There is plague, said Tom Twp. ApLlewelyn in the organ loft reached for the bass stops. The white plague drifted through the church to the music of the savage voluntary. Parson and sinner stood beneath the reflections of the Holy Family, marking in each ginger halo the hair of blood. There was to one the voice of an arming God in the echo of each chord, and, to the other, the horse's ha. - "The Horse's Ha" by Dylan Thomas Things do seem to take place on [...]
Modest Mouse - "Autumn Beds" ; This Saturday the folks that brought us Record Store Day are bringing us a smaller Vinyl Saturday and one of the prized pieces is a 7" from Modest Mouse featuring this tune. I have to tell you folks I don't think it's worth getting up early and waiting on line to score this single. It's a weak, country tinged tune that really shows a reduced Modest Mouse. This is not the same band that brought us The Moon & Antarctica . Grade : [...]

Being the lone Dick stationed here in Chicago, it's only appropriate that I be the one to cover the latest album fronted by a duo that are both well revered veterans of the local scene. The primary masterminds behind Horse's Ha, James Elkington and Janet Beveridge Bean, have been an integral part of the Chicago music scene long before they became the blog darlings that they are now. Elkington has been both a solo artist and the frontman of The Zincs, while Bean is a member of Chicago's Eleventh Dream Day in addition to being one half of the country [...]
The Piss Choir [mp3] Asleep in a Waterfall [mp3] Memorably obscure names draw notice to The Horse's Ha , an all-Chicago, sixties throwback psych-folk-jazz collaboration conceived by James Elkington (The Zincs) and Janet Beveridge Bean ( Freakwater / Eleventh Dream Day ). Honestly, it was reading "Janet Bean of Freakwater" that impelled me to open the window and give a listen. As a whole, The Cathmawr Yards [...]

Dat album heet Of The Cathmawr Yards. Probeer dat maar 's in één keer foutloos uit te spreken. Behalve [...]
Janet Beveridge Bean surely must have earned a lifetime achievement award by now for coolest indie-rock name of all time. Bean is also the co-founder, with guitarist Rick Rizzo, of Chicago-based psychedelic art-rockers Eleventh Dream Day, as well as sharing lead-vocal duties with Catherine Irwin in twisted country-folk duo Freakwater. In June, Bean checks in [...]

The Cathmawr Yards' is the name of a fictitious graveyard in Wales and is the setting for [...]

The Zincs' James Elkington and Janet Beveridge Bean of Freakwater/Eleventh Dream Day formed the Horse's Ha in 2002, planning to perform standards in Chicago wine bars for cash. Of course, when creative people get together, they eventually create, hence the band's forthcoming debut, Of The Cathmawr Yards , a collection of 10 originals. On the stately, moon-obsessed Cathmawr they're backed by a number of Chicago stalwarts -- cellist Fred Lonberg Holm, bassist Nick Macri (Jeremy Enigk, Mark Eitzel) and drummer Charles Rumback (Leaves, L'Altra, Via Tania) -- who make the songs feel easy, fluid, and complex at [...]

The oddly-named The Horse's Ha is a cross-section of legendary Thrill Jockey and Chicago bands. Formed in 2002 as a side project for Freakwater and Eleventh Dream Day member Janet Beveridge Bean and James Elkington of The Zincs . Initially, they were going to focus on covers but over the next couple of years Elkington started writing songs specificically for them to perform as The Horse's Ha . The band is made up of Bean, Elkington, Nick Macri (also of the Zincs and a bunch of other bands) on bass, [...]
