'Like a lesbian, nigga, I be down with the strap' Ohmygod Based God. You can fuck my bitch. drink the kool aid:
Classical + bluegrass = a truly amazing album.

The members of The Greencards are 50% Australian, 50% American but the music they make is 100% newgrass. It's the band itself that call their style “newgrass” and, in my opinion, they have created a mix of bluegrass and folk with americana and modern outlawish country in the same landscape as Australian Kasey Chambers. And being a fan of Kasey Chambers, the similarities in sound is what initially drew me to this album. Carol Young (vocals) and Kym Warner (bass) from Australia are in cahoots with the fiddle-playing Tyler Andal from Tennessee and string virtuoso Carl Miner on [...]

The Brick Album is the fifth from The Greencards , the four-piece blue/new grass band are headed up by Australians Carol Young and Kym Warner, who have recently recruited two new members to the group, Tyler Andal, (fiddle) and Carl Miner (guitar), the album is released on the bands own label and was financed by themselves with a little help from their fans, who purchased a brick and got their names printed on the album sleeve and of course a pre-release copy of the album. The albums features guest appearances from notables Sam Bush and Vince [...]

[Birthday shout-outs today to the legendary Robbie Robertson, local rocker Andy Siara and blogger-in-arms Justin Gage/Aquarium Drunkard ...] If the schedule seems a bit light tonight, don't worry. By the end of the week, you'll be crushed: ► Nashville-based quartet the Greencards — with their fifth installment of "newgrass," titled "The Brick Album," just released — visit the Mint. Tennessee-bred fiddler Tyler Andal and flatpicking whiz Carl Miner have joined Australians Carol Young and Kym Warner in the [...]

Genre-blending Austin-based acoustic string band If you imagine an intersection where the traditions of country and bluegrass meet the inventions of newgrass and the changes that swept through British contemporary folk, you’ll have a sense of the music spun by the Greencards. Their songs feature the tight harmonies of country and bluegrass, the sophistication of jazz, and the pluck of folk. As on 2009’s Fascination , the band traverses numerous styles from song to song, but unlike the contrasting colors of their previous outing, here they explore varying shades [...]
Americana darlings and partial Austinites The Greencards unleash their new one The Brick Album today & celebrate by playing a Waterloo instore tomorrow (6/22). While you're there you might want to pick up a copy of the new one from North Texas indie legends Centro-matic , Candidate Waltz . And really, at this point, why not make a day of it, and head over to Zilker for Blues on the Green (we're still talking about Wednesday 6/22 here, please keep up) for Suzanna Choffel and The Bright Light Social [...]
I apologize for the lateness of the update this weekend. I've been a little ill over the last couple of days. Anyway... I told you about the new record from The Greencards n Wednesday, and I'd like to share a couple of videos from them as well. Here's a live version of the song I shared on Wednesday, "Make it Out West." And here's one from their previous record... And... in a completely unrelated thought... I saw Spamalot this weekend.

Every Wednesday, I feature a brief review of at least one album that has been submitted to me through the ReviewShine website. I have cleverly titled this recurring segment "ReviewShine Wednesday." The Greencards have been a staple of the progressive bluegrass circuit since their debut album Movin' On hit in 2004. Now they're back again with a slightly different look. Fiddler and founding member Eamon McLoughlin recently left the band, leaving mandolinist Kym Warner and bassist Carol Young to release the group's fifth [...]
Australian bluegrass by way of Austin and Nashville.

Americana/folk act The Greencards are from Nashville but have two Australian founding members, which makes for some really interesting music. And since I'm a sucker for musicians with accents, you can bet that I'm already obsessed with their sound. I've been listening to their latest album "Fascination" for the majority of the morning. The Greencards have toured all over North America and tonight are hitting Ashland Coffee & Tea for a performance that will make you fall in love with their music. The Greencards - Fascination

Sarah Jarosz is a fresh-faced young lady from the Texas hill country. At just 19, she's already had the opportunity to not only meet, but create a record with some of her contemporary heroes (although most nearly a generation ahead of her). Because her instrumental reputation precedes her (Sarah plays mandolin, banjo, guitar, and even a toy piano on her album), she was able to employ Tim O'Brien, Chris Thile, and Abigail Washburn as additional musicians/vocalists on her first record. Each of these bluegrass legends offered up a glowing foreword about Sarah, praising not only her playing, but [...]

The inbox is filling up fast with Spring releases, but the unseasonable heat's got me thinking ahead to festival season. How to reconcile these seemingly disparate urges? Why, by featuring new works from a trifecta of femme-voiced artists I've seen at the Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival! Enjoy the tunes, and the change in the weather... The new Sara Watkins is all over the blogs, and it's a killer, albeit with caveats. But this newgrass-lovin' folkie's eyes and ears are first and foremost on nineteen year old [...]
