As you wait for The National to finish up a new album you don't have to wait to hear new music by the band. This time, though, it's not really their own track but instead them performing the song written by George R. R. Martin, the creator of Game Of Thrones on the soundtrack to which this song appears. Yes, you read that right. Everyone's favourite sourpuss band The National will appear on the Game Of Thrones soundtrack, performing this song penned just for the show, [...]

2011 may prove to be the year Kathleen Edwards recalls as the twelve months that made the Torontonian singer-songwriter. That said it could just as easily have been the year to break her: despite embarking on a European tour with the universally-venerated Justin Vernon under the household-infiltrating, BRIT-acknowledged, show-stealing, Grammy nomination-sweeping Bon Iver moniker her support slot on the second of two London shows at the Hammersmith Apollo was greeted by the most indecorous indifference one may care to envisage . Similarly, anyone who's ever painstakingly pieced together a record will be all too cognisant of the [...]

"Wish You Were There" is a new feature by Quit Mumbling giving you full set list downloads from shows you probably wish you had (and might have actually) gone to... To start off the feature, relive one of my favorite nights of the past year by downloading the entire set from The National at The Hollywood Bowl on September 11th, 2011. If you really want to jump start your memory, and possibly a tear or two, check out Kenny's review of the show here. Download The National Live @ [...]

The National performed on Canadian Public Radio's "On Q" w/ Jian Ghomeshi on December 7th. They were joined by Bon Iver's Justin Vernon for an amazing performance of "Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks" which closed their 2010 release "High Violet" and has also closed out their live set. They also debuted two new songs "Rylan" and "I Need My Girl" presumably for an upcoming 2012 release. The National Official Site [...]

The National alongside the invited Justin Vernon from Bon Iver performed "Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks" off the The National's 2010 LP High Violet for CBS Radio live. Take a look above.
Que bela fase do The National . [...]

As you get older, going back to the place you grew up starts to become a contradiction. It's still the safest of safe havens but it's also this remote place that feels separate from everything else; a place much smaller than all the things your life now contains, that almost seems to have existed solely to ground you in preparation for all that world out there. A trip home always seems to elegantly toe that line of joy in the familiar and sadness with all that's changed. Either way, it's got something on every other place in existence. This inseparable [...]

As if The National's shows are not heavy enough on their own accord, they happened to share their night at the Hollywood Bowl with the tenth anniversary of September 11th earlier this week. Now I'm not about to give you a walkthrough of my 8th grade morning because I don't think that's really how we process collective memories anyway. I think what we mostly remember are the private moments that make a shared event part of our own personal history. The memories that lingered around for the last decade weren't necessarily detailed progressions, but scattered thoughts like the [...]

Mumford & Sons recently played a VH1 Unplugged session. During their set the band covered The National 's " England ", a track off the band's latest album ' High Violet '. Watch the cover above.
The National give us yet more 'extras' with Exile Vilify - a soft, sweeping ballad with a twirling piano motif. Strings are very much in. Featured on the soundtrack to the video game Portal 2, according to the band's PR people The National's "raw and emotive music evokes the same visceral reactions from its listeners that Portal does from its players." We were thinking exactly the same thing. With their appearance on the soundtrack to Paul Giamatti's Win Win with the similarly piano-led Think You Can Wait , The National are [...]

Have you not heard of The National?! Then you're out of the loop, listen to these tracks and impress your friends, this baritoned fronted band is too good to miss. They have a sound thats very reminiscent of 802s bands like Echo and the Bunnymen or Church but with a modern flare. Their new album "High Violet" is awesome, check out a few tracks. How much do I love The National? Even if what they're doing is never exactly groundbreaking, they do it so well, and this is a band that seems to always move me every time. After they put out the stellar High Violet LP last year, the band has been touring like crazy and (somewhat) quietly releasing a few B-sides and new tracks, like "Exile Vilify," which the band contributed to the recently released video game Portal 2 . Kind of an odd fit, and far too moody to make me want to go play video [...]
Anyone's Ghost 2. Afraid Of [...]

If you say that you've thought of putting The National on the soundtrack to ANY video game, then I say you're a liar. Surely this is something that shouldn't work, or happen, or even come about it, but somehow they've ended up on the soundtrack to Portal 2, a science-fiction based puzzle game. I never played the first installment although I heard plenty about it, and I'm not sure how this fits into the game's soundscape when the first game was almost all ambient/instrumental music. The National do have a sort of empty, [...]

You know your band is moving up in the world when your music is making it onto video game soundtracks. The National's "Exile Vilify" will be featured in Portal 2, which makes me assume we're talking about leftovers here; however, the somber attitude and lush string accompaniment are pretty enjoyable. Can't wait to see where the band goes from here-even though y'all are still pretty burnt over my review of High Violet .
