Filed under: News , Video , Exclusive , Movies At first glance, the film ' Don't Quit Your Daydream ' may appear to be a just another documentary about another small-time band living in a lonely world. This time, it's the Good Listeners from Portland, Ore., whose biggest claim to fame, thus far, has been their involvement with the ' Devil Wears Prada ' soundtrack. Naturally, those unfamiliar with the band may not feel a burning desire or need to watch [...]

The Good Listeners have made three albums of good listening, but the Los Angeles duo — Clark Stiles and Nathan Khyber — have always been as much about the process as the product. Their debut "Ojai" was written and recorded , one song per day, at a small house in that town; their second album "Crane Point Lodge" was made amid ghosts and isolation in remote upstate New York. For their third, Stiles and Khyber tried something even more unusual: Toting their recording studio cross-country in a rented RV, the duo over the course of 24 [...]
[Tip of the cap to Jason Mraz on his birthday ...] Top 5 reasons to delay angsting over that "Twilight" premiere: ☛ Did I mention Tuesday how much I liked Stars' new album "The Five Ghosts?" There's not a flavor-of-the-moment whiff to the Canadian indie-poppers' fifth album — just exuberant, well-executed boy-girl pop that has a timeless quality. That's their video for "Fixed," above. And Tuesday they released a free song via RCRDLBL.com [ "We Don't Want Your Body" ]. Tonight they do the [...]

It's Fresh from the Post, the late edition. Due to an unforseen multiplication table breakdown with one of our resident indie music experts, Fresh from the Post comes to you on Wednesday instead of Tuesday this week. As they say, the best things come later in life. Well actually, I've never really heard that quote before, but it sure sounds good and suits our needs for the moment. But really, we've got something great for this week's Fresh from the Post, in the form of experimental pop/rock musicians - The Good Listeners . [...]

Portland, OR band the Good Listeners took to making their third record, Don't Quit Your Daydream , on the road: 11 tracks in 12 cities over 24 days. Over the course of recording and playing with a different musician nearly every day, the band filmed a documentary about trying to make a living while pursuing their musical aspirations (watch the trailer here). One of the best songs off the album is the ethereal "Can't Be Held"—a slowly forming haze of quiet electronic rumbling and acoustic guitars centering around a clean-toned guitar riff. [...]

Ah winter...how I hate thee. Here I am sitting in Florida and the temperature is hovering somewhere around 40 degrees and there are talks of snow flurries overnight. It's thrown the area where I live into a panic because a) there is only one truck to clear roadways here b) downtown will be shutdown because of the bridges and ice c) no one knows what to do. I have to admit having been born in a subtropical climate...I hate the very idea of snow. Anyway, all this fantastic weather will give you time to download and listen to [...]

It's one of those nights to rekindle old friendships. The Good Listeners [pictured], the L.A. duo of Nathan Khyber and Clark Stiles, just released their third album, "Don't Quit Your Daydream," a record conceived on the road and to be accompanied by a documentary about two musicians who travel the country in an RV. I took an immediate shine to the duo's first album, "Ojai," back in the day and the follow-up "Crane's Point Lodge" was great too. Tonight they are joined by Grand Hallway , Cave Country and Buddy at [...]

Another edition of Resonance was brought on today by a complete pancake flip of feelings. Things went from ice cream to shit stream pretty quickly and the songs below really represent that switch quite well for me. Feelings of confusion and walking into immovable barriers come about when referring to the feelings that rushed me, oh so suddenly, tonight. I sincerely hope nobody feels the same way at the moment, but if by chance someone does, maybe these will help. The first track of this Resonance is a track I would usually just ignore. [...]

[Birthday cheers go out Sunday to Donovan, and I hope this abbreviated rundown isn't too late to inform your weekend plans:] Tonight: Grand Duchy , the musical collaboration between Black Francis and his wife Violet Clark, hits the Detroit Bar tonight behind last month's release of its debut "Petit Fours," a collection of endearingly off-kilter synth-pop. ... Huge benefit at Club Nokia tonight — the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Anthony Kiedis will be feted for his charity work, with the proceeds going to the [...]

I caught The Good Listeners live back in February before I knew anything about them. I was in luck to find another great band. Over the course of the last 5 months I was able to get a hold of the album and love it. Its a simply beautiful album. Complete with ambient forest sounds of birds and wind... hence Crane Point Lodge. The amazing thing is, Nathan Khyber and Clark Stiles started The Good Listeners in spring of 2006. They are a bit of a young band yet already have two albums under [...]
So once upon a time I tried to get this awesome club night called " Indie Schmindie! " off the ground. We found a home at Little Pedro's downtown. Awesome venue, great crowd, some really tremendous bands, and a lot of promise. Unfortunately at the time the venue was going through a changing of the guard (it's now called the Bordello . The Fold will be booking events there) and we were left homeless. All that changes this week. I am please to announce the triumphant return [...]

Rock Insider Reservoir Mix #2 Some people when faced with stressful situations bake cookies to ease the tension. I make mix tapes. It's a coping mechanism I know I share with more than a few people . I was having a moobie day so I decided to create the 2nd installment in my Rock insider Reservoir Series. The Rock Insider Reservoir Series features the best new music from Los Angeles' Eastside club scene (Hollywood, Los Feliz, Silver Lake, Echo Park, Downtown). This monthly mixtape reflects the [...]
