It's important to point out that me seeing Craig Finn was very last minute. I heard an interview the other day where Finn was discussing the roots of the title of his new album, "Clear Heart Full Eyes." The new album title is a nod to the TV show, "Friday Night Lights," which possibly ties in as a coincidence that he recorded the release down in Austin. Last month, Hold Steady frontman Craig Finn released Clear Heart Full Eyes , his first-ever solo album, and he's lately done a few different in-studio sessions for a few different media outlets. At a couple of those, he's played songs that, for whatever reason, didn't appear on the album. I'm lucky enough to have a ticket to see Craig Finn at Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco in a couple of weeks, but really, this NPR Tiny Desk Concert is just gorgeous and perfect, and should do in a pinch if you can't see him live. As the man said, "All these mournful, inward-facing songs (including the unreleased "Jeremiah's Blues") require is the Hold Steady singer, his acoustic guitar and the indispensable pedal steel of Ricky Ray Jackson."
