Today the U.S. nation celebrates the life and work of prominent civil rights activist, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King . Here are three speeches by Dr. King. The first is King's infamous "I Have a Dream" speech delivered on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. on August 28, 1963. The second is a speech given January 14, 1968, at a demonstration supporting anti-war activitists, including singer Joan Baez, imprisoned at the Santa Rita Prison in California. The recording of Dr. King's speech was produced by Colin Edwards for [...]

Back in the long long ago, it was extremely rare to stumble upon free music. In fact, as the historical photograph above documents, many of the musicians of yesteryear were quite fond of playing one note compositions. Not so today! Lucky for all of us, musicians today pepper the sonic landscape with a cornucopia of amazing sounds. And you know what? Many of them offer these sounds for FREE. And that's where we come in; that's where EAR FARM's Free Music Fridays can be of much service to you, the music lover. So come on and click through the following [...]

It may seem as if a cosmic aligning of the stars is the only explanation for how the men of Historics came together to release their compelling debut album, Strategies for Apprehension . It's difficult to imagine what a collaboration between Don Devore (Amazing Baby; Ink & Dagger; The Icarus Line), Josh Grubb (VietNam), Mickey Madden (Maroon 5), Jeff Knutsen (Fast Fourier), and Matt Werth (Favourite Sons) may sound like. Despite their disparate backgrounds, Historics' have created a meticulously crafted and inimitable sound. Recorded over the last year in New York [...]

So the snarkwits over at New York's Vulture have written up " The Ten Least Impressive 'Supergroups,' " which, yes, is a pretty impressive list of unimpressive bands. But I just got wind of a group called Historics that is making some pretty-boy pop that tilts the dial just slightly into the derivative zone and not nearly enough to warrant rejection. The band features members of Maroon 5 (?), Amazing Baby (Wesleyan!), Favourite Sons, VietNam and Fast Fourier. Their debut features a cameo by Kool Keith (!) So by 'super' I mean a nice indie collaboration between five [...]
Historics (members of Maroon5, The Icarus Line, VietNam) Historics , a collaboration between Don Devore (Amazing Baby; Ink & Dagger; The Icarus Line), Josh Grubb (VietNam), Mickey Madden (Maroon 5), Jeff Knutsen (Fast Fourier), and Matt Werth (Favourite Sons), is set to release their debut effort "Strategies for Apprehension". Over the album's 45 minutes, the band drifts between sun-kissed psychedelia, pulsing slowcore, shaggy garage rock, and droning electronics. Kool Keith also makes a guest appearance on the track " Take it to the Top ". [...]
