Let me tell you about the first time I saw The Holy Mess a few years back. They opened up for a band I was there to see (I don't remember who), and these Philly punks talked waaay too goddamn much. However, sort of like Dillinger Four, their banter was hilarious. The very few songs they did play got me interested in checking out their recorded stuff. The band sort of exploded over the past two years and got the attention of Red Scare, to which they pretty much released two of the bands EPs ( Dismount and [...]

Last night, with a possible case of malaria (don't worry punks, it's not contagious) I headed out to Philly's First Unitarian Church to see Philly/Jersey's None More Black play a show with The Holy Mess, homies Dry Feet, and Halo Of Snakes. The show was running late, so I was able to catch everyone. Halo Of Snakes Picture from blowthescene.com . Awesome Philly music site, check em out. [...]

Philadelphia's The Holy Mess will head to the studio with Matt Allison ( Alkaline Trio , The Menzingers ) at Atlas Studios to record their full-length debut on Red Scare this March. In 2011, the band released a collection CD, The Holy Mess , on Red Scare combining Dismount 12" , Benefit Sesh [7-inch] , and 2 new songs. You can catch them this month with The Lawrence Arms on a mini tour .
On Saturday, I headed out for the first music fest that I've gone to since Warped Tour and Skate and Surf back in 2003. I usually am not a fan of large music festivals, but the lineup of Riot Fest East was completely stellar, and I got tickets on craigslist for pretty damn cheap, so there was no way I was missing this all day punk fest (even if I was in the pit with a broken arm cast).Riot
Last evening, I headed out to Killadelphia's Barbary to catch not only our own Holy Mess, but also one of my favorite bands Off With Their Heads. This show was going to be a weird experience for me as I usually lose my shit, but due to my injured broken arm I was forced on the sidelines and *gasp* just to watch the show (probably will be like this until December according to doctors). I

Also on the bill this year are Social Distortion, X (playing their 1980 album Los Angeles ), Descendents, ALL, Helmet, Strike Anywhere and several Chicago acts including The Tossers, The Crombies and Nachtmystium. Jumping Jesus on a pogo stick, I've been busy! Car breakdowns, my birthday... it's been tough to post as of late. But I still <3 you all, and I also love the Holy Mess. Hence why I might be catching them tomorrow, and why I saw them last Tuesday at Philly's Fire.Ah, Horse HockeyI've never heard of these guys before, but I definitely was digging their set. They played that Philly style

With a name like The Holy Mess , you expect plenty of beers to be drank and spilled during their set as strangers' bodies fly into each other. An eclectic mix of pop punk and soul, their music allows for a smooth blend of raging and shoving between ecstatic hi fives. The local foursome's pop melodies complimented with primal yells and adrenaline-filled riffs create a somewhat familiar yet innovative sound that will pack plenty of sweaty bros onto the often perspiration-soaked dance floor of The Barbary this evening. The Holy Mess will be opening for Dear Landlord, which is [...]

The Holy Mess will be exploding pretty soon, especially now that they signed with Red Scare records, but they still will remain Philadelphia's premier party band. Bringing kegs on stage with them and passing beer around, their live shows are always a good time, and their recorded stuff completely rules too.Released back in 2008, "A Briefcase Full Of Bruise" is a 7 song pop punk EP with

First off, all the pictures in this post are from the show and taken by an incredibly talented photographer named Blake. You should check out his concert photography over at blklrsn.tumblr.com.Secondly, there's been a lot of good shows lately. Last Friday, I headed out to the Ox to catch philly relocated own The Menzingers play with The Loved Ones and The Holy Mess. This place is one of
Yesterday, on incredibly little sleep, I decided I was going to skip The Queers playing at the Barbary and would just take it easy. Then a buddy of mine informed me of a basement show happening, and I needed to go. I walked around a certain part of Philly looking for said show and walked into the wrong house for a different basement show (I <3 style="font-weight: bold;">Restorations:I never
I've seen Philly's The Holy Mess's name thrown around quite a bit these days and even have seen them open a few shows I've gone to (to which I've described their set as: "tight, but jesus christ they like to hear themselves talk). For some reason though, I never really got to sit down and check out any of their recorded work. I finally got to listen to their latest "Benefits Sesh" 7-inch,

Lotsa catchy melodies, brash shouted voices, tons of fun. Those are the ingredients that make Benefit Sesh , the new 73 from Philadelphia's The Holy Mess totally great. For those who need comparisons, think of The Menzingers or The Lawrence Arms and you'll be pretty close. Yeah, it's East Coast punk filtered through the cold gruff Midwest with a little bit of East Bay thrown in as well. On my first listen to Benefit Sesh , I thought, "Hey! I've written those chord progressions before," and while there is a degree of familiarity [...]

The Holy Mess – Benefit Sesh 7" - Goodby 3713 (Must've Been a Good One) b/w A Soulful Punk Tune About a Working Class Dreamer Hell yes!! The words "punk rock" seems to have been absconded by just about anybody these days who fancies themselves an outsider, dropping that tagline onto their pathetic noise regardless of what the music actually sounds like. But 90% of what comes across the Ripple desk with the moniker "punk rock" to me isn't real punk. I don't know, maybe it's because I was spinning Fear, [...]
Members of The Holy Mess , Athletics , Last Perfect Thing and Toothgrinder have a new project together. No,its not a new band. It's the new Russo Music Center in Asbury Park. The new music shop is located on 639 Cookman Ave(below Holdfast Clothing and Records) just minutes away from The Saint and Stone Pony. Check out the place on Facebook .
Last evening, I headed out to Philly's The Fire to catch one of my favorite hardcore bands around, Lighten Up. The show started a bit late (Was supposed to start at 6, started around 7:15) so I amused myself by walking around the neighborhood, talking to crazy drunk old dudes, and trying out some of the pizza joints. Finally, i heard some sound checking coming from within the bar, so I
