Mr. Jonathan Leather (if that is his real name) is throwing a little birthday party at Union Hall on Saturday night ( October 4 ) with Motel Motel , The Go Station , Intermissions (ex Bling Kong), and Tropic of Nelson . Though it is a party (and I was told there would be cake), the proceeds from the show will go towards the Jiamani Scholarship Fund , which provides educational resources for Tanzanian children, so your $10 is going to a good cause.

Motel Motel have received some excellent press lately, and on Saturday they headline a benefit concert at Union Hall . The concert benefits the Jiamini Fund which provides scholarships for Tanzania students. Also on the bill are The Go Station , Intermissions (former member of Bling Kong ) and Tropic of Nelson . The GoStation cover lost Oasis track "See The Sun" NY's The GoStation have posted their cover of Oasis' " See The Sun ", a track among the first batch of Oasis demos from 1992 which was never given a proper studio outing, and has remained available only through bootleged versions of what have become know as the band's " Lost Tapes ." The GoStation incorporated the track into their live sets early on, eventually recording their updated version with the intent [...]
(No Ratings Yet) Loading ...

I'm so far behind, this is for last Tuesday. Too much interesting stuff to investigate... Top New Releases 9/25/07: [LOCAL] Devendra Banhart : Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon (XL) – When I see this guy out he seems like a super nice and friendly cat. Then when I see him in photos in Indian headdress or sequin bikinis on the splash page of Myspace I think WTF. He's managed by Neil Young's manager and living the sort of idealized hippie existence in Topanga. I know [...]

Well, it's finally over. The Milwaukee Brewers crapped away their chances at a postseason birth last night with a loss to the San Diego Padres and a win from the Chicago Cubs. It looks like my prediction that the Brew Crew would make the playoffs didn't hold true - but then again, I severely underestimated their ability to crap away the NL Central lead in such haste. On the bright side, the team is young and loaded and should be a favorite to compete for the NL Central or at least a wild card spot next year if [...]

Stars - credit This week was hell at school for me, but I still wanted to write about some of the great new releases that came out. This week featured a fair amount of folk/indie rock, but it really had a large amount of good music in general. Probably the biggest release of the week was from Iron & Wine , with a CD titled The Shepard's Dog . For Sam Beam's newest CD, he went with a full band and a full sound. Getting more popular as the days go [...]

This week's edition of The Daily Graboid comes in a day later than usually expected. Why is this you ask? Well, if you see below, there happens to be an overwhelming amount of quality album releases this week. I woke up yesterday morning to check out the releases lists and all the usual chores I go through when compiling everything and just decided that there was no way to listen to everything and have a post ready by the time I had to go to work. I think this post might have the single most mp3s as far as I [...]

Try it on for size! Sample new releases this week! photo of Devendra Banhart by me It's another wallet-buster of week for new releases, particularly if you're a fan of the indie folk and roots based music. There are reissues out from legendary folkers Pentangle and Karen Dalton and a whole bunch of new releases from artists either considered "new indie folk" or at least influenced by them, like Devendra Banhart, Iron & Wine, Cave Singers, Sir Richard Bishop, Jose Gonzalez, Loney, Dear, Tuung, and Two Gallants. [...]
NYC's The GoStation received critical acclaim on their 2005 EP Quiet Zone and plenty of support from KEXP, K-Rock, XM & Sirius radio, to name a few. Two years after that introduction, The GoStation are finally releasing their first full-length titled Passion Before Function. Produced by Bill Racine (Rogue Wave, The Flaming Lips, Phantom Planet), Passion [...]
There's lots of stuff being planned over here in the Pop Tarts Suck Toasted camp right now! I've been busy planning a celebration for 2-years of blogging that will be announced very shortly, some CMJ business that I'm sure will be popping up on the site in a couple of days, and a new super secret Staten Island project. Keep checking back for info on this stuffy, I guarantee it will be worth it!!! Three Imaginary Girls have a slew of interviews with the bands they hung out with during Bumbershoot. The interviews include Menomena, [...]

If the vast range of artists featured throughout this past decade served as any example, the critics who shunned the Brit-pop explosion of the '90s as nothing more than a stylistic fad continue to be proven wrong with each emerging influenced act. While the glory days of forefathers like Blur and Oasis appear to be fading (though both bands are reportedly working on new material), there are plenty of fresh bands embracing the immediately satisfying style and picking up where the classics left off. Enjoyably enough, this does not apply exclusively to British bands; American bands also continue to churn [...]
If you're looking for a band to brag to your friends about before they strike it big, allow me to submit The GoStation for your consideration. I wouldn't venture to call them the "next big thing" in indie rock, but more like actual mainstream alternative rock instead. That may sound like a bad thing, considering the state of mainstream alternative these days (a term that technically contradicts itself, yet somehow applies perfectly), but I think the band would actually contribute something good to the currently suffering alt rock stations around this great country of ours. Simply put, I [...]
The now annual "Fun Fun Fun Fest" in Austin, Texas is taking place on November 3rd and 4th. A stellar lineup has been announced that includes Cat Power and the Dirty Delta Blues, Of Montreal, New Pornographers, Ted Leo, Riverboat Gamblers and many more. Two day passes and other info can be found on the festival's website . PJ Harvey will play at least two U.S. dates this fall. Harvey will play the Beacon Theatre in New York City on October 10th and The Orpheum in Los Angeles on October 15th, with tickets for both shows going [...]

Transporting listeners to a place where melody reigns, cultures clash and combine, and feedback fills the sky, The GoStation is a state of mind as much as a band. Hailing from New York City, this five-piece force is on a musical mission to restore rock to its rightful place — the hearts and minds of the people. Embracing the art of the anthem, The GoStation have willfully eschewed the structureless noise of many of their contemporaries, opting instead for epic compositions marked by masterful guitar interplay, a steady rhythmic punch, and huge sing-along choruses. Calling to [...]

The GoStation are releasing their debut album Passion Before Function on September 25th on Edge Delay Records. The album was produced by Bill Racine (Rogue Wave, Mates of State, the Flaming Lips). "Good things are going to be happening for The GoStation, I have no doubt. If not, there's something wrong in the world." - John Richards, KEXP GoStation on MySpace Passion Before Function tracklisting : 1. All Together Now 2. Twin Six 3. Not Enough 4. Down Street 5. C'mon 6. Battle Lines [...]
