Here is the new single and accompanying video from The Computers whose debut album 'This Is The Computer' comes out this month. The Essex 4-piece have come a long way since crashing on John 'Speedo' Reis' floor to record this album. the Rocket From A Crypt / Hot Snakes frontman took the band under his [...]
Apparently The Cardigans are suing The Hives over an unpaid loan: http://gaffa.se/nyhet/48972 (in Swedish)
Let's be honest: a lot of music blogs feature writing that is entirely underwhelming. Whether by simply copying and pasting press releases or writing in vague language, the average music blogger is best suited to get his or her point across by simply sharing an mp3—end of thought. That's not the case with one of my absolute favorite sites, Folk Hive : you might visit at first for the music, but you'll return time and again for Samantha Kramer's balls-to-the-wall passionate, insightful, conversational, and hilarious writing. So, let me just tell you guys [...]

Sure, we've got Coachella and Bonnaroo and all those great American festivals over here. England's got Glastonbury and Bestival, etc. Australia's got its share of great fests, as well, and Splendour in the Grass is one of the best. Last year saw the Pixies, The Strokes, and Mumford and Sons atop a massive lineup, and this year looks to be equally epic. Coldplay, Kanye West and Jane's Addiction will headline the 11th incarnation of the three day festivities at Woodfordia in Queensland. Seventy-nine other acts are under them, and the names are just as exciting. The Hives, the [...]

Arguably the best festival on the Australian circuit, Splendour in the Grass will return this year to Woodfordia, in Woodford, QLD for the second year straight. After relocating from Byron Bay due to council redevelopment last year, the festival enjoyed record numbers and unprecedented amount of good times. After witnessing it first hand last year along with Ubbs. it's safe to say that if you're in the country you should be trying to be tickets. After much hype, rumours and discussion in recent weeks, the official line-up announcement occurred today on triple j and without further adieu, we [...]

Here at the Hive, we heart mail. Mailbag is a recurring feature in which we hip you to artists seeking play via our email inbox. I've lamented (shit, need different word there) the awesomeness of Mount Moriah before, here, but the arrival of 'Lament' in my inbox yesterday takes that awesomeness to a whole new level. While I'll admit that I'm typically drawn to music first by, well, the music, this jam took hold of me with the words. If this will be anything, let [...]

In the pantheon on great "lost" albums, the Beach Boys ' Smile , may be the most sought after by fans. The album was intended be the follow up to the band's seminal 1966 release Pet Sounds . Rumors have swirled for years about the recording sessions for the album, which included a lot of turmoil from within the band and a healthy dose of bizarre behavior from Brian Wilson , eventually leading the album to be officially being scrapped. While songs from the Smile sessions - like Good Vibrations, Surf's Up and [...]
Photography By Tom Sheehan This came outta nowhere. Who even knew The Vines were still alive, never mind still making music? When they blew up back in early 20002s during part of the "The" revolution of bands whose name all seemed to start with The; The Vines, The Strokes, The Hives, The White Stripes, The Libertines, The N*SYNCs, their music was more often than not overshadowed by singer Craig Nicholls' increasingly erratic behaviour, later turning out be due to his having Asperger Syndrome. He also had a fairly strong "addiction" to fast food [...]

Tired of the same old boring Christmas songs year after year? The same songs in the same style every December? Fear no more..... This is a Christmas mix with a little bit of a twist. Nothing too "out there" or but different enough to keep you from going insane with the sounds of X-Factor garbage or other annually released festive "songs" ringing in your ears. The mix starts off with an epic track from Mew and goes into some Christmassy pop and funk then we head into [...]

Wow. It's been a while since I dropped my last mixtape. It's seems like forever ago that we were saying goodbye to Summer , since now all I can think about are my freezing cold toesies. Enter the All Things Go Workout Mixtape Disc 2; here to get rid of your post-Thanksgiving pudge and complement the first edition which you hopefully have been pumping since June. This second installment was crafted back in July, but I've been so busy with the new site and school and whatnot that I never got around to posting it. No more [...]

Mit ihrem Erstling "How To Make Friends" bewiesen FM Belfast, dass isländische Musik ohne Mystik-Kram funktioniert. FM Belfast bedienen sich an Songzeilen von Rage Against the Machine, covern Technotronic und besingen eigene Sommergedanken. [...]

Stray Dogs From: Russia (I guess) I stumbled across Stray Dogs while tootling around Last.FM and can't for the life of me find any trace of them anywhere else on the interweb. The world wide web is seemingly over-run by Stray Dogs. There's the New Zealand Stray Dogs (who seem to have two myspace sites!). There's the Colorado based Stray Dog or the Belgium electronic duo Stray [...]

The fifth installment of Andy C's best-selling Nightlife drum n' bass compilation dropped earlier this month. It's been over two years since the last Nightlife , but if you're unfamiliar with Andy and his work, here's the bottom line: If you like DnB even just a little, Nightlife 5 is definitely worth your time. With 63 tracks in a little over two hours, it's a downright frantic mix. Andy C included something for every DnB lover, whether they be an occasional dabbler or hardcore fanatic. The likes of [...]

Tarred and Feathered is the latest offering from the Swedish Garage/Punk band The Hives. Released digitally On July 2nd, 2010, Tarred and Feathered is a three track EP of obscure cover songs. The first song on the EP, "Civilizations Dying", is a cover of a song originally done by The Zero Boys. The Zero Boys were a four piece Punk/Hardcore band from the Indianapolis, Indiana area. They lasted from the 1979 to about 1985 initially, reforming in the late 80s/early 90s. The Hives version of "Civilizations Dying" is a faithful version of the original with an added [...]

Fifteen years is a long time between albums, especially when in the meantime, seemingly hundreds of bands were replicating the post-punk formula popularized by Gang of Four. From Liars' debut record to Franz Ferdinand's angular jaunts, the early aughts were a breeding ground for bands influenced musically by the Leeds foursome. Gang of Four are back with a new album, Content , due out early next year, and the first four bars of new single "Never Pay For The Farm" sound like the first four bars off every song of GOF's undeniably great debut album [...]

The Hives - Abra Cadaver On "Abra Cadaver," The Hives lead singer Howlin' Pelle Almqvist makes his point in 93 seconds. Not much time, especially considering his first lyric comes 11 seconds into the track and the last few perfectly formed English words explode from his Swedish mouth at 1:07. Fifty-six ticks, less than a full revolution of the second hand. (An aside, a luxury for which there isn't time on "Abra Cadaver": The Hives wanted to replicate American punk rock and '50s soul music. The teenage members of the group grew up in [...]
