Sarah Negahdari is making us "bloggers" look bad. After all, the Los Angeles native manages to run her own personal one and front The Happy Hollows at the same time. Talk about time management! Of course, considering the current state of the three-piece outfit, which currently finds itself making music videos, dropping a free EP, and getting ready for a CMJ showcase, the fact that Negahdari still manages to find time to discuss Beverly Hills Chihuahua and her "favorite band of all-time," The Soft Hands , make [...]

Happy Hollows Happy Hollows are an L.A. noise-pop trio that have gotten everyone in Silverlake excited for their take on alt rock. They play a noisy blend of pop that has been gaining a lot of good press. Especially now that they just released a unique widget for fans to download their new EP for free. The catch is you gotta just share it with five of your friends! It continues the "In Rainbows technique of "pay what you want", even if it [...]

A couple of years ago I had become quite smitten with Shoestring Universe , the alt country debut release by NYC's Proud Simon . I've found that their sophomore album Night Of Criminals had taken me a little bit more time to form an attachment to, but now that I have, I feel that it is a significant step up for the band. The album is presented as a concept album of sorts, although the storytelling aspect is kept relatively dubious. According to Brian Keenan's official explanation, the album tells the story of a [...]

Let's put back Nwz Playlist 11 , but let's change it, because the final the last one was censor , if you have not noticed. For all those, recent or old visitors, who have not yet realized that the Nwz Playlist is not just a list of random songs, are not chosen on purpose for you to visit us, as the top of the Elbo or Hypem or something else, because we do not have any commercial benefit , let's explain the reason for its existence. Nwz, as the picture indicates, [...]

LA's The Happy Hollows draw easy comparisons to both Sonic Youth and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs with vocalist Sarah Negahdari's quirky delivery and fuzzy guitar lines and abrupt tempo switches from the deft rhythm section of Charles Mahoney and Chris Hernandez .?? Comparisons aside, however, it's hard to not to be immediately drawn into their infectious rock. The band has decided to release their new The Imaginary EP, which comes out tomorrow in physical format ( Heart Records ), a day early in that old "pay what you want model."?? Check out the widget [...]

photo: Simon Cardoza Californian noise poppers The Happy Hollows just love feedback. Add the over the top slightly out of tune vocals of lead singer Sarah Negahdari and you have another indie college rock band hoping for a place under the sun. Their five track Imaginary EP is being offered as a "free download/pay what you want" as of October 21st. At that price you might want to check them out. They are a mash-up of the Breeders, Sleater-Kinney and Deerhoof. [...]

I just got my grubby mitts on the Soft Hands ' new album, Hours Pass By , that comes out next Tuesday, October 21st on the Long Beach label, Fidotrust Records . My previous experience with the band has been limited to a few mp3s I was able cull from the interwebs and a frighteningly good performance at The Prospector which I documented for the OC Weekly's Heard Mentality blog. It was in that review that I described their sound as a "hyperactive Talking Heads-meets-Wire" and correctly surmised the only three songs that I had [...]

New York sveitin stórgóða mun spila á miðnætti í Hafnarhúsinu á laugardaginn. Fyrir þau ykkar sem eruð enn að púsla kvöldunum saman og hvað skuli sjá, mæli ég eindregið með að þið farið og sjáið þetta magnaða band stíga á stokk. Í raun vil ég ganga svo langt að segja að ef þið ætlið aðeins að sjá eitt atriði á allri hátíðinni þá væru tónleikar Vampire Weekend einmitt það. Hver myndi ekki vilja heyra þá félaga taka eitt af eftirfarandi lögum? [MP3] Vampire Weekend - Ottoman [MP3] Vampire Weekend - M79 [...]
"Lieutenant" - the Happy Hollows I am no fan of indie music that veers too sharply into the DIY camp, as my ears will forever be jarred by sloppiness, however disguised by claims of authenticity or shred guitar prowess. When I first heard "Lieutenant," I was attracted by its left-turn hooks but wary of its seeming disjointedness. For a five-minute song, this one unspools in an unnerving number of directions; it's hard to get a handle on too quickly, and I was not initially convinced that there was any larger sense of purpose [...]
The Happy Hollows The second hour of new music on this week's New Music Hour on Portland's 94.7FM includes Portland musicians Super XX Man and Horse Feathers, a new cut from Mercury Rev and The Happy Hollows. I'm on air with resident DJ Squid every Tuesday and Thursday at 8PM. This is the show from Thursday [...]

It's quite sad, actually, but lately I find I'm setting the bar fairly low for myself and then if I accomplish what little I've set out to do, I feel like a success. My expectations are so meager at this point that nearly anything can be seen as rising above them. For instance, if I manage to make it to the gym, clean up the kitchen, maybe do some laundry and then go to work, I feel like I've had a pretty good day. I'm afraid I've turned into a bit of a slacker. [...]

With the up-coming release of their Imaginary EP, The Happy Hollows probably have more reasons to feel happy than hollow right now. Thanks to their quirky vocals, fuzzy guitars and tempo switches, this L.A. trio sounds like a merge between Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Sonic Youth. Since I'm personally feeling more hollow than happy at the moment though, I'll leave the rest of the introduction the the band members themselves: The Happy Hollows Zoo and Echo Residency Tour Dates [...]

The Happy Hollows are a band out of LA with their digital press promoter, telling fans of Kim Deal, Debbie Harry and Karen O take notice. First and foremost from those 3 comparisons, it’s clear this band is female fronted but are those comparisons fair? The first track Lieutenant starts off with a Yeah Yeah Yeahs esque riff but it’s clear from the outset that Sarah Negahdari’s range in vocals have the potential to top Karen O. It is very Karen O-esque with shouting and bass lines that scream Yeah Yeah Yeahs comparisons. It’s when [...]

I want to kick off New Music Tuesday with a decidedly old record, an expanded re-issue of The Replacements ' Pleased to Meet Me , which I now own on CD for the first time, some 21 years after its initial release on Sire Records. About a year ago, Rhino Records re-released expanded editions of the first four Replacements albums on Twin/Tone Records and this follow-up finds similar treatment for the Minneapolis legends four major label records, starting with 1985's Tim through their swan song, 1991's All Shook Down . [...]
It is impossible to say who is the greatest DJ of all-time, but you can say that each DJ has his or her own unique style. As a member of The Beat Junkies and of Dialated Peoples, Babu has become one of the top turntablist around, but in 2001 he ventured out in the world of production with Duck Season Vol. 1 . On Oct. 28th he returns with Duck Season Vol 3 to once again flex his producer muscle. With an all-star cast including Dilated Peoples, Wildchild, Cali Agents, Termanology, [...]

The Happy Hollows’ raucous and irreverent noisy-pop sound is influenced by genres as disparate as 90’s college rock, Broadway show-tunes, garage punk, and 80’s pop. The band combines innovative song structures, surreal lyrics, and fiercely adept instrumentation to recreate reality into a jagged panorama of vibrant, kaleidoscopic collage. Listening to their music, one cannot help but see visions of a place oddly askew from the world we experience everyday, a parallel universe that is at once whimsical, demented, and ferocious. Among other things, the subjects of their tunes include labyrinths, counterfactual history, palindromes, the colors of the rainbow, time travel, [...]
Nothing like some a new edition of our Friday Mixtape to warm up you from the frigid fall months. Alright so maybe it's not all that cold just yet, but we had to come up with some good excuse. Plus, just in case you missed anything from this week (between ACL , My Bloody Valentine , Ben Folds , and Beck there was a lot), you'll have now have some nice music to accompany your reading... NEW Singles: "Devastator" by Catfish Haven [...]
THE HAPPY HOLLOWS Imaginary EP (HEART) The Happy Hollows is, put simply, transformative. That is, the young Los Angeles trio’s infectious and amorphous sound is one that immediately sticks upon first listen, evoking hints of bands that listeners remember not for the scene that launched them nor the trends of the era, but for the moment at which they first heard its music. Song The Happy Hollows ~ " Tambourine " mp3 download ~LA Style~ trio The Happy Hollows have a late 90s indie/college rock sound about them. Someone aptly described lead singer/guitarist Sarah Negahdari as a combination of Kim Deal (Pixies, Breeders) and Mary Timony (Helium). The Happy Hollows have a new EP called Imaginary, and will be opening for Deerhoof at Avalon on Friday. Bonus: "Lieutenant" ( mp3 ) [...]
