Two out of my three kids had imaginary friends when they were little. One was known as "my girl" and I think the other one was simply called "brother." I thought of this while I was vacuuming the other day and recalled how I used to threaten the children (the real ones) that if they didn't pick up their rooms, any toys they left on the floor would get sucked up. It worked rather well as a motivational tool. Yes, I know I was an evil mother! Any hoooooo , whilst [...]
Als ik niet gelezen had dat The Heavy Circles een project is dat bol staat van de bekende namen, dan had ik ze er geloof ik geen van allen uit gepikt. Da's vrij uitzonderlijk, want normaal heb ik daar toch...

Minute Gun - Education Kills Love Swedish electro-pop. Need I say more? The band is offering several EPs as downloads at their official site if you like this one. Francis And The Lights - I'll Never Forget You Pull out your hankies! This is a wonderful low-key ballad, dominated by a soft piano and tender vocals. Very pretty and intimate. Saint Bernadette - Love Is A Stranger In the verses it sounds almost like PJ Harvey, with [...]

Supergrass returned with a song called "Diamond Hoo Ha Man," which is sort of funny. Hoo ha. The album Diamond Hoo Ha is an excuse to show off the rock in Supergrass. The beauty in lyrics from Supergrass isn't absent, but it does seem buried under the music and a little less obvious. My first exposure to Supergrass was the "Pumpin' on Your Stereo" video, and I can't seem to kick this mental image of them, not being muppets, but with giant shoes. That's not related at all, but Diamond Hoo Ha is [...]

As I was looking the new releases for this week, a thought happened to cross my mind: Are people more inclined to actually buying music if there isn't an overabundance of albums to choose from week after week? Case in point, the release of British Sea Power's Do You Like Rock Music? being the lone notable album out this week. It certainly works that way with movies, so it would be interesting to know if that rings true with music. Regarding BSP's album, it's definitely a solid effort. This coming from [...]
Care to relive those days when there was there was something seemingly dangerous about Michael Jackson's video for Thriller , in which the countless now-Disney-esque zombies stumbled at you through dark alleys, and when Jacko himself could (semi)convincingly act the bad boy boyfriend before he transformed into something that crawled offstage of Cats ? No? Well, then maybe the 25 th anniversary edition of Thriller , on shelves this week, isn't for you. But maybe something else is on Largehearted Boy's list of new releases . You may not be as familiar with many of [...]

After several weeks of heavy lists, this week seems a bit lacking. However, there are still some really good releases and the massive lists resume next week. Enjoy! British Sea Power Do You Like Rock Music? - " Waving Flags " The Heavy Circles The Heavy Circles - " Henri " Reed KD The Ashes Bloom - " Empty [...]

Edie Brickell and Harper Simon's music has an avant-garde pop sound with an electronic edge born out of studio production techniques that squiggle and swirl behind the vocals.
Photo by Echo Danon and Coke O' Neal The Heavy Circles are a collaboration between Edie Brickell and Harper Simon (Edie's husband Paul Simon's oldest son). What began as a series of informal songwriting session led to a full scale recording and now a debut album that was co-produced by Simon and Bryce Goggin with contributions by Sean Lennon, Yuka Honda and Matt Johnson. The album is being
We get hundreds of press releases on a daily basis to our inbox. We love the music and the press agents and labels are sending us trully awesome stuff but it's really hard writing about each and every cool band. So I wanted to share some quick notes with you guys while I listen to music. I have to add that it's quite refreshing to see that the promoters out there are doing a great job sending us music that really connects with what The Plugg is all about. Thanks! [...]

Wednesday, January 23, 2008 Things have gotten insane. Every moment that I catch up with all of the quality stuff in my inbox I turn around and it's filled the brim again. There's no stopping the goods! It must have something to do with the zaniness surrounding Tom Brady and his hurt foot. Or something. Anyhow, here is an EP for your listening pleasure. Enjoy. : Flowers Forever - Black Rosary : The press release that came with this song is one [...]

One of the first issues of SPIN magazine I ever bought had Edie Brickell & New Bohemians on the cover. We don't need to discuss dates, seeing as I'm already having an age-related crisis in my personal life and don't need to let that particular paranoia leak into my blog life. Age, however, could become part of the equation when discussing Brickell's latest musical incarnation, as one half of The Heavy Circles . Her partner is one Harper Simon who is a) Paul Simon's son and b) Edie Brickell's step-son. [...]
