Words by Matthew Healy Adam Stafford is a busy man. Aside from his musical output - which has, in the past six years alone, consisted of four albums with Y'all Is Fantasy Island, four solo albums and several collaborative works – he is an award winning film-maker and runs the digital release platform Wiseblood Industries. Mid-way through 2011 he released Build A Harbour Immediately , a record that we ranked as the 13th best of the year. Adam was able to take some time out of [...]

Marcus Foster has certainly had a good year this year, with his first E.P. 'Tumble Down' released in April, followed by his first full album, 'Nameless Path', in September. After a couple of band members left the area, Miguel Zelaya of Harbours abandoned work on the band's third record and began anew. Zelaya also started collaborating on writing with Heather Marie Ellison, who you might also know as Uni & Her Ukelele. Those new Harbours songs are collected on Parlors and Electrics , scheduled to be released in early 2012. You can get a sneak peek at some of the rock-pop band's new songs below: Parlors & Electrics - UPCOMING RELEASE by harbours [...]

One could be forgiven for thinking, on first being introduced to this little EP, that Harbors hail from good ol' London town. There's a real touch of the aesthetic that's been so ubiquitous here in the last few years; the artless simplicity tinged with just a touch of vocal venom that made the Mystery Jets, Johnny Flynn, et al so popular. The interplay between the drums and acoustic guitars, specifically, gives the impression that the players want us to think they've never picked up an instrument before, when in actuality it's a very controlled, thoroughly thought-out [...]

2010 is not over yet and a hearty thank you goes out to All Scandanavian for reminding us of this fact. Incredible music is still being released, even at this late hour of the year. So who is it? Who waited until November 30th to give us an album that, in the span of a few hours, has taken priority over all other reviews? Meadowland , that's who. And let us be clear: This is Meadowland from Sweden , not Meadowland from the U.S. [...]

I love world music. I seriously do, you can find some right pearls amongst the multitude of music from other countries. Because of England and America, obviously even in other countries, they listen to a big amount of English-speaking songs so with some foreign movements especially, you can hear the influence. This is especially the case with this Nigeria Special release. It came out two whole years ago though. So you've probably heard it in it's entirety and rated it out of 5 stars on iTunes if you're a hipster of those higher levels. But I myself only just [...]
[Harbours' frontman and friend of Stranger Dance, Miguel Zelaya, was nice enough to contribute a review of Timber Timbre's recent show (9/18/09) at the Rickshaw Stop. Full disclosure: Harbours were the opening for this show.] Last Friday at the early Rickshaw Stop matinee show, Timber Timbre 's subtle musical confidence won over the audience that so wisely chose to see the Toronto based band. Front-man Taylor Kirk's take on American roots music has transformed from his early bedroom blues days into a fully realized cinematic, character driven, song-scape (yes, [...]
