The Lot Music Festival is taking place this Saturday down in the heart of St. Louis. It's located at the Schlafly Tap Room, so you know there's going to be an abundance of quality brews, but there's also going to be red hots, bar-b-que, alcoholic sno cones, Fred Bird, hoosier golf, and something called "What's [...]

The '60s and '70s nights of An Under Cover Weekend are in the books, and -- well, wow. Like last year, bands went all-out for their tribute sets. Like the Hibernauts , who slayed as the Four Tops on Friday night, thanks to matching red jackets, back-up singers/musicians and a whole lotta Motown heart. Or the Feed , which tackled Jimi Hendrix by sporting clashing outfits (drummer Kevin Bowers' plaid pants were particularly loud, although a friend fondly noted that singer Dave Grelle looked like Pauly Shore ca. Son-In-Law in his get-up ) and having [...]
The 2008 version of An Under Cover Weekend at the Bluebird is double the fun of last year's inaugural edition: The event is now spread out over four nights (in other words, two weekends). And although the premise of the extravaganza is still the same — your favorite local musicians paying tribute to bands of yesteryear by doing all-covers sets — each night will focus on the music of a specific decade. Here's a comparison of the swinging '60s participants; judge for yourself how well they'll do. The show starts at 8 p.m. Friday, September 5, and Saturday, [...]

Target Market www.myspace.com/targetmarket Since releasing 2006's No Thrills , Target Market has gone through quite the metamorphosis in terms of lineup and musical direction. Recent live performances have found the band leaving behind most of its spastic post-rock in favor of a more hook-driven indie-pop sound that draws more from the simple genius of Lou Reed than complex Midwest mathiness. But danceable grooves, deceptively complex drum patterns and inventive melodies still serve the band well and should fuel its upcoming album, which is expected later this year. -- Shae Moseley [...]

(Thanks to bands for permission to post MP3s!) Jon Hardy & the Public , Working in Love Fans of the Basement Tapes-esque Americana of Jon Hardy's early work were right to be surprised and stunned by Working In Love . The record isn't the work of a Midwestern alt-country band; it's the sound of blue-eyed soul in love with pop music, from the resonant chime of guitars, to the unflagging rhythm section to the horn section that blares hook after undeniable [...]
