Keane – Strangeland album review

Keane – Strangeland album review Sixteen tracks to this fourth release by UK artist Keane, most of them echoes of what's gone on before in some form. Generally, reviewers of this album complain that the group has not continued to experiment with edgier stuff, as if any self-respecting artist has only a newer, more evolving sound in mind. But Keane gathered quite a fan base doing what they do and you can't argue with numbers. That being said, this is a formulaic production, but that certainly doesn't mean it's not any good. The opening track "You Are Young" is a very pleasing middle-of-the-road [...]

ALBUM REVIEW: "Journey Through The Shadows" by The Parlotones

South African quartet The Parlotones are more than ready for their US moment.

Contest! Win 2 Tickets to See The Parlotones @ Brighton Music Hall (6/2/12)

Remember that addictive track "Honey" by The Parlotones that we posted last week? If not, remind yourself below. The South Africans have a new album hitting shelves next Tuesday (5/8), and it's an entirely refreshing listen. Too often these days shit sounds exactly the same, and these guys have managed to separate themselves from the pack through songs like "Honey". Journey Through The Shadows in it's entirety is made up of unique, modern rock tracks just like this. Anyways, we've managed to score a pair of tickets to give away to their concert here in Boston at The Brighton Music [...]

The Parlotones – Honey

I was sent a couple of tracks by The Parlotones from a buddy in the industry, and I'm 100% sold on "Honey", a sneak peak at their upcoming album Journey Through The Shadows. The South African rock band has been in the game for a minute now, seeing significant success in their homeland. I don't know though, with a sound like this - I could see them breaking through the American threshold. It doesn't hurt that the lead singer sounds like the long lost brother of The Killers' Brandon Flowers either. Hit the stream below for a little taste. Tweet

Lulu Brings "Iced Honey" to Later With Jools Holland

Lou Reed & Metallica - Iced Honey (on Later Live with Jools Holland) 8th Nov 2011
When I reviewed Lulu at the beginning of this month, I had to admit the album's odd allure despite some glaring flaws. The album was a combination of some interesting jams and ideas getting filtered through one of rock music's most unlikely collaborations. I thought the insane, musical train wreck would stop right there, but these guys somehow landed on Later With Jools Holland. Well, I can't say somehow. They are Lou Reed and Metallica. Still, I'm pretty surprised they're playing this stuff live, but it enhances the frenzy, doesn't it? I've made no [...]

Watch: Lou Reed and Metallica – "Iced Honey" and "White Light/White Heat" (live on Jools Holland)

Watch: Lou Reed and Metallica – "Iced Honey" and "White Light/White Heat" (live on Jools Holland) Lou Reed and Metallica played Later... with Jools Holland today in support of their recent collaborative album Lulu . They played Lulu track "Iced Honey" and, more surprisingly, The Velvet Underground's "White Light/White Heat." And, honestly, who really cares if they make an album together that no one really likes, but now they are trashing classic Velvet's songs. Then again, I guess they are Mr. Reed's to trash if he wants to. Check out the clips below.
