Omg, it's back! Miwa Gemini - Crazy Over You I only heard Miwa's music for the first time a few days ago, but I'm already enthralled. Imagine a slightly more soft-voiced Nina Simone picking up a guitar and making gorgeous, low-key indie-pop. I made a post about her earlier this week, which features two other track worth checking out. Chris Mason - Better Lush singer/songwriter material from Australia. [...]

Later this week, DC's Deleted Scenes will embark on a US tour that will stretch into mid-June. Tonight, they will be having a big kickoff party at The Red and The Black and several of their tourmates will be joining them. The band is excited about this show and Dan describes their friends as follows... The Hero Cycle is dense indie rock from Burlington, VT. Hot Lava is milky, very pretty electro-folk from Richmond, VA. Paper Airplanes is shambling, charming indie pop from Wichita, KS [...]
Last summer, when I guest blogged over here , I plugged a Vermont collective called The Hero Cycle . Well, serendipitously, tonight is the CD release party for their debut EP Lakes & Ponds (at Club Metronome in Burlington). The five-song EP is efficiently packed with a quintet of standout Broken Social Scene-inspired tunes. You can stream the entire album on their website and buy it from emusic . The Hero Cycle will also be hitting Williamsburg next week at [...]

Hidden Shoal Recordings, today announced the release of the EP, "Lakes and Ponds" by US based indie pop rockers, The Hero Cycle. From the exultant indie rock joyride of "Breathing In" to the bursting pop immediacy of "Lovers Crime", "Lakes and Ponds" grabs you by the hand, squeezes your palm, then throws you into its spacious and twisting trajectory. The EP manages that perfect balance between viscera and brains where pop hooks and songcraft walk hand in hand with a big layered sound. - Press Release Excerpt. [...]

One of my favorite local bands this year was The Hero Cycle from Burlington. In fact, my iTunes library shows that I listened to "Breathing In", "American Proxy" and "You vs Them" about 55 times since last April when Casey's Sound Bites article tipped me off to them. Basically, if you like Broken Social Scene then you're an excellent candidate for Hero Cycle fandom. Last month, their debut EP (including the songs above and two more), Lakes and Ponds, became available on emusic . [...]

The Hero Cycle started out as a four member band from Vermont in 2005. It has grown to include 7 members, which combine each members unique instrumentation creating a dynamic electric sound that is quite promising. Lakes and Ponds is their new EP set for release this month and I highly recommend giving it a listen. It is currently available online at emusic and look for the official release in the next couple weeks. [...]
Hidden Shoal Recordings, today announced the release of the single, ?You vs Them? by US based indie pop rockers, ? The Hero Cycle ?. The track is taken from the forthcoming EP ?Lakes and Ponds? due for release in January 2007. "You vs Them" is available now exclusively from the HSR Store . You vs Them The Hero Cycle - You vs Them

Bradley's Almanac also tipped me off a few weeks ago to some new songs from The Hero Cycle . You can catch both of the tracks on their myspace site . Of the two tracks, I prefer "Lovers Crime". It has a bit of an Asobi Seksu sound to it but still in the same Hero Cycle vein. The petite female vocals and fuzzy guitar wall is what makes me think of Asobi Seksu. They don't have any shows scheduled right now according to their website but I give them big [...]
