tales Gordon Gano from the Violent Femmes used to tell. There's a little early Liz Phair in there too as well. It's entertaining, I promise. The [...]

The Good Graces-pretty new song 128 KbpsBased on the songs that comprised "Sunset Over Saxapahaw," last year's debut release from The Good Graces, one might not expect Kim Ware (tGG principal songwriter) to follow just a year later with a fun, lighthearted record. In fact, she wouldn't have expected it herself. "I once took a personality test that said I was 'drawn to sad things'," she explains.

Today's Radio Dick is shot straight from the hip from a busy guy in Cleveland. In the world of high school education, nothing spells "important" like the magical and enchanting homecoming dance. In American education, not one single night of the entire school year involves so much preparation for such little return profit. Kids spend hours determining hairstyles, attire, dates and venue decorations, all for an anticlimactic three hour rumble in the school cafeteria. Sometimes it's important for me to think backwards and try my hardest to remember what it was like being a teenager. This always fails miserably, and [...]

Ume "The Conductor" Saw Austin's Ume earlier this year in an opening slot for a re-formed Polvo show and this band grabbed everyone's attention with their low-key demeanor, but fast and nasty garage-punk led by Lauren Larson. Their EP, Sunshower is getting a vinyl release next week. Good Graces: "Pretty New Song" Kim Ware of Atlanta's The Good Graces . Their [...]
