The guys behind California is a Place continue to kill it on the documentary front with rich, heartfelt and in this case provocative (NSFW for plastic breastesses) subject matter that remind you just how different people are. I'd use the snow flake analogy but my inner Hunter S. Thompson won't allow it. Related posts: Short Films: California is a Place California is loaded. With 739 unread emails in my inbox I'm having to pick and choose which "request for submission" I pay attention to so it's always nice to get an email from an actual band member. Visiting their site I knew I'd get on with them when I saw their tour poster (see above) it's not that it's clever or funny but it's their "if you like our music you'll find out our tour dates" attitude. Turns out they're touring in Australia which is a bit of a trek for me (I'm struggling to get in to Bristol for gigs at the [...]

Four tracks from Oz for you this fine (yet bloody chilly!) evening. I came across this tune by The Ravenous while trawling through Triple J Unearthed - it's all moody and meandering and I can't get enough of it. Hurricanes and Fireworks - The Ravenous You can hear more from this Melbourne trio here on their Unearthed artist page - they have two other songs available for free download, including the rather romantically titled 'You Look [...]
We've been doing a good job of keeping you informed of the stuff we've liked lately, but we haven't been putting out the stuff that I've heard but haven't gotten a chance to talk about yet. I just thought that "Damn, I Don't Want to Go Back to Work, Why Weren't My Parents Really Wealthy?" was super childish for a 31 [...]

So it is fast approaching the time of year where it is all about end year lists, best ofs and retrospectives. For Aussie bloggers, I don't think it comes anymore well known on a local front than A-Reminder's Annual Top Australia/NZ Bands & Artists list. The top 25 or so bands that I contribute rarely rate high on the list, but I think that is both a sign of good taste on the part of my fellow Aussie bloggers at the expense of my own and a brilliant chance to have a concise list formulated of how good [...]
