THCP are a band that really enjoys the fun of playing music and it shows in this latest video from the band's single, "Your Famous Friends" from their recently released album Somewhere On The Golden Coast (6/8) The video "was shot by Ben Hoste out in front of the bands' old rehearsal space in downtown Los Angeles," frontman Joey Siara tells Spinner. "We got some of our buddies to put on some presidential masks and goof around on a hot spring Saturday. The real star of the video is our pal Fieron Santos who endured water [...]
I get the feeling that all those Henry Clay People dudes have watched Point Break too many times. Then again, how many is too many when we're talking about Point Break ? Henry Clay People - Your Famous Friends
The Henry Clay People are opening tonight for Against Me and Silversun Pickups at DAR (tickets still available here ). Their down-to-earth anthemic rock and roll is always crazy amounts of fun to see live. (They go on at 7:30 tonight so get there early.) Their new record, Somewhere On the Golden Coast came out last week and it doesn't disappoint. It's music great for driving real fast to, for dancing in your living room with friends to, for anytime you want [...]
This slice of mayhem and merriment comes via the Henry Clay People , who've been known to play local shows as the Ronald Reagan People, the Santa Claus People and maybe a few other persons you had too many beers to remember. Uber-fan Fieron Santos shows surprising footspeed as the star of this single from THCP's new album "Somewhere on the Golden Coast," it's comforting to learn that no masks were injured in the making of this film. ||| Live: The Henry Clay People are on tour supporting Silversun Pickups and Against Me! Filed under: News , Video , New Music , Exclusive Any band that hails from Los Angeles and has been around a hot minute has no doubt had their brushes with fame -- or, at least, with famous people. But Henry Clay People don't exactly sound like they're from L.A. and, likewise, their blue-collar rock isn't exactly made to be played as the sun goes up over Santa Monica Boulevard (unless, perhaps, there's a street of the same name in New Jersey). [...]

Justin Gage, founder of Aquarium Drunkard and Autumn Tone Records, recently released a local music compilation featuring eight Los Angeles artists paying tribute to Television's sophomore LP, Adventure . The album entitled, L'Aventure , includes tracks from The Henry Clay People, Foreign Born, The Happy Hollows, Local Natives, The Deadly Syndrome, Dirt Dress, Imaad Wasif w/ Lykke Li, and The Growlers. L'Aventure is available as a free download (FLAC and/or 320kbs mp3), if you have the means, please donate to the Los Angeles based Silverlake Conservatory of Music. [...]

Television's 1977 album "Marquee Moon" is recognized as one of the greatest debut albums of all time. The quartet's follow-up, "Adventure," was excellent (if less rough around the edges) in its own right — and now L.A. blogging luminary Aquarium Drunkard has cast a spotlight on it with the release of "L'Aventure," a digital compilation that features eight Los Angeles bands covering the album's eight tracks. Like AD's 2009 release "RAM in L.A." — on which 11 local artists covered the songs on Paul McCartney's 1971 album "RAM" — "L'Aventure" is a [...]

Aquarium Drunkard releases their second free, digital charity cover compilation today. Last year's RAM On L.A. was a real treat, and this year, AD has chosen Television's L'Aventure . Outside of helping a cause/organization, AD's annual digital cover compilation is a way to showcase much of the talent in current LA music scene. The Drunkard has given us the album's opening cut, Glory , as covered by The Henry Clay People . MP3 : [...]
There is a term in writing called a poetic truth, or at least I think there is. It's one of those terms a professor of mine would throw around, and I just assumed everyone used it; yet, I can't find anything about it, at least used in the context that I know it on the internet. Basically, when something sounds true because of the wordplay but isn't necessarily true in reality, it is a poetic truth. You can also find these poetic truths in exaggerations, when you say something is always one way or never another, but the reality is [...]
You'd think after the debacle posting The Henry Clay People 's "Your Famous Friends" last week we'd be wary of posting another clip by the band. But you'd be thinking wrong. The L.A.-based act recently performed a live set at Fingertips, which we think is a record store somewhere, and at some point requests were taken, and the result is the awesome video above wherein The Henry Clay People tackle The Replacements ' "Can't Hardly Wait" and -- astonishingly -- Operation Ivy 's "Knowledge." Check it out. The Henry Clay People will play [...]

Photography by Jolabrute ... Have you ever noticed that I don't really post Hold Steady outside of maybe a tsuruloosie or two? Honestly, not my cup o' tea, you know? It's not the music so much as it's the Randy Newman voice belting out bar rock songs. Nothing against them, his voice is his voice, but when ever I hear a song I can't separate it from, say, the theme song from Monk or whatever. Well... I think I may have finally found a [...]

Almost everyone I know on the LA Indie music scene has been lucky enough to see The Henry Clay People at least once. They are known at many small venues like Spaceland, where they chose to have their record release show for their third baby Somewhere on the Golden Coast . An intimate crowd of friends who were also dedicated fans surrounded the stage to show support. The Henry Clay People - Your Famous Friends [MP3] Songs like "Your [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Exclusive Los Angeles and New York have always had a bit of a rivalry -- east coast/west coast, Hollywood versus Wall Street, etc. And now, one of Los Angeles' hottest musical exports, Silversun Pickups , are taking some New York heat. "New York gets so pissed at us," frontman Brian Aubert tells Spinner. "We get messages and things from New York like, 'You guys are d---s!'" So, what's up with the messages? Well, it turns out Silversun Pickups are a victim of [...]

The Henry Clay People are five Los Angeles kids, a set of brothers and some friends, who have been making, since 2005, music that they describe as ideal for people who prefer "hanging out, drinking cheap beer, and listening to Big Star records" to their city's club scene. Their music accurately reflects this plebeian image of Saturday nights spent in a bar with antlers hung on the walls – two guitars intertwining like vines, a twangy voice, driving percussion. "Slow Burn" sounds like something you'd put on the jukebox on a first date, or fiddle with the radio until you [...]

The music fans of this generation have impeccable taste, The upsurge of musical talents makes me every bit the happy aficionado and the same should go for you too. For June, here [...]
