After enjoying such beautiful weather this weekend, this morning's gloomy overcast has us feeling some sort of way so we felt that The Homophones 's latest offering Grey Ghost EP would be a fitting soundtrack to get us through today. You can listen to and download the entire album for free below. Enjoy! Grey Ghost EP by The Homophones

A peaceful yet post apocalyptical ambiance is the scene Ape School paints in Michael Johnson's latest creation. Before the vocals enter the picture, futuristic echoes set the stage and the coast appears to be clear. Then a smooth even-keeled voice arrives bringing with it a sense of relief like a cool mist hitting your face. Slowly the instrumental layers build as life naturally reemerges from every corner and crevice of protection and so begins the new age. When you scan the surroundings, The Homophones fronted by Jason Ferraro might catch your eye. Ferraro's rich baritone vocals [...]

When The Homophones ' Jason Ferraro sings, he's a narrator who seems like he might just be improvising the plot as he goes along - reminiscent of Morrissey with vocals that are spoken yet sung. Simple, smooth melodies provided by guitarist Dan Adair and the rhythm section combo of Ben Saltzman and Ryan Mitchell balance quite naturally with Ferraro's deep ominous sounding voice. His chosen subject matter and tone are often humorous and quirky while remaining intellectually stimulating and sometimes vulnerable. But it's the vocals that captivate you despite the "figure it out as we go" vibe. There is [...]

This past Tuesday at Johnny Brenda's The Homophones were the sole opening act for a sold out Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. show. The stage was packed with balloons and decorations from both bands. The Homophones fearlessly experimented with a bunch of new tunes for the big show. They proved to be a great warm-up to get the crowd excited for the headlining act. What really impressed us the most about the Detroit-based outfit was Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.'s work ethic and desire to entertain. After chatting backstage with one half of the core duo, Josh Epstein, we learned [...]

Indie pop masters The Homophones have been going through plenty of growing pains and lineup changes in the last year or so, but frontman Jason Ferraro still continues to give it his all on stage entertaining audiences with his dreamy baritone vocals, witty lyrics and onstage banter, and infectious energy. And the guy is never afraid to wail on his guitar and bleed for you. The Homophones will be opening at Johnny Brenda's tonight for ultra-rad Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., who showed up all of the overpaid big name acts on the first day of this year's POPPED! [...]

We are excited to be able to share with you one of our favorite bands, The Homophones . Why is this such a big deal? Well, this track is actually the first recording available that is closest to what the band sounds like these days. The other ones that are posted are basically leading man Jason Ferraro's solo recordings with the help of The Spinto Band's Nick Krill. So download the new track "Sweater Weather" from The Homphones' EP Let Me Down Easy ! And yes, we know it's not free, but "name you own price." However, it's [...]

Last Wednesday night, The Homophones promised: "Balloons. Beer specials. Fake flowers. Real blood. New songs. And a Yes cover." They delivered and then some. The band also brought along new member and female vocalist Kate Fabrizio. You can check out my photos from their set HERE . Keep a look out for Jason Ferraro's yet-to-be-named new project (well, it was originally called NOWHERE until he discovered that a cheesy alt rock band from Switzerland was already using it). They'll be performing live on July 16 at the M Room with Gang and Sgt. Sass [...]

It's easy for me to say that David Byrne is my favorite musician/artist of all-time. I have always been attracted to the quirky-intellectual-introverte d-yet-extraverted quality that you find in his music and live performances. Ever since I was in junior high when my friend's dickhead older brother, who used to pick on Brendan and I, came back from college, said to us "why don't you douche bags listen to some real music", and threw us the cassette of Stop Making Sense , my life was changed. The dickhead was right. Well, those brilliant qualities in Byrne's work are things that [...]

>> More photos on Flickr The Homophones @ the North Star Bar, Philadelphia (6/3/09) If The Hidden Cameras stripped-down their sound and traded Joel Gibb for a baritone version of Moz dressed in a David Byrne-esque First Communion-style white suit, the result would be The Homophones . Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the best description that's ever been written about them. The truth is, if you do a little Googling you won't find much about The Homophones at all. Their MySpace page does [...]

I'm not usually one to write based solely on a few mp3s and a press clipping, but when something comes to me promoted as a gay zombie flick, I have to pass it along. Here's what I know: Bruce La Bruce helmed gay zombie flick Otto; Or, Up With Dead People to be released on DVD next month following MOMA debut and nationwide theatrical run. This is from the press release: [...]
