I lost my phone, I lost my pen, I spent a fortnight without constant internet access. I should do that more often. My phone, who cares, right? I'm tempted to not replace it. Just forget the whole thing. I didn't have that phone very long. The one before, I'd had since coming out to Vancouver in August, 2006. It was an artifact. All it did was send and receive phonecalls and texts. Its ringtone was " Milkshake ". I had a lot of people's numbers in there. That phone was destroyed two months ago. I couldn't retrieve the numbers. Its [...]
Words By Dr Hip-Hop | @DrHipHop85 The last time DC Comics had a major television series on The CW, it was the initially lauded but eventually lampooned Smallvile. This series, loosely [...] The post Why You Should Be Watching The CW's New Series "Arrow" appeared first on The Smoking Section .
CW's Arrow follows the Smallville blueprint of examining the early days of a DC superhero. Only, instead of Superman, we're are treated to the early days of Oliver Queen and his alter-ego The Green Arrow. I checked out the pilot and was actually pretty impressed with the show. Admittedly, my expectations were really low, but overall there was a fairly compelling story line set up, decent action, and some really interesting pieces that could carry Arrow for a few seasons. It doesn't feel like priority watching, but it's certainly in my [...]

Green Arrows Music Written by Benjamin High ALBUM REVIEW: Benjamin High's Green Arrows record Matters is pure like salt. The music and lyrics can melt the ice off young and old hearts in it's simplicity, confidence and cadent delivery. Ben was a regular young man. He played video games, listened and wrote music with his friends. His pal Joe D'Agostino even tattooed a simple note on his right wrist "1,2.33 which is a song on this incredible record to remind him of those halcyon days. See Ben even had a stint in a [...]
This older promo picture is pretty cool, like most promo pictures for Smallville, but it suffers from the same affliction as the show: all flash no substance. The latest cool promo picture is at the end of the post, but first let us look at exactly what Smallville is (and try to figure out how [...]

Green Arrows - The Towering Inferno Inspired by the film. Best flubbed guitar note at 1:02.
photo by Matthew Craig I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: “It was the sound of post-independence Nigeria, not Vampire Weekend.” Suffice it to say that Afrobeat has become an increasingly prominent element in today’s fusion music. Yet we seldom stop to think where these unique tones originated. So this compilation marks the beginning of a series dedicated to investigating the peaks and troughs of a glossed-over genre. After all, no musical victory is without its unsung heroes. Various Artists - "Advanced Afrobeat For Beginners Volume [...]

Before copyright scholars and trademark lawyers got their mitts on those old Parliament twelve-inches, the world of sampling was like the wild West, with outlaw heroes Hank Shocklee and Prince Paul ransacking their vinyl archives and schooling us listeners on obscure artists and sounds. Back then, Jessica Simpson could have sampled Madonna's "Holiday," instead of just barely rewriting it . Because Idolator misses those spot-the-steal days--and because we often hear songs that would make for a good source--we're happy to introduce "Sample Sale." Every week, we'll post a great lost cut, and let [...]
