The second single came fast and as we can see, the video features Anastacia in her house trying to look fresh and cutesy. It kind of reminds me of when Geri Halliwell tried to get all cuddly and pillowy plush for Passion. Total cost: €300. The song is sweet for my sweets and that's the only thing that is working for this second single. I don't see this album doing anything.
"Set Me Free" - the Heavy Forceful, graceful neo-R&B from a British five-piece, as simple and classic-sounding as the background scratches imply--this is, indeed, the kind of song that listeners of a certain age might remember as being accompanied by the sound of a needle dragging its spiral path through well-worn vinyl. With this straight-ahead tale of love gone awry, front man Kelvin Swaby conjures any number of storied lead singers that have preceded him in similar musical landscapes, from Marvin Gaye to Mick Jagger to Prince, and [...]

Oh sweet jebus, voting has never looked so suh-weet! Be as American as Apollo Creed and go vote tomorrow. You'll be glad you did, because you can head on over to one of America's finest franchise-type places for some free shit - fatty American style. Starbucks is offering free coffee to anyone that walks in and says "I voted." Wear your ultra-stylish "I Voted" sticker to Krispy Creme and get a star shaped doughnut with "patriotic sprinkles." Dunkin Donuts only offers Jihad sprinkles on their misspelled "donuts." Oh, and go [...]

Pour ce dimanche un peu chafouin, quelques perles à écouter très forts, merci à ce gène de l'exploration mélodique... tv on the radio -crying- jeremy jay -the living dolls- the heavy -bruk pocket lament- no kids -neighbour's party-

Tonight you have some choices. The bad daddy of a show is taking place over at the Echo where FS favorites, THE HEAVY , do their heavy funk, nasty bass, CURTIS MAYFIELD howlin' jams with some support from another English freak, POP LEVI , who destroyed our RUMBLE party in September. THE GRAY KID handles his business as good as anyone. Meanwhile, across town on the Sunset strip at The Roxy , the UK act WHITE LIES [...]
Joe Six-Pack has nothing on Red Fang. Joe Six-Pack is a hard working man, in one of those patriotic, hard working areas of "Real America," who after waking up at the ass-crack of down, putting in a full days shift at the local factory and helping his kids with their homework, ends his day with a six pack of a watery American lager and the latest headlines via Fox News. Red Fang rock the f*ck out then down 30 or 40 cases. Who's the true American? The conservative caricature of the working man, or the [...]

Who : The Heavy from some small little town called Noid, UK. What : Trying to extend their success from the UK to the US, The Heavy have planned a mini-tour and released an EP titled Set Me Free as an introduction to the band. Interestingly, this EP (available at iTunes ) also contains a cover of Johnny Cash' s ' Doing My Time '. I've liked what I've heard so far, hopefully they start heading north to colder climates (we got snow [...]

How do you like your heavy music? With thick, heavy Sabbath like riffs, all powerful magicians, evil, hideous witches, fair virgins, and all the pomp of a medieval re-enactment? And with flute? Lots and lots of flute? Wait, don't answer that question, wait until you listen to Blood Ceremony's "Children of the Future." This combination of Jethro Tull, modern doom metal, and D&D shouldn't work at all. It should've been off of my hard drive, out of my speakers, and out of my mind after five minutes, but it wasn't. Maybe it's the [...]
While I don't know if we'd go as far to call this week's edition of the Friday Mixtape epic - after all, there is always room for improvement - it sure is quite large. 41, count 'em, 41 songs can be found below, a mix of music's best new singles and remixes along with some selections with bands you might want to check out. And since it's CMJ week, we figured no better time than now to throw in a few extra ones featuring some of the marathon's performers. The CMJ CROWD: [...]

Yeah, it's time again for thirteen new tracks to stick into your Zune, and crank up to din the sound of the bad Zamfir versions of holiday classics piped through discount stores' overhead speakers. And be like Santa on the left, and chug some Henny for us. Peachcake - "Make Movement Not War" mp3 Secret Machines - "Atomic Heels" mp3 [...]

The Heavy made their way stateside last year and quickly became a smooth pick for all lists "artists to watch" related. The band is gearing up for the release of an EP, as well as a full length, and released a new single today via Spin . This new joint, "Set Me Free" is also the title of their new album. While Spin says it is reminiscent of The Roots' "The Seed 2.0", I think it sounds a lot like Money Mark's lesser known piano groove, "Hand In Your Head".

Last night I was rendered speechless by yet another incredible live performance. It seems like the past few months have given me opportunities to witness some truly awe-inspiring bands. When I read in August that Madison, Wisconsin's Killdozer had a handful of tour dates scheduled for 2008, I nearly shit my pants and died. Sure, their first album came out when I was but one year old, and split for the first time when I was seven years old...but that doesn't mean I can't call myself a fan, right? Their songs are so rich in technical nuances and humor (see: [...]

For the next couple weeks, at least, Mondays nights on NBC are wall-to-wall. Chuck , Heroes and Life make an entertaining evening, and I'd argue that the most popular, Heroes , is by far the weakest link. Of course, after next week, Life moves permanently to the black hole of Friday night, which means I won't be writing about it anymore (just say no to Saturday posts). Of course, the Christian Slater starring My Own Worst [...]

Been cherishing two new releases from BBE Music who've hit my mailbox recently: Soul Movement No.1 by Canadian producer Slakah the Beatchild and the first one in a new series called Amplified presents Dirty Soul: Electric . Both albums feature deep & soulful vibes with beats, smooth singing and/or MCing, just the way we like it. Really love this new type of urban and mostly black music, call it jazz hop, neo soul, soulhop, electro soul whatever, sceptics will surely be saying this mostly electronic version is not [...]

Level 12 sums up their sound nicely in their bio: What if you took rock, soul, metal, tribal, funk, and jazz and put them in a big pot? Then what if you wrapped your head in tin foil and stuck your head in the microwave?* What you get is Level 12 - powerful, emotional, sensual, devastating... music. San Francisco's Level 12 seems to be on a collision course for success, having released an independent 4 song EP in February of this year followed by a sold out live show and subsequent [...]

Over the past couple years, Fucked Up have built up a reputation as being one of the most forward thinking and most progressive, modern punk bands. First, there was the more epic than f*ck, 18+ minute "Year of the Pig," single, released last year on What's Your Rupture, and expanded and repackaged by Matador earlier this year . That was followed by "No Epiphany," the first track to surface from their forthcoming coming album, "Chemistry of Common Life," which answered the question no one ever pondered: What if Genesis went through an early 80's hardcore [...]
